I'm British and have owned three Discovery's and one Range Rover and can honestly say they have all been unreliable and poorly made. After spending a lot of of money on the Land Rovers I eventually and initially reluctantly moved my loyalty to the Land Cruiser. It's best move I've ever made. Trouble free reliable and comfy motoring. Land Cruisers are by far the superior vehicles.
Appreciate the honesty.
Bloody hell! A once Land Rover owner that isn't snobby and says they're unreliable when they are. Land Cruisers are far better vehicles and have stayed true to their image
Thank you for your honesty. If the biased fool in the video could be so honest, that would be a great thing!
Land cruiser 100 series are stronger and good suvs
In 2022, I still have a 25 year old, 100 series with 200k as the 3rd owner for 7 years, the past owners went on to buy newer Cruisers. Uber luxury, super smooth 4.2tdi & still a dream to drive, unlike the off roaders I've had. Yes, in-between I've tried to do better, but it all failed, X5, Merc G-WAGON, AUDI Q7 with expensive parts & electric headaches. So now keeping simple & straight forward, I now enjoying the KING CRUISER. Friends have the 2020 Range Rovers new ones, every 6 months, they spend more time in the repair garages thus making them, OFF THE ROAD. Only the Kia Sorento 2.2 td was near to the old bus, excellent 38mpg, but failed in comfy seats wife loves this. My grand total in up keep in 7 years, including services & ABS pump only after 25 years, has been £4500 in 60k. BGF Goodyear still have 8mm after 20k Mileage. Also Bio fuel at £1 compare to £2. A Dam bargain. LONG LIVE the KING Cruisers.
Price for range rover ten years later: $3000 Price for Landcruiser ten years later: $20000
+Designandrew so true brother i like your quoate
+Designandrew that s a lie, sold mine for 4k! take that depreciation! lots of headaches indeed, but lovely when it works fine. had a lexus too. never a problem, but somehow it just didnt have that feeling i got when i got in my RR. now i have defenders. no airbags, doesnt wanna start, uncomfortable. fogs up every time, wind blows through the cracks. makes scary noises but wouldnt change it for anything espacially now that they stopped making them and the $ is going up.
I agree I searched for a preown Lexus LX in my area from dealer and owner there's 6 and I notice Range Rover are everywhere for sale ... I wonder why ...
superspeeed land cruiser 7 1/2 thousand pound VX 4.7 V8 in my videos . 20,000 😂
That maybe so If your pocket is limited n reliability is vital, if not n driving pleasures are Important then I'll go for the range Rover, with my Huge funds I managed to buy a Honda Jazz for £1250 ultra reliable timing chain (no cam belt Great) but over sensitive breaks accelerator n over sensitive steering with little feel n even less self centering i be soon getting rid of it for another Ford or Toyota
in Africa we say: if you want to go to Safari you take Range Rover but when you like to return home you take Land Cruiser
right
lol well said
mjr102395 LOL you never owned one of these I bet. England make Aston Martin six months to make rolls Royce 12 hours to build a Toyota 🇬🇧😂
so what are you compering? Toyota's reliability to Rolls Royce price? I did not get your point.
Sergey Khochay British Engineering is 2nd to none. Sir Frank Whittle. Skunk works Lockheed Martin Brits💂☝
Sponsored by Land Rover.
Yes i believe so
Absolutely!! Such a fanboy of range rove: Ian
Range Rover and bulletproof don’t belong in the same sentence ever
That Range Rover is now a pile a rust in a scrap yard, the Land Cruiser is still going strong.
That is if it hasn't had an electrical fire yet.
Bingo resell goes to hell with Range Rover. Toyota is good to go.
I currently own the said range rover with 250k miles on the odometer, personally the vehicle is reliable enough that I can use it as a daily driver and the cost of ownership offset the monthly payments I would need to make on a new car.
to be fair, in the UK, more 80/105 series land cruisers are piles of rust than range rovers, although I would still have an old land cruiser anyday
You will be glad to know in that case the the Toyota lasted until 03 April 2008 which was its last MOT due Date according to DVLA :-) P.S. your reg isnt on the database??
"You go into the bush in a Land Rover, you come out of it in a Land Cruiser"
One stood the test of time the other is a Range Rover.
