This film had a far better story than what I could gather from the trailers. I think it will be known as one of the best Disney live actions that they have done.

    • @@mm4843 Here's the thing though. To me, the Disney remakes are getting boring because they're the same movie. Like, the same movie with very little added or at worse, things removed. (wth Mulan). Cinderella is definitely one of my tops.. but personally.. I think comparing Cruella to Cinderella is a little unfair. Cinderella is a remake that is still pretty much telling the same story, just expanded. Cruella on the other hand is a PREQUEL. They focused on Cruella before the events of 101 Dalmatians, and personally the nailed the storytelling. With Maleficent, she became a hero... somehow? Unlike the original. Cruella however, she remains a villain. While the credits scene will confusing some people, this can potentially show that Cruella is on her way to becoming the villain we know. The sequel just got to pull it off you know?

  • It was actually a lot of fun. Although she's not as evil as in the cartoon, which is a lot of people's complaint, that doesn't really mean she won't get there. In this movie, Cruella is still in her 20's or early 30's, and by the end of the movie, we can see that this persona has kinda taken over her, so in a few years, she could definitely turn into the evil puppy killer we all know. I think people are over-hating on this movie simply due to nostalgia. I will say however, it has atrocious cgi.

It's not like they flesh out what was there or explore the humanity of these villains. They make new heroic characters and give them the villain's name and aesthetic so they can continue to push new merch at a slightly older demographic. Then they face down these new monsters whilst the heroes of old story are idiots or passive observers. It's black and white as ever but with the roles switched around.

  • There's always that problem with soundtracks in movies I notice. Honestly the best way I've seen it used is in Shrek movies, where they have their own unique theme music but also incorporate pre-existing popular songs. When there's an emotional or important scene, they switch to their own Shrek theme, but if the scene is for fun they'll throw in a song that wasn't made for the movie. They did this so well that during Shrek II in "Holding Out for a Hero", they actually play the Shrek theme underneath the song which really pulls it all together.

Nowadays movies feel like people trying to make money & forward agendas rather than making art. Movies in the 80s,90s,00s had there issues, but at least most of those movies felt like they were created by people who grew up dreaming of the opportunity, nowadays people use cheap gimmicks like representation and equality to sell products instead of focusing on the quality. IMO movies/shows like Indiana Jones, STARWARS, Avatar TLA, Dragonball, The Wire, etc were all great because they were made by people who had a vision years before they had a opportunity.

    • @@a.nikolaev5666 yes but it technically isn’t a lie. in the mid credit scene cruelly delivers two puppies to both anita and roger named pongo and perdita respectively. these two dogs are the ones that give birth to the litter in the cartoon where it kicks off cruellas wish to skin them. my guess is that throughout the movie cruella and estella are like two different people in the same body so even in the scene where she implies she would skin the dogs for the coat, it’s cruella speaking but estella still hasn’t gotten to the point where she’s ‘100%’ cruella. so it’s only at the end of the film that since estella is ‘dead’ it’s 100% possible that cruella would skin puppies. the only thing holding her back throughout the movie was estella who still in comparison had some morals. so it’s not necessarily a myth it’s just that the movie hasn’t shown her in full cruella action

Also there already is a 101 Dalmatians movie. AND a sequel. • I really wasn't looking forward to this movie myself, but I saw this movie with my family for my birthday because well...it was the first movie watching in theaters for well over a year. Since the theaters shut down in March 2020. In fact I haven't seen a movie in the theater since Rise of Skywalker in December 2019. And when i heard theaters shutting down for the pandemic, I was like "This is it, this is how theaters die." So even though I really didn't get to necessarily pick my choice of movie, I was just SO very glad to see movie in theaters once more. If I had to choose which movie to see, I wanted to see Black Widow. But that doesn't come out until July. BTW I did end up liking Cruella. It was very well done. I think it was well casted and acted. Music was great. And the twist was perfect. (keeping that to myself for those who haven't seen it). If I had to grade Cruella, I give a B+
