No More Neutral Countries in Europe? NATO Expands Its 'Area of Trust'

4 neutral countries sent letters asking to expand military and intelligence cooperation with the NATO alliance. As the threat of Russian provocations and 'testing the nerve' of European armies is growing higher, cooperation is deepening between partners. And alliances are forged as the threat of war spreading to other regions of Europe is building up.

Putin is quite successful at making NATO even larger and stronger than ever, well done! 👍
Thanks to putin, my country Sweden has now joined. I noticed you asked why your statements are deleted. Try using your browser rather than the app. Sometimes my comments appear after a couple of minutes. You can switch between app and browser to see it your comment is there and remember to refresh
Add, Ukraine, Moldova, and, Georgia immediately! STOP Russian aggression!
Austria and Switzerland will never join NATO! In Austria 85% of people are pro Neutrality, Switzerland similar.
Speaking as an Irish citizen, I support this nearly as much as I support an EU army.
But you are definetly a minority voice...
@@eddastrohmayer251 Make that at least two voices then, an European army would be way more effective.
Sadly russia has a strong hold of the uneducated Irish and Brits as well. As a Swede living in your beautiful country, I support Ireland cooperating with other EU countries and NATO on protecting itself and democracy as a whole! Éire go Brách!
@@patrikwihlke4170 Swedes are definitely qualified to comment on that journey.
Stay strong and never give up 🇪🇺🇺🇦🏴🇺🇦🏴🇺🇦🇬🇧
When a serial killer lives in the neighborhood and everyone has to get an alarm system.
And, a gun!
😂 That's definitely true.
It's a nonsense story, Austria and Switzerland will never join NATO, 85% of Austrians are pro Neutrality, similar in Switzerland!
An alarm system is always good. But it is a nonsense story that Switzerland and Austria would shift away from Neutrality, 85% of Austrians are pro Neutrality, similar in Switzerland !
@@eddastrohmayer251 They are still neutral because they have no border with Russia. But a hybrid war can affect them heavily. Beside that some of these neutral states still benefit of friendly relation with Russia for some reason.
Slava ukraina 💛 💙 ✌ 💯
Europe will answer the call, theres fighting that will involve us all...🇺🇲🤝🇺🇦
Oh no, Europeans don't want an escalation of Ukrainian war. Americans seek another place for your wargames!
@@eddastrohmayer251 1) You should not speak for millions of people but only for yourself. 2) No one besides Putin wanted this war and everyone is trying to „hold back“ as good as possible and be patient with Russia. 3) Nr.2 is one of the reasons this war is happening at all and if world leaders would not be so hesitant and guided by self interests, the 2014 invasion would have been stopped within days by clearly signaling Putin to uphold international law and agreements. Speaking as one voice would nit have lead to where we are, but appeasing and self profiting once more left us all with such a mess. If you want to understand the whole picture with Russia, you need to read a lot of history, travel to Russia and live with Russians. It‘s bit helpful to analyze geopolitics based on our own understanding, morals and values. There is a reason why Russian history books, school books, TV programs and so on twist historical facts and events and why people are almost forced to take all of this as reality. Then also the cultural habit of not being able to acknowledge a defeat or to be wrong.
@@VINLAND_777 You need not to tell me what I have to "learn"! I know quite well Russian history, Russian people and geopolitics ! I respect your opinions but most of them are wrong. And I can speak for millions of people in Europe that they don't want the war to escalate to other countries for sure !!!
@@eddastrohmayer251 Well, if you really think you where chosen to speak for millions of people and end each sentence with an exclamation mark, then I know how much you are interested in having a fair and honest discussion. No, you can always only speak for yourself and as an adult you should have learned that in my opinion.
@@VINLAND_777 American/Europeans don't want a fight!! But we will if there are no options left we came from the old world!! 1776,1812,1846,1860 ,1917,1941.....🇺🇲🤝🇺🇦
'Neutral' countries won't be safe from Russian aggression. But safer and better protected within Nato.
85% of Austrian people think opposite ! The same in Switzerland.
@@eddastrohmayer251I am Swiss, can you please show me any recent official statistics about a representative polling regarding military defence alliances? Yes, I am also not supporting to become a NATO member, but then again it‘s only my own opinion and I haven‘t seen any such polls recently and the world changes. It‘s also somewhat unreflected if we always expect our neighbors to defend our country by defending theirs and not letting anyone getting to our borders. What if we would border Russia or any hostile country which would start to attack us? Would we ask for help from other European countries and still proclaim „nobody has to interfere, we are neutral“? Think about what happens if our neighbors do no care if anyone will be attacking us?
@@VINLAND_777 I really don't understand what your argument is. Austria and Switzerland regularly make polls of the opinion people have regarding neutrality vs. military alliances, and the results are always very clear for Neutrality. And that makes clear sense, bc no threat or war comes out of the blues. Not alliances, but only to live credible neutrality helps to become no target of war.
@@eddastrohmayer251 My argument is, that people from all sides always try to sell personal opinions, standpoints or ideological beliefs as historical facts. Yes, Switzerland is neutral and most people would want to stay neutral. But there was no referendum or polling about becoming a NATO member or such in recent years and listening carefully to my fellow countrymen shows a way more differentiated picture then your comment suggests. Again, please speak just for yourself and not for a whole country you don‘t live in or even your own and for sure not for a whole continent like you did in another post. This is simply not fair and honest and people from abroad will get a false picture if you „sell“ your opinions as historical facts. Thats all I meant.
