I learned how to walk into any hotel as a guest and walk confidently past receptionist to where the bathroom was. I learnt how to find hotel bathrooms by instinct. The only thing I used was some toilet paper, for which I was very grateful.

    • Using public toilets in a hotel is nothing underhand. I walked into the Plaza hotel in NYC to use the rest rooms - its no biggie. Hotels are open to the public because of their restaurants and are common meeting places for people. Anyone can go to a hotel bar and have a drink. Sneaking into someones room is a whole different thing.

  • The Irish detective was very smart and was a few steps ahead of Juan. Obviously Juan has a gift for stealing from the luxury hotels. Certainly he enjoyed doing that but Juan did not think further than to steal things and enjoy life a bit. This is so typical of criminals. Why not invest that money into something meaningful and legitimate? Instead they spend the money they stole and then have to go and steal some more and then they get caught.

    • You are right! Even when criminals have lots of money they go and commit another crime. They are addicted to the thrill of stealing. • That’s stupid. The hotel clerk doesn’t ask for identification for a key replacement? Duh

    @phillipsmom6252@phillipsmom6252 Жыл бұрын
    • Nope. . . and they still don't. If they recognize you from earlier, and you say you're terribly sorry to bother then but you've locked yourself out of your room, then they will give you a key. I've done this multiple times within the past couple of years (to get back into my own room, of course) It is a bit disconcerting how easy it is to get my key when the desk clerk isn't even the person who checked me in. Only one time was I asked for ID, and then she just gave me a key without ID anyway when I said "oh, I'm so happy you are doing your job well for my own protection. Unfortunately my ID is in my room that is locked" (which was true.)

      @7thlady@7thlady3 ай бұрын
    • They do ask for identification now. Last month I was just downstairs in a hotel for having breakfast. Just had my phone on me, was in casual clothes. I was escorted to my room by a guard to present my ID to him. He asked on the way to my room to describe my luggage or what he would see in my room. I told him, so he could verify at the open door it was as I told him. Then I took my purse and showed my ID. Later I thought it was clever from him to ask what was in my room. They must prepare their guards for guests who lie and run away or even attack the guards. Chamber maids don't open the rooms ever. This only works on movies.

In the early 90's a classmate at school and I once swapped plane tickets because we had changed when we needed to fly home and so we each wanted the other person's flight. I actually gave my own name instead of her name (which was on the ticket) when talking to the agent checking my bag. But, when the airline agent looked confused, I quickly corrected myself and carried on with checking my bag like nothing weird had happened, and then I went through security and onto the flight with no problems at all.

  • I worked in hospitality for over 10 yrs, in a variety of roles. The first thing I said following any request was usually "Sure" then immediately followed with what room are you staying in? And/or, may I have your name and rm number? That was the only way to really be personable with regulars and exclude those who have no business being there. As for gaining a key card - NEVER without conformation! The best approach would be a flattering "I havent had the pleasure of meeting you formerly until now. That can only be accomplished with a peek at an id. Sometimes i would have to insist that I require it for anyone, including the next person to ask for a key to the same room number as yours. Which, Im sure you would appreciate. BOTTOMLINE: NEVER GIVE OUT A ROOM KEY WITHOUT PERSONALLY CONFIRMING. A lot of the time people give the wrong number- usually of the room they stayed at the week before, or somewhere else!