LAND ROVER are renowned for producing superb almost bulletproof 4x4 vehicles ,I literally laughed at that
So the landrcruiser is faster, better on fuel, pulls better, seats 7 (or 8) and most importantly won't break down. But somehow this ninny managed to pick the RR? How?
because british
Designandrew I'm British too. That doesn't mean I'm going to pick a poor car over a good one.
hung huge Well this reviewer did
lolraxjimmy I've never understood the point of a biased review. Does this guy think he's helping the company? Short term they may gain a few sales. Long term quality will drop, word gets around and you're screwed. Look at the US makers for proof.
Exactly. Reliability over looks any day thanks.
I have both of the last model Toyota Land Cruiser, and range rover autobiography but the Toyota is the best for me.

Amen
Land Cruiser doesn't have to be luxurious because it gets you from point A to Point B every time no matter the terrain so you don't ever need to live in it like the Range Rover in which you won't need a change of sheets when you are stranded in the desert or mountains. I'll take reliability every time.
West D the Land Cruiser is luxurious however anyways. The refresh made the interior very luxurious with lots of woot trim, soft rubber touch materials and even came with satellite navigation. It’s just as luxurious as the Rover, if not more.
DIAMLER I agree. Its a very nice interior, looks hard wearing and sturdy. I cant afford one yet, maybe in a few years :)
Let's be honest time has told the true story here
yep....the RR works great based on the shirt your wearing....take it outside the area u live in and see how 'comfy' it is....with my land cruiser being 20 years old and almost 600,000 km to it...i doubt u can find a range rover and that milage from that year except in a city or a museum.
bollocks
I louve The range rover. But no way I would choose RR. The Toyota is far better, u don't have electronics problems, all u have to change is the oil and some others staff
That’s because u don’t have electronic features at all
@@gto4609 lol so what , im from saudi and you know how the dessert here is and i know for a fact that RR offroading meth is total bullshit sure it can go offroad the first time mabye the second time but the third on is going to the mechanic or the dealer if its a new one and it going to cost you an arm and a leg to get fix , in the end it is a luxury SUV not an offroad one and that is fine choose what ever you like if you want offroading and reability take the LC and if you want comfort and luxury take the RR , but dont bullshit me about RR offroading except the old models where there was no extra gadgets to Break and the car was much simpler .
@@gto4609 so how come those Lexus cars with all those electronics never fail yet land rovers have been failing ever since they made them? GTFO
Land cruisers should change its name to Forever
Funny how he says the Japanese can't match the quality of the British interiors. Something tells me he wouldn't be saying the same thing now if he reviewed them now! The Toyota may look less "flash" inside but guaranteed to stand the test of time.
That's the best comment I came across ...you're right he won't even compare them both at 36k miles because the Range Rover will be at shop getting all the windows Regulator replaced and power seats all dead in the tightest position . I think he forgot that it's a videos and felt really stupid when he watch it again. Then he realized the Range Rover is dead ..
well around the time of this video, there were plenty of these range rovers and land cruisers around. Now there is hardly any of these cruisers, but plenty of p38 range rovers. probably down to the fact that land cruisers rust like mad
James Gates they still could not touch Range Rover's interiors. Not a chance.
@@missionron The Japanese have caught up now. Look at the overall quality from the LC500, RCF to other models. Stunning. Just took awhile.
toyota interiors are same like rovers AHAHAHAHAHAHAJAJAJAJH new land cruiser has same plastics like goddamm renault clio sad pahahah
i have the exact Toyota Landcruiser as this video and have had it for more than 8 years. the only servicing that needs to be done is oil change and 1 suspension change. everything still works perfectly as new and the ride on terribly bumpy roads (Worse than Russian roads) just makes it cruise over them like a floating cloud.
Is is still going? :)
over 200k kms and still working in perfect condition. even on euro 2 diesel this whole time
FederalNetwork excellent! ! Thanks for the update. It will likely go another 15 years!!!
You will happy with range rover for two days. 1st day you own it and a 2nd day you sold it. :0)
lol ....Let me just say the Range Rover value on the dollar speaks for itself ...cheap and crappy made SUV....This guy thinks hes fooling people ...all you have to do is go drive them both and you'll see that he's of full shit ..
