Honestly Wemby is the DPOY. He is the better defender in the league, I will not say it's not close, props to Rudy who have a wonderful season on the T-wolves, but let's be honest 2 sec, if wemby was on the T-wolves with Jaden McDaniels (incredible defender honestly), Ant-man, Naz reid, KAT and other members of Twolves players i could cite others (Kyle anderson, Kyke conley who is a better than average defender in the league), etc) , literraly all of them would be the 2nd best defender on the spurs btw, and by that same logic Wemby would be the sure DPOY. On the other hand, if Rudy was on this Bad (really bad) Spurs team which was obviously tanking and at the first half of the season actually literraly obstructing wemby's game/grow (exemple : The now famous Sochan PG experiments that lasted 30 games and contributed to their historical number of games lost in a row for the Spurs, Zach collins playing center while Wemby played PF which I can understand from a logical point of view because Pop probably wanted to figure out Wemby's game and which position he should be). Well I derailed, sorry about that, Rudy would not have the stats of Wemby and the Spurs would not be as impacted by his presence (in terms of defensive rating ) than with Wemby. If you look at the Timberwolves this season, when Rudy is out, the defensive rating of the Team dont drop that much. When Wemby is out of the game for the Spurs ? IT's literraly OPEN BAR (when wemby is in one of the best defense, when Wemby is out, it's one of the worst! Propos to Zach Collins for that btw even if all Spurs player should really improve their Def except Wemby). Guys, it's DPOY of DTOY ( Defensive Team of the Year)?. Also, Wemby can defend on the perimeter (at least better than Rudy, btw I'm not saying Rudy can't do it), he have more dissuasion than Gobert in the paint (even though i can accept for this argument that Gobert is also a dissuasive force in the paint but for me not as much as Wemby). So basdically what I wanted to say is HOW THE FUCK IS Gobert Dpoy when he is just on a way better Defensive Team . I repeat it, Gobert is an exceptional Defender and doesn't deserve the bashing he got, I watched Him since he got drafted in Utah because I'm French but comon guys it's getting ridiculous. I ask you a question (I will not answer so sorry in advance btw),just taking the defensive aspect of the 2 (Wemby and Gobert, ignore the offensive aspect of the Game), Who would you rather have in your team between the two of them ? Wemby or Gobert? PS : I can also add that personnaly even on defense when the game is close you can see that wemby is fucking clutch and not just offensively, but he is a clutch defender too, this monster is a menace, and it's not just its' 7'4 that is scary, it's his mindset. All the idiots who say (Shaq included btw), it's normal he is 7'4, then explain to me why the fuck not all of the guys the same height do that, of course it's a factor, but theire the brain to predict, reactivity, coordination of his huge body ( and he is working hard on those aspect, I would say even Harder because Wemby himlself has said that a special body require special training). So stop saying " he is 7'4, of course he should do that", then we should expect Bol Bol, Boban, Yao Ming, Tacko Fall, etc to do that if there is no Hypocrisy. Then lastly of of those who say : "Well it's okay he would win off the next DPOY the following years on his carrer". The correct answer to that statemeent is yes, it's true but are you guys sure he will not be injured, also if the spurs also sucks next year while Wemby is doing those same defensive performance, will Wemby will be robbed again of the DPOY award ( because off the record of his team being trash) ? No thsi statement, while I understand where it's coming, and while I do think if Wemby is not injured during his carred he will defintely won some DPOY, this should not be a valid Reason to ROBBING HIM THIS year of the DPOY AWARD. He is having an historic rookie Year also because of it's HISTORICAL DEFENSIVE YEAR. I apologize for this roman btw ^^

@korymcdonagh1269 I can tell that you're only watching the ball when you watch. Rudy does way more things that the average viewer can't see because they're only tracking the obvious action. It's essentially the same argument when ppl say Luka is a better offensive player than jokic. Most ppl are only good at tracking obvious things with their eyes. I challenge you to only track Rudy (and jokic for that matter) whether the ball is in their possession/vicinity or not. Then you'd see why their advanced metrics are better than the ppl that casual fans ride for. The same way jokic is a floor general with or without the ball is the same way that Rudy is a defensive floor general whether he's the primary or help defender. This is a skill that victor has yet to develop

His team was rated first in defense when he was on the floor and then dead last when off of it whereas with AD while he was a factor the Lakers defense didn’t fall off nearly as bad when he wasn’t on the floor. Wemby also managed to average the most blocks in the league this season on a minutes restriction. He should honestly have this award locked up the closest one to him is probably Gobert but I would make the same argument for him as I would with AD with the adding fact that he’s playing on the number 1 defensive team in the league.

It’s most likely true because this was leaked like almost a week ago and the finalists were only announced today and all of these players were finalists for these awards.

Look, I have my qualms about Rudy as a person too mates, but come on, he should be DPOY. Nothing against Wemby, he’s been awesome, and it’s not just a team defense award to be clear, but I just think Rudy’s been better purely from a defensive standpoint.

If he was a better defender he would’ve done better defensively. Bro played a lot more minutes and did considerably less. Wemby out did Rudy’s first DPOY stats within his first 42 games as a 19 year old. Let that sink in. Only player to have 10 blocks this year, leads in blocks, blocked the MVP 6 times in a game and knocked them out of the #1 seed right before playoffs. Wemby clear Rudy and it’s not even close. Twolves as a team defensively clears the Spurs but this isn’t defensive team of the year.
