WOW Momen got Makin numbers down like a BOSS. Congrats to Makin too what a performance during the competitions
never thought Elias had a chance in that game, honestly played amazingly especially facing the mental pressure.
Harry Pinches: You spoiled it for me...
Umar Khan sorry buddy, the comments are for saying what you think about the video! Don’t look at them until the end if you want to avoid spoilers
Diego Elias is my favourite squash player. His balance and economy of movement is wonderful to watch (especially for a tall fella) . And his calm demeanor and focus make him a strong contender for top 3.
I think Diego Elias plays elegantly as Shabana and has the racket skills from Willstrop. Probably he will be in top5 soon.
Didnt know El Shorbagy worked part time as a Fisherman. Good job ref.
I think you didn't watch the match or maybe never played squash before!
I know right!!! midway in a tough match he starts fishing 🐟🐟🐟
@@MohamedAhmed-vl2df ? It was a good call. No one wants to watch the players doing that, it's cheap.
@@QuasiELVIS What is the rule there? I hate that sort of thing. But I thought it the striking player's right to play the ball when and how he decides?
@Morbulas El Shorbagi misjudged Elias' shot, he was expecting a volley and was moving towards the front of the court, meanwhile the ball was heading for the back corner. While there was interference because Elias stood his ground at the T, Shorbagi ran straight into him with no attempt to play the ball and was running in the wrong direction to retrieve it anyway, so No Let was the correct decision.
Makin is basically top ten standard now. Top ranked British player (or will be soon)
I agree about Makin, but I thought the same way about Coll a couple of years a go and look what happened to him! Its like thats his peak and now that everyone know his style they prep for him and beat him
The crowd here was very biased - He had like no support
I love how much torso rotation Momen puts into his backhand drives. The amount of power he gets is incredible. I don't think there is another player on tour who can match him in this.
On the no let decision at 8:59 i really have to say its a hard decision. But i understand it tbh. I just paused and played the video several times and and i have to say: The moment elias gets into the shotline of elshorbagy the shot which could have been played by elshorbagy, would just have went into the side wall and then down on the floor. I mean i know shorbagy is capable of insane shots just created from wrist action, but this is for me from the swing he initiallly began not realistic, that he could play a ball like that. I think if you would consider just the line of the ball, elias was definetly in the way of possible shots which could have been played, but at that high pace you have to decide for a shot early. And elshorbagy decided and didnt played the shot. Sometimes i hope they would just give a let for this kind of decisions, because you can argue for both sides. And for the people, who say the ref should be fired: You guys should really consider, what you are demanding of people, who have difficult decisions like this to make. For me is this thinking, of "hey i am right, because i watched so many games and have never seen a worse decision like this before" etc is just an overestimation of your limited ways to analyze the situation. I am not saying they made the total right decision in this one, but seeing this from only one side is kind of a narrow minded point of view.
That Momen vs Makin game was 10/10
Congrats to Elias! Ha has tose very fine skills and intuitions that only a few have had like Jonathon Power, Willstrop, Ramy. They actually foretell a future that is very bright.
The Elshorbagy no let - It's fishing. He had room and time to play any shot he wanted. It's a no let. Yes let would have been fine too as the ref might not be sure whether Elshorbagy knew exactly where Elias was (safety), but he was caught fishing, simple as that. Since he's been top 4, Elshorbagy has had TONS of decisions go his way, just because of his name and ranking. He's an amazing squash player, but we need decisions like this (even if they look inconsistent) to stamp it out.
Congrats to Elias apart from the couple of controversial calls well deserved! Hope Mo get out of his rut soon
Que partidazo el de Elías!
excelente Diego, Diego, Diego,
so proud of Elias, he has given up so much to reach this point. :')
Well done Elias, awesome upset.
디에고 진짜 기대되는 유망주라고 생각함
That is Elias first massive win, I am a big fan of Egyptian squash, but like seeing the likes of Elias climbing up.
Elias, Wow!
except for gawad/farag match, the others were all top notch quality matches... amazing physical and mental strength, shame it's not in the Olympics ...
THANK YOU REF! Play the ball, Shorbagy!
Elias you did it
Good set of games. Imo Makin looks like a builder.
Fair enough, in my opinion you sound like an idiot.
