Lyrics
I wake up every morning
With my head up in a daze
I’m not sure if I should say this fuck’ I’ll say it anyway
Everybody tries to tell me that I’m going through a phase I don’t know if it’s a phase
I just wanna feel okay
I battle with depression but the question still remains is this post traumatic stressin’ or
Am I suppressing rage and my doctor tries to tell me that I’m going through a phase yea it’s not a fucking phase I just wanna feel okay
Okay yea I battle with this bullshit everyday
and it’s probably cause my demons simultaneously rage.
And it obliterates me
Disintegrates me
Annihilates me
Cause I’m about to break down
Searching for a way out
I’m a liar I’m a cheater I’m a non-believer
I’m a popular, popular monster
I break down falling into love now
With falling apart
I’m a popular popular monster
I think I’m going nowhere like a rat trapped in a maze
Every wall that I knock down is just a wall that I replace I’m in a race against myself I try to keep a steady pace
how the fuck will I escape if I never close my case?
Whoa.
Oh my god I keep on stressin’ every second
That I waste is another second sooner to a blessing’ I won’t take but my therapist will tell me that I’m going through a stage it’s not a fucking stage I just wanna feel okay
Okay motherfucker now you got my attention
I need to change a couple things cause something is missin’
and what if I were to lie?
Tell you everything is fine
Every single fucking day I get closer to the grave I am terrified
I fell asleep at the wheel again
Crashed my car just to feel again
It obliterates me
Disintegrates me
Annihilates me
Cause
I’m about to break down
Searching for a way out
I’m a liar I’m a cheater
I’m a non believer
I’m
A popular, popular monster
I break down falling into love now
With falling apart
I’m a popular, popular fucking
MONSTER
Here we go again motherfucker.
We’re sick and tired of wondering
Praying to a god that you don’t believe
We’re Searching for the truth in the lost and found
So the question I ask is
Where the fuck is your god now?

  • Most people think of depression as the deep sadness. They dont realize that there is a underlying rage about being helpless and feeling that nothing will every get better. This song exemplifies that rage. Edited: Damn I did not expect this comment to blow up. I appreciate you all taking time to understand what I took from this song. Depression is very real and sucks. If you are going through anything I hope you get through it. I hope you stay strong and beat it.

  • I literally "break down" every time his daughter grabs his shoulder at the end 😭 I have been through severe depression for the last 3 years, and how this video and song describes the struggle and at the end the only thing that seems to help him is his daughter, no child should feel the responsibility for a parents well being, but the truth is they so often save our lifes without even knowing it.! 😊

    @user-fx6qw7ys7z@user-fx6qw7ys7z3 ай бұрын
    • For me the daughter touching her father's shoulder symbolizes the connection to reality that we need when we're in a deep depression state. It sure helped me, yet at the same time when i was at my most vulnerable i felt guilty feeling empty even thinking about my wife and kids. This song helped me too, can't deny that. Hope you're doing better brother.

      @Jayknightfr@Jayknightfr3 ай бұрын
    • I agree. I've been going through some really bad depression these past few months with periods being really dark. My 6 year old son has been my anchor often bringing me back to the light. Even though I try so hard so he doesn't see me break down or sad, I believe he senses it because he had mentioned to me before bed on a really bad night that if I ever needed him I could hug him or if he was sleeping I could wake him up and he would make me feel better. Lo and behold, 2 nights later I had a panic attack and I nudged him to tell him I was feeling sad and he opened his eyes and said "I'm here, just hug me" and he fell back asleep. I don't want my son bearing the weight of my emotions but I hope he knows he's stopped me from falling off a metaphorical edge every time. & he's actually the one who starting listening to Falling in Reverse first with Zombified and then Voices in My Head and got me into it and surprised me that he knew the words to the songs. (He has varied tastes in music but he's been listening to rock as a baby before learning to fully walk and between that and Taylor Swift are his top music faves lol)

My point is that the rap thats on the radio today has no meaning to it like Cardi B or Megan the Stallion. Talking about shaking their ass and how wet their shit is. I love corey taylor and he is absoutely talented as well as ronnie is. They just have two different styles of "rap" if that makes sense. Both are talented in their own way. I can listen to the old school rap like Ice Cube. Doesn't mean I like it one bit but atleast it is better then what's on the radio today killing the future generations. Nowadays "artists" on the radio just add some beat to the computer and call it a day without knowing a thing about how to write music for an instrument or two. I played viola and piano in middle school and high school. Once I recover from my surgeries I want to take guitar lessons again. I'm not arguing with either of the commenters here because each has a valid point. Just stating what I think about the "rap" industry. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

Its hard enough dealing with your own shit your whole life, but when you have a kid all of the sudden you feel simultaneously more and less fucked up seeing yourself through their eyes. My mental health was exactly like the lyrics in this song. I was hanging by a thread and my kids and wife gave me a will to get through it. Therapist told me it was a stage and it was survivors guilt for losing friends and others. It’s an amazing roller coaster for me. I cry and get pumped at the same time. If I ever meet Ronnie I will thank him to making a masterpiece of a song.