@@slowazbmwkilla3073 hahahah full of SHIT is U
Lol Your right that’s how I felt
lol he makes fun of the quality plastics in the LC but he calls the creeky cheap plastics in the Rover "quality."
lol
That same land cruiser in the review is still worth $20,000. The Range Rover is expensive even if you get it for free!
My family had a 2002 Range Rover. It was a huge underpowered piece of shit. Just a vanity plate.
Oh and I still own and buy Landcruisers, but I only had 1 Range Rover, that was enough thanks but no thanks.
Reliability enters the chat. Range Rover left.
Land cruiser 100 and 80 series are built like tanks and last forever and also extremely reliable . Prices of the older series are still pricey

There is no one in this whole damn world that would call a Range Rover bulletproof..
The Range Rover had two engine types, if I'm not mistaken: the petrol V8 (4.0 or 4.6) and the tiny BMW 2.5 turbodiesel. The Amazon also had two engine types: the competitive 4.7 V8 and the mighty 4.2 Turbodiesel Intercooler. People who wan't to tow trailers around need a decent diesel engine. The Range Rover just doesn't have that. The 2.5 diesel could barely pull the car around, let alone the car + 3 tonne trailer. The Landcruiser had an egine up to the job. That's why the Amazon outselled the Range Rover by miles (except in loony Britain of course).

Have a friend with a 2.5 disco 2 and he pulls 3.5 tonne around the far north of Scotland regularly .. and his vehicle is well worn.
"THe reliability problems will hopefully at some point be solved" HAHA its 2018, they are still broken straight from factory, boycott land rover
Been building the RR for 50 years and still can’t get it right....🤣🤣🤣
2022 and still the same case. i’m sorry but they’ll never get it right. range rovers are simply garbage
!!GO THE LANDCRUSER!!!!😁
"Lots of grey plastic and leader everywere". 20 years later is still good as new.
At 33 years old I have had 14 cars, I wish I would have just bought a 98 or 99 Land Cruiser I still have it today LOL that's being is a beast and will run forever and it still looks beautiful too
Ha ha haaa... from the start he starts picking on the Landcruiser even though it is ultimately superior to the Range Rover in every way. What a ninny indeed.
I’ve got both (2002 Range Rover Vogue L322 TD6 and 2006 Toyota Land Cruiser LC3 D4D.)both with almost same mileage (c.160,000 miles.) Have to go with the general consensus here. Off road they are both top notch and not much at all between them. Toyota achieves similar results but more basic formula relies on driver involvement (diff lock, hi-lo ratio box) and RR has added touches like HDC. On road Toyota feels more nimble and responsive but mine is the SWB 3 door and the L322 is the biggest RR to date. Comfort, the RR ride is unique and air suspension feels fab, it wafts along. RR Driver goodies like auto multi adjustable seats are great, leather seats are sumptuous, with armrests. Long trips are tireless. Toyota adequate but more basic inside. Maintenance, the RR is 4 years older but even considering that, the roughly £13k I’ve spent over 9 years (gearbox, turbo, discs, handbrake assembly, front air suspension, brake pipe, bodywork and other sundry items) compared with around £4 - £5k on the Toyota (clutch, discs, handbrake assembly & sundry items) tells its own story. Bottom line, RR is an affair of the heart, it’s advantage is in its visual appeal and feel so you can’t put a value on that, if you love them enough like me then it’s worth it. But you pay a big annual premium for that. Toyota has its own visual appeal and does almost all the RR can do but without quite the same panache. But it really is bulletproof and has never left me stranded, even for the bigger jobs it gave me plenty of notice. RR left me stranded 4 times in the same period. If I had any sense I’d just stick with the Toyota but I need 2 trucks (one in UK and 1 in Europe!) and I stubbornly bloody love the Range Rover. Final thought, whichever you choose, use proper winter tyres in snow & ice. I had All Season tyres on the RR in the Alps and it basically nullified all the vehicles off road credentials, might as well have been in a Clio. After fitting Continental TS850 Winter Contact it is unstoppable in anything the Alps or Eastern Europe can throw at it.
in the end he said that he's going to be driving the Land Rover home tonight which is total BS . Everybody knows that Land rovers only make it home on the back of tow trucks.
