  • Diego Elias is my favourite squash player. His balance and economy of movement is wonderful to watch (especially for a tall fella) . And his calm demeanor and focus make him a strong contender for top 3.

    • @Morbulas El Shorbagi misjudged Elias' shot, he was expecting a volley and was moving towards the front of the court, meanwhile the ball was heading for the back corner. While there was interference because Elias stood his ground at the T, Shorbagi ran straight into him with no attempt to play the ball and was running in the wrong direction to retrieve it anyway, so No Let was the correct decision.

  • On the no let decision at 8:59 i really have to say its a hard decision. But i understand it tbh. I just paused and played the video several times and and i have to say: The moment elias gets into the shotline of elshorbagy the shot which could have been played by elshorbagy, would just have went into the side wall and then down on the floor. I mean i know shorbagy is capable of insane shots just created from wrist action, but this is for me from the swing he initiallly began not realistic, that he could play a ball like that. I think if you would consider just the line of the ball, elias was definetly in the way of possible shots which could have been played, but at that high pace you have to decide for a shot early. And elshorbagy decided and didnt played the shot. Sometimes i hope they would just give a let for this kind of decisions, because you can argue for both sides. And for the people, who say the ref should be fired: You guys should really consider, what you are demanding of people, who have difficult decisions like this to make. For me is this thinking, of "hey i am right, because i watched so many games and have never seen a worse decision like this before" etc is just an overestimation of your limited ways to analyze the situation. I am not saying they made the total right decision in this one, but seeing this from only one side is kind of a narrow minded point of view.

  • The Elshorbagy no let - It's fishing. He had room and time to play any shot he wanted. It's a no let. Yes let would have been fine too as the ref might not be sure whether Elshorbagy knew exactly where Elias was (safety), but he was caught fishing, simple as that. Since he's been top 4, Elshorbagy has had TONS of decisions go his way, just because of his name and ranking. He's an amazing squash player, but we need decisions like this (even if they look inconsistent) to stamp it out.

    • archie harris he wanted the rally to stop because of the marks on the floor after he dived. But you're not allowed to stop the rally if you're the person that dived and left the sweaty marks. It seems unfair because if the opponent was in trouble then e could just stop and ask for a let on safety grounds.

  • Why was it a no let at 8:55 ?

    @Tom-pk4gl@Tom-pk4gl5 жыл бұрын
    • Tom because he started to swing. Then stopped. If you initiate a swing then it's safe for the other played to assume you're going to hit it hence no reason to move out the way. Basically he was about to hit it (and could have easily) but then thought nah I'll see if I can get a free point.

  • Concerning the No-Let at @8:40 I have watched every single mens highlights matches in the history of this channel. Hundreds and hundreds of videos. I have never seen a situation like that with ElShorbagy and Elias being called as a no let. We have all seen this position MANY times, with the judges and commentators clearly saying the player is free to play the ball when he wants. I am saying this as objectively as possible. That call was simply absurd and ridiculous and the referee should be fired. To add to this, ElShorbagy has been on the bad side of referee calls in a previous tournament where the referee again is CLEARLY BIASED, and cost him the match. I am not sure if the referees are trying to prove a point, or dislike ElShorbagy, but this is refereeing is awful and has to stop. Just as a note, i am from Israel, and i have no bias to favor ElShorbagy over any other squash player. The refereeing in this point was bad, and it cost him the match.

    • Lol @ calling for the ref to be fired. Over react much? I agree with the ref btw, everyone knows what the policy is now about fishing for strokes, there was no other reason he waited to play it.

    • Ben Schroeder agree, not a fan of elshorbagy bits he’s been getting screwed by the refs lately

      @bouchdag99@bouchdag995 жыл бұрын
    • I actually think that Elias kept enough distance the whole time to warrant a no-let. Shorbagy has the right to play it when he wants yes, but he has to play it at an angle that will reach the front wall and Elias did not obstruct any such angle. We've seen so many situations like this that it's easy to ignore how clever Elias was with his positioning; I feel like he almost anticipated that Shorbagy would fish for the stroke. You can see in the shot from above: for Shorbagy to hit a dangerous shot he would have to play the ball parallel to the front wall, such that there is no chance it would go up. Very subtle and smart from Elias, glad the ref was not on auto pilot and noticed it too.
