Ever had a 10,000 calorie lunch? Yama is the heaviest sumo wrestler in the world and heaviest Japanese person ever. He challenged me to see if I could cook enough wagyu, sushi, mochi, and other foods for his lunch.

    • @@HulklingsBoyfriendThe one thing that sets Yama apart from a number of high ranking sumo I've been exposed to is how well he has adapted to the more "carefree" views of the USA while here. I know that comes from the time he has spent outside of Japan, but it still shows how much effort he has put in to show respect for his hosts be they individuals or nations.

    • Yeah, sumo wrestlers outside of Japan are kind and friendly... but in Japan... oof, that's a different story. Especially when it comes to relationships between higher ranked rikishi and lower ranked rikishi in the stable. Search for Koji Kitao and how he treated his "servants" who were lower ranked rikishi from his stable. He's the only Yokozuna who never won a tournament. And there's a reason why it happened. He was young and he was close to winning a couple of times before he was promoted to the highest rank... but when he was promoted, he started to feel pressure and he was treating his "servants" wrong and he even had an altercation with his stablemaster that ended in him being thrown out from sumo.

  • The best thing about Nick is that he feels joy in feeding others which is rare and his expressions are not fake. He truly depicts the fact that for a chef the satisfaction of the person eating is the most important. It wasn't a comedy or skit but the video was so fulfilling that I was all smiles. Nick was happy cooking and so was Yama when he was eating. I'm not a sumo wrestler or an actor but I hope ill be able to eat nick's full course meal one day.

  • 山さん is very popular here in JP and he is known for being kind and gentle besides the first impression of the giant scary dude. If you understand Japanese and the culture, you can pick up some feedback from Yama san that the translations aren’t capable of express. From the choice of words to the facial expressions you can see that he really liked all of the food but some truly impressed him. That comes from a person that’s used to have high quality food all the time. The colab was awesome and thanks to the good work Nick does those kinds of special moments are possible. Keep it up!

  • Couple tips from a sushi chef: Your rice won’t stick if you wipe the hangiri (wooden tub/barrel) with a wet cloth before use. Second tip is you don’t have to gently pour the rice vinegar mixture and fan it over the rice. You can just pour it over normally, it does the exact same thing and is much faster.

Pacific Salmon, the salmon near japan, is full of parasites, so a norwegian man, with Atlantic salmon, tries bringing it to japanese cuisine. In professional sumo in Japan you get a special name to use in the ring.. often these will have some word for "Mountain" in them. Yama is technically retired and had a ring name but he dropped all pretense with retirement and just decided to go with the statement of fact that hes just a damn mountain.