Had 3 ... 1st was never on a truck. 2nd did end up on a truck due to incorrect water pump being ordered by a workshop and thus we couldn't drive her home. 3rd one owned for 4 years ... not been on a truck .. yet. The 2nd one had 160k miles when I bought it (very cheaply) and we actually owned it for a good 8 years. There have been problems along the way of 25 years.... specifically I can quote a new EAS pump (fitted myself and I am not a mechanic), minor air leaks in pipes EAS, a dodgy door latch mechanism on the latest car, dodgy ignition lead on the latest car .. got home with tape and replaced all leads with a new set. Pretty well sums up the non service related faults.
Well if he’s driving home in the RR let’s hope it isn’t to far @nd he has AA cover
Land cruisers over land rovers any day! British bias here too.
Toyota does the best cars in the world
👍🏻
If you could take the guts out if the land cruiser and whack then in the Range Rover then you'd have a winner. For me the Japanese cars just look dull, I'd rather have the unreliable Brit.
Range Rover “quality plastics” lol!! Haha
Land Cruiser all day every day, if you want to go into the outback take a land rover, if you want to make it back take a land cruiser.
Would love to own a Toyota Amazon one day.
LC one of the worlds greatest cars
wow cant wait for these cars to come out
The Range Rover is the fakest car on earth, i bought one , i'll always regret why i did it. However Toyota Land cruiser as any other Toyota , is the most reliable car on earth, easy to maintain, and last minimum 25 years. Congratulation to Toyota guys you're the best ever. Keep up making us proud of you!
All that Range Rover luxury will soon become a pain in the ass while you are waiting for your smartass buddy to arrive with his Toyota LandCruiser and bail you out of the breakdown. Toyota Land Cruiser every time.
some says that he is still on the side of the road trying to start the range rover.....
great one
Love my Range Rover Vogue, although it costs more like £120 to fill up now! Still, on a long run I get up to 25 mpg (doing around 65mph)... great vehicle and so comfortable.
@@Azureecosse Road tax is £285 for 12 months. I don't use it around town very often so fuel consumption not a factor for me. It's for occasional long trips. Still absolutely love the P38 and mine hasn't gone wrong yet! Can't imagine ever selling it.

There just so costly though, Theres more demand,Than supply unfortunately, I'd have one in heartbeat , but I'm looking at crazy££! And I'm talking 10-15 yrs.... Hope you get a guddun 👍
Even this reviewer admits that the Range Rover has some reliability issues. Yet, he says he is driving home with one. I assume he is just stupid. LoL.
+Weston Bernard or a good mechanic.
RR has serious reliability issue
Remember, reliability is usually fine for the first 60k miles, when the first buyer trades in anyways
I assume he must have good tow truck service
Tyler Swartz and thats where it becomes an even bigger waste of money. Id sooner just buy the Land Cruiser and keep it long term. No point trading in a perfectly good car that will last at least ten years.
I'd be happy with either of them
Range Rover... "Bursting into flames and bits falling off them" I lost it. 😂 Beautiful vehicle though. If I were to be 100% honest that's the urban SUV I wouldn't mind driving. I'm a Toyota/Lexus fan but I'll never use it to it's full potential. Besides the LC needs a serious engine update with technology like start/stop, variable cylinder deactivation and so forth. Once it has that the LC will be off road AND urban winner.
how is the plastic better on the RR, maybe the seats but dash seem ed the same.grey plastic
Yes its all about the range rovers interior. Because it better too be sitting in luxury at the side of the road whilst waiting for the tow truck to come.
both are excellent ....
IF YOU WANT TO TRAVEL SOMEWHERE DRIVE RANGE ROVER, BUT IF YOU WANT TO COME BACK DRIVE LAND CRUISER
Amazing truck
Their is only one beast, the "Land Cruiser"
I wonder if he took top of the line rover and compared basic LC 100,,,, Cause the LC 100's that are used by some of the contractors here are all with auto leveling rear end, Leather seat's and satnav systems. And the V6 diesels im told have an average 20-22 L/100km (10-12gal) when trying to be eco.

The UN has chosen the land cruiser consistently for years over the POC RR for good reasons. Lexus/Toyota are top of the food chain.
