  • It’s infuriating how many “basic” aspects of gameplay were non existent when this series came out.

    • Right? I'm an OG simmer myself and have been playing ever since Sims 1 and kind of fell out of it during Sims 3 cuz I just wasn't feeling it and then when Sims 4 first came out I was so unimpressed with what I saw I didn't want to even bother with it at all. It wasn't until early 2019 that I actually saw it had been updated enough that I got interested again and bought it. I'm very happy to see I managed to skip out on the game until they at least had basic gameplay mechanics they should've had all along.

    • I was just coming to comment this! I've always preferred the town progression in Sims 3 so never really got into Sims 4 until recently. Binge-watching the Bigwallet series for the first time after watching the Country Living LP and the number of things that never used to be part of the game blows my mind. Can't lock doors? No half-walls? Hello, ladders? Platforms? Where for art thou?

  • I KNOW THIS IS REALLY OLD BUT MY 20TH CENTURY ART PROFESSOR WENT OVER THE DIFFERENCE. Surrealism is based on dreams/unreality/dreamscapes, but this is still considered 'real' despite being crazy (idk how to explain it) and it kind of... has a source? Abstract also can have a source of roots, i guess, to what it is or means, but is completely taken in a whole different angle, different shapes and simplification or making it more complicated. You can have abstract realism (Picasso's nude paintings for example, he took real figures and made them abstract) and you can have abstract surrealism. So for these two paintings, her surrealism is probably of a dream she had, and the abstract painting is an abstract representation of a bird, simplified down into a single red sort of design while if flies through the stylized wind :> I HOPE THIS HELPED AND WASNT JUST A JUMBLE OF WORDS

  • Suggestion: Put in several two-wide walls and paint them white. Use these for paintings. It would be like 75,455% of all the galleries I was forced to go to growing up. Fills up the open space quite well, too. Abstracts are supposed to be an image that can represent something in particular without actually depicting it. That could in some instances be because it's impossible to depict it literally - like emotions or experiences. Surrealism I interpret to be a new dimension on top of the one we live in or mixing elements in our world that can't work in reality. Like, idk, blue leaves on a bird that's swimming through jelly. Think acid dream. Both aim to expand the boarders of our imagination and/or to relieve us from reality. That picture on the right, however, is just shit methinks :B

  • Making something "abstract" is overly simplifying and generalizing everything and removing all details from it. yet you still know what it is. You focus on fewer major characteristics ( like maintaining the color ), but generally, simplify everything else. So in the painting on the right, you can guess that it's clouds, it looks "windy", and you can clearly see the bird, even though birds aren't generally completely red and it has little details to it. Your brain just "completes" the image. Making something "surreal" is.. making it look like it's from a dream, let's put it that way. The term, literally means, "above reality". Single features of the painting might make sense and look realistic, but all in all, it just doesn't make sense, logically. Generally speaking, it might look somewhat realistic in terms of the way it's painted, but it still wouldn't make sense outside a dream ( or.. well.. when you're on drugs, maybe, haha ). The painting on the right doesn't quite look surrealistic to me ( then again, I didn't study art, it was just one of my major subjects on school ), but again: trees don't grow that way, do they? And they don't have hearts on them? It looks very fantasy-like, so yeah.. wouldn't call it surrealistic, but it goes into that direction. I could go a lot deeper into interpreting that painting, though, haha.

    @Minale__@Minale__9 жыл бұрын
    • It was realism not surrealism. Realism is your interpretation of something (so hers was of a tree) abstract is a different way of looking at something (the tree for example). Abstract could just be random shapes and colours put together or just a different interpretation if that makes sense.

  • The difference between surrealism and abstract is that in surrealism the figurative aspects of the work are depicted somewhat realistically although fantastically. In abstract the figurative parts of the work are often simplified until they are no more than shapes, colours or simple linear representations.

Also when your sim has a negative moodlet, they're given a wish (I think that's what they're called) in the same colour which usually helps to lower it. • surrealism- actual things drawn pretty realistically, but they don't make sense together or that scene wouldn't happen in real life. Even if the object depicted doesn't make sense, it's still clearly depicted. For example, there could be a painting of a room in which an apple takes up half of it. abstract- even though it conveys emotions or sometimes resembles things, abstract usually doesn't depict a scene and is sometimes shapes and colors, that when combined makes you feel a certain way. For example, a lot of blue and green wavy lines and circles would make you feel calm.

  • I did an entire week studying the difference between figurative and abstract, abstract is usually conveying emotion in colour, shape and line, usually not in the shape of a thing... figurative is usually showing something from real life, doesn't have to be realistic... also the sims producers probably didn't look up the difference between different art styles (who can blame them? I'm two years deep and it's pretty extensive stuff) edit: realism and figurative can be distinguished by realism is trying to recreate the image of something where as figurative is sorta like that but can be broken down into impressionism, romanticism ect.

  • Yo james, I'm an art student. Surrealism is usually realistic looking things in strange scenarios (like the pig painting) and abstract doesnt really have to look like anything. It can be shapes, lines, etc.

  • Surrealism depicts an actual scene, though may not make sense, while abstract conveys emotions through colours and shapes :)

  • Abstract = nonrepresentational (does not try to represent reality directly but perhaps in a symbolic or other way); surrealist = unrealistic as a whole, as if from a dream (about trying to show creative unconscious like when dreaming) E.g., a red swirl might be in an abstract painting and symbolize a bird, and a red bird depicted underwater might be in a surrealist painting.

What do you mean no locking doors?!? Where are all the other towns? 😂😂😂 Guess i’m spoiled with the latest versions.

  • James, you press backspace to move things into household inventory and you wouldn't have been able to anyway, she was using it. Abstract is shapes and things that you can imagine different things, like cloud gazing I see a frog and you see a heart. Surrealism is real life things, pears cows and monkeys but these things are doing the abnormal like a walking pear a flying cow and a monkey wearing your clothes. There's not a fine line between the 2 but there is a line between them

  • Surrealism is usually taking ordinary things and making them strange by manipulating them, adding colours, etc. I would describe is as "dream-like" Abstract usually doesn't have any define objects, usually shapes =, colours, patterns that can be interpreted in many ways

    @lixyororke@lixyororke9 жыл бұрын
  • Abstract: an abstracted painting is an interpretation of a subject matter that makes you think (i.e Georgia O'Keefe Jack-In-The-Pulpit) Surrealism is during the freudian era and its paintings that Express more dreamlike qualities and imagery because they painted under the belief that the subconscious was of a higher reality than the conscious mind (i.e Slavador Dali Persistence of Memory) I'm an interior design student but I took a semester of art history and appreciation and my finals and midterm were on painting movements and styles and mediums and it was a really amazing experience. I know I'm late on this comment but I finally have an answer to give you

  • It's an abstract painting because its a none-figurative painting. Its inspired by, what it looks to be a 'flying bird above the clouds' but taking out the finest details. It's a surrealism painting because of the use of colour and no tree exist like that in real life, at least none that I know of! Also, all art movement are related to each other and collides, one could argue that they are all expressive (Expressionism), so in a way you are right!!

  • Art 101: Surrealism is what Dali did, the subject of the painting reflects a dream like state where things don't make sense and uses lots of symbolism. Abstract derives from the school of thought that anything can be art, such as strange lines without any one form that some people consider to "not be art" or "look like little kids paintings".
