  • As a brand new player, my biggest criticism of BG3 is that it is not new player friendly at all. The tips that show up aren't very telling and they don't always last long enough for me to even realize they're there and will disappear before I have a chance to actually read it because I'm so distracted looking at something in the world. I was hoping the game was going to have a great tutorial section that did a better job at holding my hand through the first part of the game. They really just throw you into the game and say "Figure it out" which is normally okay, but I've never played DnD so I don't understand any of the lingo with dice rolls and other stuff that's common amongst that community. I'm still enjoying the game, I just spend a lot of time trying to figure stuff out thats super basic and im still like "uhhh, I guess ill figure it out later"

    @ahetzel9054@ahetzel90549 ай бұрын
    • Very much agree there. The tutorial section doesn't do anything more than allow you to re-check the few pop-ups that were presented as you progress. I was really looking forward to just sitting there for like an hour or two soaking all the information it would have.. A lot of other RPGs have highly detailed tutorial sections, even for much more intuitive and much less complex games than this one. The lack of one here is the only letdown so far playing the game 😕

    • @@ilcollins871 To be honest, this video should be titled "A breakdown of the player stats and systems in Baldur's Gate 3" or something similar. Fextralife is great for raw info, but the written form they are so used to creating, does not exactly translate well into a video aimed at beginners who want to learn "How to Play" (in a way it's kind the equivalent of a teacher that simply reads the subject matter from the textbook out loud, rather than presenting the info in an engaging way to the students, if that makes any sense). This type of info is easier to digest in written form, and would/should be the kind of well detailed thing you would expect in the actual game's tutorial section. But, if you've never played these games, watching this might have you coming out just as or more overwhelmed than you came in. I'd highly suggest looking up Lucky Ghost's Complete Beginner's Guide here on YT, as it's written and presented in a much more accessible way, everything explained as you would progress naturally from the character creation screen into actual gameplay.

    • Same here and it seems to be the same with other comments. No offense to Felix, but he didn't do a great job explaining various complex mechanics. "If you have 10 strength, you just divide by 2 and add 3 and that's your modifier". Then he moved on as if that explained it. It wasn't a great tutorial unfortunately for a video specifically for new players.

It would be nice to explain exactly where you see things too, when you were talking about AC I had no idea what was going on as the screen shows many letters and numbers with different sections. I wouldn't call this a beginners guide, I'd say it's more like a refresh for players who have already played D&D

    • The thing is, we are so used to piss easy games that playing a game on "easy" just seems insulting. Most games " easy" setting just means story mode where you have to occasionally press a random button and watch the pretty pictures. In BG3 however, easy is probably the best experience for a new player who has no D&D or CRPG experience, because it really allows you to experiment with all the different classes and spells and so on, without too much punishment. So, just play the game on easy, and dont feel bad about it or something. Its your game, you payed for it, so its completely up to you how to play it as you choose and never let some elitist jerk with no life tell you otherwise.

    • This guide isn't really that good for beginners as it's more going over abilities rather than explain the core. It doesn't really go over combat or over spells etc my advice is to just play this game on balanced take your time and read through your attacks and actions and just learn it via trial and error you can always start another playthrough after finishing it where you try to optimize characters and get more in depth with the combat. If you are on ps5 I can always help you understand the basics a bit better by quickly hopping into a game with you.

      @vivian2556@vivian25563 ай бұрын
    • @@vivian2556 I get what you are saying, I know the feeling. However, like I said, you are in charge so you get to decide what is "properly". This is not some online competitive game where builds and min-maxing actually matters. The only thing that matters here is you having fun. So properly in this case simply means playing it in the most enjoyable way. I had the same issue with The Witcher 3. I thought the lore, stories, characters and of course the world were all amazing. However, I just didn't enjoy the combat that much. Especially all the crafting, oils and potions. My inventory was a mess with 100s of items I didn't even understand and yes, to a point it just became stressfull dealing with all that. So I said to myself... I just want to immerse myself in this world and all this crap is preventing me from doing that, so I just turned the difficulty down to normal and had a great experience after that. Its just a matter of knowing yourself and understanding what you really want out of something. And that's not only true for games of course.

    • I think they have made mobs too powerful in general, like say a gnoll for example, they have area effect projectiles, can fire three times a round, have grenades and a whole host of melee abilities and debuffs and even in act 1 you can be outnumbered 10-12 to 4 in some fights. You hit G and toggle off group mode so you can position some of your people individually in a good position before you trigger the encounter so you don't get all eviscerated in the first round. I am enjoying the challenge of some of the fights but I have a lot of experience with 5e and computer rpgs and strategy games and Larian's AI from the DOS series. I don't think mobs in general should have the extent of the range attacks that they do, the vast majority should be melee based, I have had to respec my characters to adjust to just how much ranged firepower the mobs have, it makes melee characters very weak.

    • If you care about optimization then you need to get used to save scumming, or constantly saving and reloading. Certain innocent dialogue can easily turn into a massive fight and strategies you try the first time around won’t always work. Make sure you take advantage of scouting, IE, using your WASD + EQ to move the camera around as you can scout ahead alot of the times. At first, it’s hard to know when something dangerous is coming up, but after you play the game for a while, you start to pick up on it…almost like a gut instinct, this helps you put your party in a better position.

    • That does seem like excessive resting. If you are playing and planning accordingly you should be able to do 5-6 battles per long rest. Unless it’s a boss. With the amount of skills and spells you shouldn’t need to refresh after every battle. I like it that way because it forces me to use other spells I have learned and not rely on 1-2 main spells and keep resting. Plus if you are smart you can use the arena against the enemy and get some very easy kills with almost no effort. Just takes planning and moving characters around.

You have to rest to refresh your spells, they are basically one time use. For me it makes it more interesting because I have to make use of everything I have to make it through. You also can’t get caught up in trying to unlock or do everything in one game. These aren’t designed that way. There will be things you just can’t do and will miss based on your class and skills. Don’t worry and just move on. Make a note and get it next time.

  • Ill be honest, the game mechanic is way more overwhelming than Div2 (absolutely loved that game). But ive only just gotten off that mindflayer ship so still in the early stages of the game, hopefully ill be able to pick things up quickly

    @scaphk9546@scaphk95469 ай бұрын
    • How is it so much more overwhelming? It’s largely the same, they just call things different names and you have more skills. There is also the bonus action mechanic, but it’s pretty easy to see what the bonus actions are. For me after playing divinity 2 I find this easy to get into. It’s also more fun solo for me than divinity was. I had a real hard time playing solo on divinity, I just couldn’t get very far. Part of that is also I restarted like 7 times because the person I was playing with had severe character ADD and wanted to keep trying different mods and class combinations. It was a nightmare. Never beat it but a great game. Give this one a chance, it’s really fun.

However, once I started to notice there wasn’t really much information I decided to start reading and researching things in game. This has made it a more of a fun experience because figuring out things is what I love to do! And it’s made it much more enjoyable for me.

  • I'm an outsider looking in. Total D&D novice, and from what I gather from this very well done beginner guide is all of the concepts and mechanics from BG3 are relatively straightforward and simple enough ... But the problem for ppl like myself is that the vast number of simple things thrown at us are simply overwhelming. And this is what makes the game seem more challenging that it probably should. So if the game has a great tutorial system than there's hope for me and othe rlike minded gamers that are interested in this game. If not, then I wish all of us the best of luck and hope you enjoy the 2 hour demo
