I called Crutchfield to purchase additional speakers for my Acura MDX. When I called they knew exactly who I was had no idea how they did that. I guess they knew the phone number and the gentleman said hello William period he went to their diagrams knew exactly what speaker locations I was Considering and recommended the best speaker that would actually fit not all do. It was the upper rear speakers. And all my dealings over the phone I have never met two gentlemen who knew exactly what they were doing and listened. Whatever Crutchfield is doing they are doing it right.
I can watch this ALL DAY, almost like therapy..... makes me wanna tear my car down immediately.....absolute legend this guy.

For anyone who doesn't want to wait several days ordering gasket and perfect cut to size foam circles online, I suggest going to an arts and crafts store like Hobby Lobby or Michaels, etc. as they will have both the flatter mat type stuff to put behind the bracket against the door as well as the thicker, vibration damping foam to put between the speaker and the bracket. Just make a cut out of what you need and it will work just as well.
I had a pack of leftover door insulation from a household project. I was thinking of using that.

@@produceguy77 don't think it did from my recollection, but the way you fit it around the speaker there's no real need for it once it's bolted in.

I was an installer for ten years and always took great pride in my installs and I see that you do too. Only bad part is I’ve always hated installing stuff for myself because I was never paid to do it 🤣🤣 even worse is having been an installer you hardly ever want to trust the work to anybody else! Lol but after following you for some time I could definitely trust you with my stuff… too bad I doubt you’re Las Vegas based 🤦🏻♂️

Dealers seem to be the worst. Took my '89 ranger on for a tuneup . Checked the air filter just before so I'd know if it really needed changing. It did. When I got it back , I checked again and they had changed the filter as expected. But they BROKE the plastic box where one of the corner mounts!!! I complained and they said "it was like that when you brought it in". I said it wasn't and just left aggravated with a broken air box, realizing it wasn't worth the time over a $40 plastic box. But I never let anyone else Change my air filter after that. I tell them don't even check it!
If you dont pay yourself, that is all your fault brother. There is no rule against writing yourself a MF check for your FLY ass handwork. Especially if you have a legit business. More people need to really need to grasp and understand that there is a seperation between person and venture . You go ahead and pay LUDEGUY SONIC LLC $2,000 for a custom sound install. Do it with Pride too, you deserve it.
tip: if there's a lot of screws from any thing, I use a flat piece of cardboard, cut it out to the shape of the project, (or write top if you need to, or some key mark) and simply push the screws into the cardboard in the same spot. The screws stay in place and sometimes can be reused for the opposite side easily.

I do this trick regularly and it works great!
You must have a ton of cardboard cutouts with screws if youre anything like me. I usually just toss em in a bottle as screws are always plenty and useful for tons of things
Fabricating the plates and boxes is my "brick wall" on your channel. It's what separates the amateurs from pros
Exactly that's a skill that takes a decent amount of time
Get a cheap router. And just do it. You will get better

Great video! I did almost all of this re-purposing mover's mats and packing materials. The only thing I didn't do is pad around the speaker openings. I will be doing that, using speaker brackets as my templates asap! Thank you!!!

Nicely done. Back when we only had crutch catalogs & Crazy Eddie, my order was late, so I fabricated door speaker spacers, (for Kenwood 6.5) from a little Tykes kids toy. & yes, I won. 🔊

2:18 The tray is a good idea. I make a small cardboard “model” of each panel, for example, in the shape of the door, then insert the screws in the correct spots in the cardboard.
He is crazy efficient & organized. I'd have loved working with him in a shop. Some of the slobs that I've worked with (👀eye roll). From only having & putting half the screws back in something to snapping clips off to, sheez, you name it. I watched one guy rest his elbow right in the brand new door speaker he was going to install while it was sitting in the seat as he leaned over to unscrew something 🤦🏻♂️ Lucky the speaker was completely destroyed or he might have just went ahead & installed it.🤷♂️

Those are the details that make a DIFFERENCE.
This is a good video for guidance on improving your vehicle’s sound system. All information given can that annoying parts vibration that can be heard. There are some tips that I have picked up over the years to add if I may. At 2:48 be prepared to have some clips breaking off during panel removal, especially on older vehicles or in cooler temperatures. It's a good idea to pre-order these door panel mounting clips and have them on hand when you replace your speakers. At 6:14 if you did not pick up or have access to speaker gasket tape, you can go to most any grocery, hardware or home improvement store and pick up a roll of foam weatherstrip. I also like to use a good duct tape like Gorilla tape to tape down any loose wiring or door cables, this will further reduce the annoying vibration that is heard on some installs Mark, as always you have a great video with some very useful tips and tricks. Thanks again!
Great information! Heading to Big box ho e improvement store for door weatherstripping. Should work perfectly around speakers. My first speaker install and starting with front door speakers.
FIRST Edit: Mark, Thank You for all the videos you do! I used to watch you all the time when I was doing installs at Best Buy. You helped my installs be a step above local competitors and create happy customers! Everything in this video between the tesa tape and the strip caulk, make this otherwise tough and scrapped together install, an awesome one! This is a perfect example of how a DIYer with a small budget, can do a little extra to get the most satisfaction out of their work!

Lots of good tips I'd never though about. Props. I have already ordered some speaker baffles , so I'll probably just move forward with those instead of lining the inside of the door. I'm assuming the effect is similar.

i always use a drill, put my hand between the speaker and the screw (messed up some MB Quarts one time), and use the slip clutch on the drill to make sure the speaker is going to be set evenly, as all screws will be the same torque... made sense to me to keep the speaker flat. lol.

