    • Gordon had a bad childhood. His dad was an alcoholic who beat his mum. Gordon Ramsay plus his brother and 2 sisters were often placed in care. In the end the ambulance crew who took her to hospital called the police and a womans refuge. He also had his dreams of being a professional footballer shattered through an injury. So no, Gordon didn't have a good childhood. It makes it all the more interesting that he cares so much for people, and tries to help as much as possible, including where he introduced baking to a prison in brixham which is still going strong, selling the products to the general public and also gives the prisoners a recognised qualification in baking

Nobody makes better food than what your mother cooked for you as a child. I will never forget that my mother never opened cans or frozen meals, when I came home from school there was always soup and a second-course meal cooked by my mother. She was a working mother but always found time to cook for me and my brother, now I'm the one who mostly cooks :P

  • good on you Gordon, for never forgetting your roots and never looking down on on someone who has lesser means than you do nowadays. that kitchen of yours is an absolute DREAM of mine since I love cooking and baking, but, alas, it's 4 old-fashioned stoves and a sink for me atm. Every bit of preparing, I have to literally do on the stove. I still turn out 3-4 varieties of christmas cookies out each year, the sheets just have to rest on my bed while the next portion is going in, and I can make a full 3 course meal if asked to. I guess that's the real skill, making something out of nothing and make the best out of the tiniest of spaces. Thought me a lot. Still can't wait for a bigger kitchen so I can *really* spread my culinary wings Thanks again for these videos

I love Gordon's recipe for Shepherds Pie than the old way my Nanna & mother made it, I dislike carrots & peas being in the meat & enjoy them separately, of course some people can't eat peas but can eat beans, or broad beans. I always put red wine in my meat casseroles it gives it a great boost & makes it more flavoursome. All the other dishes look completely yum & I wouldn't change them. Wonderful video thoroughly enjoyed this.

  • awww this brings back so many good memories for me too, my Grandpa was Walsh, he came to South Africa after his dad got the black lung from the first world war. My Grandpa used to make those potato cakes he called them potato pan cakes, I loved his food. After he passed away I always wanted to know how he made them, and here you are making them, now I can finally make them myself, I tried a few times but never tasted like my grandpa's but I got a feeling the way you made them Gordon is going to be the way to go.