Seeking help no matter if your on one end or another, Is the best thing anyone can do to deal. It might take a little while for me to get back to someone but always know. Your life is worth more than you think it is.. YOUR SO LUCKY to still be here, Things and circumstances change. Death is permanent. I attempted suicide once myself and I would never even think about trying that again. Mental Health is so important to keep up with. If you have no one to talk too, please reach out or even call the national suicide prevention line and just vent. That is always how its been realizing you always wanted to be happy like everyone else and it was all a dream . Everyone thinks someone is OK i was someone who would make it so my friends not kill themselves but i can't even not think it myself. I have a bare face of sadness actually no i really don't have emotion anymore. Neglect, rape, parents leaving, friends dying, friends leaving, have no one now, realizing i lost someone like my sister and after a month my parents were fine but its like the forgot, But who am i to say i don't know anything only i have been going trough a "phase" for only 8 years you know. Sometimes i wish i could just scream at someone " I'm Not Okay" at all but whose to say. But one day i don't want anyone to have grief when i end up taking my own life. I have committed a lot of sins in my life and i know its not good and i have tried god but he didn't listen because I'm still like this and still have issues but i try so hard but now I'm starting to feel weak, More than i did when it started , i don't were shorts or short sleeves anymore but who cares again I'm just another person and i cant blame my cat because they don't look like cat scratches and i eat less but when I'm hungry i don't eat, I loose my appetite, i stay up late, and people think i have a great life because i life in a big house but its not like that at all. I feel like a burden, a mistake, I was misplaced here, I have to hold my pillow tighter and tighter every single night, My demons are starting to work more and more. I have daddy issues, i don't have a mom, rape, neglect, abuse, suicidal, demons, not good enough, depression, anxiety,PTSD,ADD,ADHD,etc. But i take to much air from people like people tell me I'm not something to be dwelled on at all. but i feel like I'm on the edge of a cliff. I tried fitting in, and fix it but it doesn't work and it sucks. I'm not a fighter at all. But this world sucks a lot. I had a best friend but i can't talk to him anymore much so i don't have anyone. But who knows I'm just here ,a person, a gazelle getting ready to be eaten by a lion and really big one and i fought it out as long as i could. Until that lion pounced and grabbed my neck and i was dead . Body pale and eyes open, tears , and breathless. in reality no one killed me i killed myself but at least i won't be a burden, or a mistake, I will be burning in the depth of Hell alone but I'm just another person, thing, Wild Animal, But this is how it is oh well can't do much. But thank you for anyone who does care. Thank You. I'm Nothing, Always have been nothing. I know i am a mistake you don't have to tell me so much and I'm a burden yes we get it but when i die you cant grieve and you can't say it is selfish, I want to die how i want to, is that really so much to ask honestly because i want to die. I'm selfish, stupid, dumb, retarded, dead inside, ugly etc. But i tried so hard to fit in this world but who knows? well its easy to tel when you are ready to die they say you see a light but what if you don't. I wish i was a snake so when i shed i can look a little different. Everyone has there person but what if i don't. My life is a book so i have to end it, My skin is like paper that why i cut it, and my face is just a mask over me so why can't i hide it, And my heart is like a door so i can lock it if i want to. No one knows what one person go's trough at all but we all assume. i tried to stop myself from crying, one day i started crying so much i couldn't cry anymore and didn't sleep at all. Maybe one day someone will under stand but for now no one does, You have no friends, your family is ..., your ugly, your depressed, your jumpy in your own house, life sucks a lot. the majority vote is that i kill myself so maybe i should so many people said i should. Then if i die i can burn in peace at least, but if i stay i will suffer more and more, i tried carrying on, But why? why should i, I want at least 5 reasons why i should stay honestly, is it to much? i don't think so. I'm just exhausted ha doctors always tell me lets go back to your past it's what causes the present and the future, but what if i don't have a future. I have so much self hate and its annoying. I can't even say i love you to my family at all. But then again every says I'm fine so " I'm fine than" fake it till i don't make it or do who knows. • I found this song today browsing through Spotify, and I fell with love almost immediately, while some may argue the two half’s of the song are not cohesive I say that it serves the song wonders as it helps to encapsulate the chaos of a mental breakdown, also a fan of both Heavy Metal and Rap I say that both are masterfully done here, the rapping has great flow and rhymes and the screaming never gets tired and does a great work as it emphasizes important points to notice on the song. Now on a more personal note this song conveys the feelings and sensations taht come with starting to fall into depression, I’m starting to show many signs myself and I have to say the song encapsulates all my thoughts and feelings in such a personal way that makes me feel listened and acknowledged, the way everyone tells me it’s just a phase, the way I’m desperate to feel decently ok…it’s just so accurate and earnest its honestly wonderful. I dont care if people see this i just needed to express my thoughts on a song that quickly landed a really deserved spot on my Top 10 songs of all time

  • I feel like this song is a physical embodiment of how it feels to live with depression. At first you just talk about it. You try to express yourself with words only the people that are supposed to help you just tell you it’s a phase or you’re just going through a dark patch and it’ll be over soon. Then you start getting aggravated because it DOESNT stop. It keeps growing and growing and getting stronger and you are just completely drowning so you get a little louder, only no one around you helps. Everyone gives you the whole “god has a plan, he has a plan” and you can’t live with the fact that he could do this to you. Then you just snap. You break, you scream, you become the monster you believed you were the whole time, the one thing you were petrified of becoming and completely lose your shit (expressed by the physical change into the monster) and basically black out. When you come to, everything is ruined and you have no idea what you’ve just done and are horrified with yourself. This is so fucking powerful and will be something I’ll listen to religiously.

Music in which people express their anger and frustrations has always been somewhat soothing and cathartic for me. I don't have to rage or feel the need to after hearing someone else do it. I'm an old rock hippie chick that loves hard rock and most metal, heavy metal, death metal, thrash metal, alternative etc. Good screaming is always great! I'm glad I'm open minded and willing to listen to new stuff. I'm so glad that I didn't get stuck only liking music from my youthful years forever like most of my friends and family did. I do still love, and always will love, some songs from the 60s and 70s but I also love music from every decade since then.
