Manipur | "Pained; Anger In My Heart," Says Former DG of Assam Rifles over 40 MLAs Letter & FIR
Assam Rifles' deployment in Manipur has led to a controversy as MLAs on either side of the divide sent memoranda to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with a group of 40 Manipur MLAs {mostly Meiteis and those from the BJP) asking for the paramilitary force to be entirely replaced in the state and the other (Kukis) wanting it to stay.
The 40 MLAs and ministers had petitioned Modi for the Assam Rifles' 9th, 22nd and 37th battalions to be replaced wherever they are currently deployed with other "trustworthy central forces" alongside state forces.
This comes after the Manipur Police registered a criminal case against the Assam Rifles, the oldest paramilitary force in the country, for “obstruction of duty” and “criminal intimidation”.

For the same reason the Meitei people preferred to stay in the smaller valleys while the tribals are left to adapt to the Hills. 3. For the same reason that plain areas are more inhabitable than Hills all over the world we see plain areas with higher population than Hills. 4. The Meitei Kings either never bothered to control the Hills because they are content with the valleys or else they failed to control the Hills, either way they have no right to claim it today. 5. The 10 percent valleys hog up most of the development funds, in the last five years, of nearly Rs. 22,000 crores plan funds available, the hills received less that Rs. 500 crores. Percentage wise this would translate to over 97 percent for the valley and the remaining less than 3 percent for the hills. 6. After all this points If Meitei people truly believe that they are disadvantaged then why not both communities exchange their land holdings. You will not see Meitei people agreeing to it, why? Because their land holdings are not disadvantaged against them if not for their booming population explosion. They just want MORE land not justice.

If there were no armies, the toll of death in Imphal on May 3 and May 4 WOULD be very high. My family members and old grandma had to take shelter in the army camps in Imphal. The Meitei police were nowhere to be seen when people were slaughtered, churches were burned, homes were torched. Those 40 Meitei MLAs never spoke a word of empathy to the loss of Kuki lives in Imphal, be it Congress or BJP. Very communal and biased, they all were!! That's the situation in Manipur. In the initial time of this violence in Manipur Police couldn't do anything....Crime such as rape and killing could not control in Imphal, extreme violence such as women were paraded Naked, and couldn't do anything by police. There are some victims who were falsely accused by the soldiers in North East, but all are not same. Some Ambitious heartless officers (who only dream of promotion while in NE) may be responsible for atrocities on innocent like in 4th Dec' at oting village, Nagaland.