Good cars
At least he is honest about the unreliability. Clarkson always avoids talking about rover's infamous reliability.
I guess time hasn't really been kind to this review, huh?
If this was a review in any other country they would’ve preferred the land cruiser!
You want the Range Rover, but you should buy the Toyota.
Toyota survives until death
should have done the test with a 105 series with the 1fz-fte engine and front solid axel much better
These were never sold in the UK.
Range Rovers burst into flames..lol but drives better than the Toyota? What? wait What? Bursts into F'n Flames ... yes he said he'll drive one home tonight! ♨
I have owned 7 P38 Range Rovers, they are the best in all situations. The reliability issue is due to drivers not reading the entire manual before driving it. It has components that makes it work like a tractor and if you don't know how to operate them, you are likely to strand yourself. You have to tell a mechanic of the settings and where not to Jack the vehicle, but, they argue and cost you a lot of money. Going in and out of low range is very simple, but, people don't read the manual and continue to make it a design problem. If you do it right, they are never damaged, but, do it wrong one time and you are stuck. The first one I bought is still running and has over 350,000 miles on the same everything except brake rotors and pads.
Joseph Issa what about the newer models?
The Valor is pretty good, if you can afford it. But, off road capabilities is what I am not sure of.
Joseph Issa I had a 2008 L322 range supercharged and it kept having electrical issues, transmission issues and suspension failing suddenly whilst driving. So many problems. Why did you think so?
@@kzz8971 What transmission issues were you having. Land rover shares transmission with Benz, Volvo, Jaguar, BMW and others so there's more to the story. Electrical issues? Compared to other vehicles, land rover has far less electrical issues. I never changed a switch in all the land Rovers I had. My BMW headlight switch goes out every year. Maybe you bought a flooded car.
Young upstart? Land Cruiser has been around since 1951. Hello. The Range Rover will do nothing but go down in value. The Land Cruiser is going up in value. Have a nice day.

now review the same cars again today
That would be a 3 minute video hahahaha
Both cars are way way bigger today. Humungus.
Now in 2023, that land cruiser still on the road but that land rover had scraped, or maybe the scrap had been melted
£50,000 for the Range Rover....Now you can buy it for £500! Can't find a Toyota Landcruiser for £ 500
Started off saying both are bullet proof then spent the rest of the range rover section blasting its reliability.
Biased because hes british.

+rscosworthfan moronic comment. British accent is correct.
no its not there is no such accent as british
Im avid fan of the Range Rover in general just avoid the V8 td6 vogue is the better option Toyota Land Cruiser had a fair share of good reliability better off as an automatic which is more comfortable
wtf what you talk about plastic is it brittle or what? its made to be clean fairly easily after offroading rather than the range rover that doll thing not surprise that the land cruiser is every where around the world
@ 5:01 "superb chairs" Sure. They're superb. With wear marks on them already. Totally.
land rover bulletprof? loool
And 25 years later, the rover is worthless and the LC has a tremendous resale…
I bet there's almost no Ranger Rover left of that year on Earth. However, there're plenty of those Land Cruiser around and their engines are just completing breaking in periods with 200K+ miles.
"Toyota as well as Land Rover are renowned for producing superb almost bulletproof 4x4 vehicles" . This statement is not accurate at all. Toyota's Land Cruiser is known for bulletproof reliability but the Land Rovers are certainly not. Range Rovers are known for being very unreliable.
HOPEFULLY YOU'LL BE DRIVING HOME - IF IT DOESNT BURST INTO FLAMES OR BREAK DOWN
Reliability and Durability? Not a word?
I have a 1998 Range Rover 4.6 HSE. I have owned it for nearly two years and in that time I have only had one minor breakdown (which was rectified in two minutes on the roadside). It still has it's original air suspension and everything still works on it. My previous 4x4 was a Toyota HiLux Surf and that thing was terrible. Ended up scrapping it.......
Nothing like land cruiser for sure ...
Range Rover used to be good, from 19998, to the future, is total carp, electronic problems, head gasket problems, roof problems, suspension problems, and the problems never ends.
Poor workmanship is what let the RR down, those who built them just didnt seem to care.
Kids, kids, kids! Stop the bickering... Both cars have been scrapped a long time ago.
