Street Fighter is a franchise rich with weird and wonderful characters, packed with narrative twists and turns. There’s heroic tales of redemption, bitter feuds and rivalries, and even a giant green electric lad from Brazil. But the timeline is, frankly, an absolute mess.
Across 7 entries, the chronology of Capcom’s fighting game franchise has been continuously retconned and re-written into oblivion. Not only does the chronology jump around, with Street Fighters 4 and 5 taking place before Street Fighter 3 and Street Fighter 6, but each game has a multitude of upgrades and alternate versions, which effectively rewrite what has come before.

  • You completely skipped the part where Sagat actually beats Ryu and the satsui-no-hado actually takes over Ryu for a second. Sagat comes to help Ryu out of the floor. Ryu does a shoryuken out of complete anger because he was possessed and cuts and also burns Sagat on the chest.

  • PSA for Street Fighter IV: a lot of the story cutscenes from the original version of Street Fighter IV were cut out entirely from Ultra Street Fighter IV due to the dev team being dissatisfied with their quality. Unfortunately, this means that a lot of the more crucial story-driven cutscenes were replaced with more generic ones that have little to do with the main story. This means that if you play Ultra Street fighter IV you miss out on a lot of stuff from the original game including the endings which show Ryu reuniting with Gouken, Gouken fighting Akuma, and pretty much all the endings which depicts Delta Red, Shadaloo, and the other Street Fighters raiding S.I.N.'s complex. In order to see these cutscenes you either need to get the original version of the game or look them up on KZhead.

  • Still think the aesthetic of Alpha in particular Alpha 2 is still the best iteration of Street Fighter. Or it could just be nostalgia of my Sega Saturn days. At least 30th Anniversary gave us a perfect arcade port of Alpha 2.

  • The first street fighter game takes place in the late 80’s. Street Fighter third strike takes place in the late 90's Street Fighter 6 take place in the early 2000's.

  • No mention of G, his story, or the potential connection to Q. For a lot of people, G is Q before he had something happen to him, (Project G being a common logical theory.) Many of the same moves, and animations, and even a Q alternate costume.

  • Is that true? did Ryu Defeat Bison in the Alpha series? I thought it was Guile, Charlie, Sagat and Chun Li who brought him down, along with the help from a few others... Yeah, after looking back at the story, this video is inaccurate. I would venture to say that everything prior to SF5 and SF6 in this video, needs to be revisited.