Putin - "We are going to war with Ukraine due to NATO enlargement and encroachment on our borders" Finland and Sweden, two historically neutral countries, immediately apply to join NATO. Putin - "Everything is on time and is going according to plan, we have lost nothing. I remain a master strategist" 😂
RuZZia encircling Ukraine on three sides (cardinal points), but NATO, which still only borders RuZZia on one side, is a problem for the Kremlin tyrant. Double standards made by Putin.
Sure Russia is obsessed with its border security as they have 16 countries bordering them , keeping in mind the enormous surface of Russia.
@@user-ek9go3kf2w Nobody is a threat in Europe other than Russia.
@@user-ek9go3kf2wSince the end of WW2 and most nations coming together to create international laws and agreements which will prevent another useless war, nobody attacked or verbally threatened Russia but it was always the other way around if you study recent history.
@@user-ek9go3kf2w Russia is doing everything it can to be hated by its neighbors. You shouldn't do that if you want to have a good relationship with your neighbors.
As an Austrian, I'd like us to ditch neutrality but don't see it happening any time soon. Our neutrality is written into the constitution, that's very hard to change. But we will host a large military training maneuver where our army will train together with the Swiss army next spring. Something like that last happened ~20 years ago, so it's definitely out of the ordinary. Things are definitely shifting.
Nothing is shifting, 85% of Austrians are pro Neutrality! And Minister of Foreign Affairs recently said that Austria has not any thought to shift away from Neutrality. And that is very good so!
85% of Austrians are pro Neutrality and that is good so !
Nothing is shifting...
Sure, after Austria gave us Hitler in WW2 then you became neutral to keep the Russian spies and proxies on your territory . Very nice and convenient. Beside that for your weakness and economical dependence of Russia you tried to manipulate your neighboring countries to be more lenient towards Russia.
Austria will rewrite the constitution overnight when the Russians are on their border.
🫡 Slava Ukraina 🇺🇦 Slava i chest‘
I am weary of Swiss or Austrian military officers looking at sensitive information given their strong ties to Russia.
I think you mean, 'wary', not, 'weary', in your comment here! Regards, Brent Collins.
Switzerland will never join NATO - their neutrality is a holy, cultural artifact. Just ask any swiss person. But : thats OK, one or two countries probably "should" stay neutral i guess ... and switzerland is a prime candidate for that. We just need solid, big border against the invaders and it has already been established. Well done, everyone.
Okay, but let's not forget how "neutral" Switzerland and The Vatican, played both sides in WWII! That would NEVER be allowed with NATO and the EU, and rightly, so!!!
@@user-pp1yp2ig4j they arent really neutral now either... only profit
85% of Austrian people are pro Neutrality! Austrian Foreign Minister recently said that Austria has not any thought to shift away from Neutrality !
No longer since Russians showed interest annexing it.
Same for Austria !
Putin's greatest success!!!
What happened to Azerbaijanis? They were wishing to join NATO last year.
Countries which are in war, and Azerbaijan is not really in peace, cannot join NATO!
Austria needs to join NATO.
Austria is welcome!
I wish, but it's not going to happen anytime soon. "Everlasting neutrality" is in Austria's constitution since 1955 and therefore really hard to change. Would need a 2/3rds majority in parliament. And most people here have the lived experience that we directly bordered the iron curtain for almost 40 years as a small, neutral country and nobody invaded us. So, in most people's minds, neutrality is some sort of magic cloak that protects you. While joining NATO would cost money. And anything to do with the military is bad anyway, just like patriotism is taboo. Those are leftover feelings of guilt from WW2. So, joining a military alliance? OMG, never, what are you, some kind of barbaric warmonger who loves to kill people? It's stupid and naive and lazy, but that's what the majority feels.
@@TheFeldhamster I am not patriotic but I support NATO because I believe in backing small weaker free nations in eastern Europe from invasion.
Romania also using British MTP? Or that American OCP or a own/unique camo? I only say it as it's kind of weird to see people using similar camo to Britain... we British are not great role models.
GOOD idea!! The ENTIRE area should become a.more cohesive entity, including an ARMY, NAVY & AIR FORCE!.....GO EUROPE!
Fortunately, NATO would be in charge! Lest we forget European history, WWI and WWII?
It's a nonsense Story. Austria and Switzerland will never join NATO bc their people stick to Neutrality! In Austria 85% are pro Neutrality, in Switzerland similar.
It's a very long way ahead... EU is discussing this for more than 10 years without any results.
It's just a nonsense story There was poll about NATO membership in Austria just 2 months ago . Support for NATO membership 14% Support for Ukraine joining EU 28% . So the chance of Austria joining NATO is zero even EU membership of Ukraine is a long way off
Why "poll' you referred to does not exist?
Off course this poll exist What is changing are the numbers and which entity is doing the polling And my main point Austria getting closer to NATO is a lie
Yes, right, 85% of Austrians are pro Neutrality! And Austrian Minister of Foreign Affairs recently said that Austria has not any thought of shifting away from Neutrality !
And also right: High scepticism in Austria as to new EU memberships (apart of Western Balkan countries)
@@eddastrohmayer251 No really, Austria is not neutral as they are trying to push other central and Eastern countries to be more closer to Russia.
Everybody has the right to feel threatened, except Russia. Russia should relax and trust NATO , because NATO is a defensive alliance. The fact that Iraq, Yugoslavia, Afghanistan did not attack any of the NATO members, well, let' s not talk about that right now, that is not important.
one step closer to thermonuclear war didnt fallout teach u anything???????????????????????
If Russia wants thermonuclear war, it will get it. After that, there will be no more Russia.