I wish the place I work at gives for the extra time needed to make these subtle but important steps. They literally give only an hour to do both doors. Only enough time to mount the speaker, clean up the wiring and put the door panel on, no foam no or anything unless it’s a real simple speaker install, or I’m just too slow either way This is a beautiful install and I’m sure the customer really appreciates the effort and attention to detail.
Worked in an auto install shop years ago’ 100% get what u r saying sad truth is because ppl r cheap’ they buy $50 speakers and think they will sound good lol’ and then when u say okay it’s $100 to install they flake out’ sounds like u have passion and want to do it the best way possible’ sadly your company is trying to make $$$ if they have 2 hours that would cost customer double and while I agree with your way customers won’t pay extra :-(

Hey great video, I wish you could’ve shown how you wired the tweeters and the speaker itself to the factory harness and was there a crossover to protect the tweeter and the mid speaker.

I really appreciate your videos Mark. I'm closer to launching an audio company along with yester-years Iconic creator of Sensurround. Earthquake won for Best Sound early in his career. He and I are in the process of developing Hifi speakers that factor controlling molecules. With respect; I offer one critique towards this excellent video. Solid rule of thumb is always fasten your audio drivers using nuts and bolts. Cheers!
It's supposed to be a budget friendly install video not an over the top one. I believe he stated that in the video multiple times.
@@gerardobernardino1092Dollar store or corner store bolts and nuts are a perfectly sound budget friendly solution. Maintains the solid structural seal and it prevents your mounting screws from coming loose with the vibrations.
How in the world are you supposed to use nuts and bolts on blind installs? Speedi nuts are great, thats why the factory uses them, or rivets...just... not nuts
@@PhilipGerner-nr3ed Thanks for asking. I use double sided adhesive strips to hold the nuts on the inside of the door panel. (choose a bolt girth nearest the diameter of the factory speaker screws) Then Iine up the new speaker and tighten bolts from the outside.

Enjoyed the video and definitely appreciate the tips. The only question that comes to mind is why you installed a round 6.5" speaker to replace the factory 6x9" speaker. You did not mention why and I know that u can generally get better sound from the 6x9's. Please comment.

Beautiful work! This attention to detail is what separates any other joe from a real master. In addition, you dont only let us know how to do it. you backup every choice with experience. That is the detail im talking about. Its work like this that actually sets the market price. Unfortunately there are less experienced MF's that charge the same price while being completely unqualified because all they understand is that you plug white wire with white wire. You have my respect and my subscription. Thank you. Its one thing to hook up speakers to a wire and another to actually give a damn about the car, the loose wire vibrations, the open screw holes in non-custom adapters. Thats not above and beyond, its just that some people settle for less. Thats business! Its a shame they want to charge just as much tho. A MF thats clueless will charge you for 4+ hours of labor at $150+/hr while a Master will charge you for 1.5 hr of labor @ $180. Clueless - $600+ Master - $360 Ive been there. It has happened to me. Thats why my hispanic Raza has a saying. "Comprar barato sale Caro" or Cheap ends up costing more in the end. My issue is that you dont know what cheap is sometimes, at least not until you see a video like this with beautiful work.

Is it just as effective to use sound deadening material instead of foam between the speaker and the adapter and between the adapter and the mount?

The small things count And as I’ve learned they really add up the more technical your install becomes For example speaker gasket tape on the front of a tweeter.. perfect Wish you had a link for the thick gasketing tape you use

I make my own gaskets using double sided strong acrylic tape manufactured by LLPT. It's very dense, airtight and compressible. This stuff alone can bind large glass panels into a frame. At the same time removes cleanly for audio driver replacement situations.
I've had great luck using closed cell foam weather proofing strip from the hardware store designed for doors and windows. Much cheaper than the stuff labeled for speakers.

I’ve had my speaker wires corrode in side were you crimp the terminals on and cause problems with sound . Upon checking my ohms reading it was off bad . From that day on I always put die electrical grease on my wires after heat shrinking them also were they slide on ! Inside the door with window up when it rains water does leak around the window . Not a bunch but the holes on the bottom of the door are there to let that water out . I always make sure they are not stoped up and when sound deadening I make sure not to cover them or cause them not to be able to drain ! The small amount of water that does go through the door will cause dampness causing corrosion . The silicon die electrical grease don’t cost but 5$ . It’s worth it I had to change a complete wire from amp through door post in to door an yeah . Running higher watts than factory the wires had to be bigger . Everything looks lovely mark you do one heck of a good job . I’ve added the aluminum backed sound deader to those adapters just around the outside to stiffing them up . Great job man this a great vid for those who don’t make all there parts like you said . I’ve robbed those adapters out of junk cars and modified them with fiberglass mat before we could get the great things like we can now . After 20 some odd years it’s nice not to have to build or modify every step of the way . Thanks for the info on what the crutchfield has to offer on the info about removing the things to install after market goodies ! That’s was the hi light man that will come in very handy . It would be awesome if you did a video like that showing an install to an old car, which didn't have factory speakers at all, or were very, very much too small for any modern speaker!

Very nice job on your install.. I would also recommend and checking the depth of your speaker with your window so they don't hit also solder your connections so they don't vibrate loose.
Not a big fan of soldering . Seems like overkill especially for basic speaker wires, maybe on a 500 watt 12" subwoofer...maybe, but not a 75 watt coax. It's not something I do every day and it's a mess. IMHO, with the included adapter plugs which fit really tight, you should be fine. Consider that the OEM speaker used these same connectors and stayed engaged for 20+ years before I replaced the speakers. I'm good with that.

I love the video. But have used the speaker wire adapters on a lot of cars trucks and suv's and have had alot of problems with them not making good connections in the plug. Any ideal why they are not working good for me?