Joel Makin me crazy
Waaow
Wow what a game between Elias and Elshorbagy. Another scalping of Elshorbagy I'm surprised he's any hair left
I don't know if Farag is hardcore enough to go by The Raptor. Does sound cool though. Personally I'd go with "Reed Richards" from Fantastic 4 because of that incredible reach, but that's just me.
@@cscoetzee Farag is simply 'the gentleman'

ARRIBA PERU BIEN DIEGO ELIAS
For whatever reason I find Rosner vs Cole a funny matchup. I don't often see them play against each other.
Bruh they just played each other just a month ago in china open ..
how did they call Gawad's shot out/"touched the red line" at the end of that game? It was nowhere close - look at the replay. Fixed!
Paderborn
The editing is horrible now, why are they showing only part of the featured rallies ??
Brilliant decision by the ref at @8:46, squash needs more decisions like that
Ed Lucas couldn't agree more. Could have easily just hit it but he decided he wanted a free point instead .
once again poor reffing consistency on the dive against lower ranked players, I love watching Rodriguez play but in the previous round he got lets on his own dive and has in the past (using as an example as it has occurred for other players). Refs need to decide which way to go.
"once you dive you have no rights!"
@@jj9749 thats the point I am making, however it is not applied all the time
10:54
@4:24!
Why did makin say how is that allowed at 9-10?
archie harris he wanted the rally to stop because of the marks on the floor after he dived. But you're not allowed to stop the rally if you're the person that dived and left the sweaty marks. It seems unfair because if the opponent was in trouble then e could just stop and ask for a let on safety grounds.
Benjamin Kerr makes sense, cheers for the input 👍
Where is the Super-Conceited Superman?
I normally skip the El Shorbagy games - SO glad I didn't this time! Great game, minus the stupid appeals...
Great game by Elias. "Bonkers in South America" Joey? Like saying "They'll be screaming for joy in Europe for Wilstrop". Mmmm, I don't think so.
Omg the baby-faced Puma beat the baby-faced Beast! wtf...
Why are the referees so bias against elshorbagy??
Why was it a no let at 8:55 ?
Tom because he started to swing. Then stopped. If you initiate a swing then it's safe for the other played to assume you're going to hit it hence no reason to move out the way. Basically he was about to hit it (and could have easily) but then thought nah I'll see if I can get a free point.
@@souLNostia Thanks for the answer!
I haven't felt this way since Trump won the presidency. I'm just kidding. Good on Elias for winning.
Concerning the No-Let at @8:40 I have watched every single mens highlights matches in the history of this channel. Hundreds and hundreds of videos. I have never seen a situation like that with ElShorbagy and Elias being called as a no let. We have all seen this position MANY times, with the judges and commentators clearly saying the player is free to play the ball when he wants. I am saying this as objectively as possible. That call was simply absurd and ridiculous and the referee should be fired. To add to this, ElShorbagy has been on the bad side of referee calls in a previous tournament where the referee again is CLEARLY BIASED, and cost him the match. I am not sure if the referees are trying to prove a point, or dislike ElShorbagy, but this is refereeing is awful and has to stop. Just as a note, i am from Israel, and i have no bias to favor ElShorbagy over any other squash player. The refereeing in this point was bad, and it cost him the match.
I agree. Also with the fact that he had bad calls against him in the previous tournament. PS: Diego Elias is my favourite squash player. His balance and economy of movement is wonderful to watch.
Lol @ calling for the ref to be fired. Over react much? I agree with the ref btw, everyone knows what the policy is now about fishing for strokes, there was no other reason he waited to play it.
Ben Schroeder agree, not a fan of elshorbagy bits he’s been getting screwed by the refs lately
I actually think that Elias kept enough distance the whole time to warrant a no-let. Shorbagy has the right to play it when he wants yes, but he has to play it at an angle that will reach the front wall and Elias did not obstruct any such angle. We've seen so many situations like this that it's easy to ignore how clever Elias was with his positioning; I feel like he almost anticipated that Shorbagy would fish for the stroke. You can see in the shot from above: for Shorbagy to hit a dangerous shot he would have to play the ball parallel to the front wall, such that there is no chance it would go up. Very subtle and smart from Elias, glad the ref was not on auto pilot and noticed it too.
@@M0odez Pathetic call Elias moves at the last minute Definitely a let Referee spoiling a good match
