In this animation tutorial I cover the "Swap" technique inside of Adobe Animate. This can be helpful for when you need to utilize multiple versions or variations of an object or part of a character during a scene. Using this technique I show step-by-step how to animate hands for a character.

  • very impressed the way you provide and converyed this instructions, because it makes it easier. I was confused with the symbol swap and frame picker, but now I know how to use it. Its actually way easier to use the frame picker overall, because I can create different object rigs and create different posed to select form frame picker inside the timeline inside the object of that rig. Which is amazing and keeps things organized. With the symbol, It makes it harder to organize since il have too many rigs and poses .

  • Subbed! Wow, this is great! A KZhead channel that covers what I’ve been trying to do for like a year, back then there wasn’t anyone like this to what I wanted which was flash puppet animation! One question I have that I’m a little unsure about is flash puppets picking up objects. I know you said in the beginning about props having different angles but the question I have is how do you get the character to come into contact with them, to holding them so they move accordingly with the arm movement? Please correct me if I’m right, is it using the parenting system to connect with the hand layer I guess for this to work? Hope you respond and again this is great stuff you’re doing! 😁

    • Well I ended up connecting the different body parts through parenting as I couldn't work it out. Then making sure all symbols are graphic not movie, I was able to choose the ones I needed through the frame picker. This may also work with the bone tool method however I hadn't figured out that my symbols were movie not graphic until I'd already swapped to parenting instead of bone. Have you guys checked your symbol types? I know that you can't swap full symbols part way through the animation when it's linked up through parenting/bone but you can definitely use the frame picker.
