    • My ex-husband said he didn't like spinach, when our children were small I wanted them to experience a variety of vegetable, so I use to remove the stems of spinach then add it to the lettuce for a salad. My ex-husband never knew there was spinach in his salad. I noticed when I didn't add the spinach, our children would say the salad wasn't as good.

Now what this means is he’s used to cooking many dishes at once and when you do that, for so long, you naturally, and instinctively check the other pans to make sure they’re not burning or. at what stage they’re cooking. ❤❤

  • Thank you for doing recipes I can eat on my diabetes plan. I haven't made creamed spinach in ages. My Dad creamed and buttered everything he cooked. He made creamed onions once and we stuck our noses up! Had never even tried them...lol. Dad went to the kitchen for something and by the time he got back the whole bowl was empty....yum. I'm 75 and love almost every vegetable including wild ones thanks to my dad, we didn't ever go hungry. He taught me to cook by watching him cooking for the family. Not so much on baking, but, biy could he cook. Neighbors would show him and my oldest sister how to do a recipe and next thing you know Dad was bringing home the ingredients to make what they showed him. Someone brought Dad some fancy canned brandied peaches...Dad tasted them and took them out to the dump! He knew that the tingly feel on his tongue meant they were spoiled. The neighbor rescued his peaches before we could dump them and clean his jars...lol. So funny when Dad tried to politely tell him they were spoiled.😮😁❤

  • That is some really fancy creamed spinach! Bravo! I make a basic creamed spinach with frozen spinach. I cook it, add salt and butter and when it is warm I add half-n-half and grate a lil nutmeg. There isn't any cheese in mine but this is quick and easy for a weeknight steak dinner. Another version is frozen peas with butter, half-n-half, and nutmeg. I love the story about your mother! I grew up poor, too. There were four girls and we rarely ate out. I didn't realize my mother didn't know how to make a roux! She hated making gravy and would shake water and flour in a jar when she made stew. She hated lumpy gravy! There were some days she would make Welsh Rarebit using Campbell's cheese soup warmed up and poured over toast. We never went hungry. But the good thing about being poor is I grew up drinking milk, water, and hot or cold tea and I never acquired a taste for drinking soda. We had well water filtered through coal seams in the area so it was sweet and clean and pure (near Black Diamond, Washington state). Black Diamond was named for the coal seams.

I made it in the little serving ceramic bowls like you did and they looked at it and said "Oh no, this is too much, we can't eat all this!!...." Once they tasted it the practically licked the plates clean. They both said they loved the Crunch the panko on top made, they thought it was a great balance of creaminess and the texture of the crunch. • I love your recollections of your mama. My mum (in the UK) always made delicious food. We always gathered at her house on a Saturday to be delighted with her food. Even up until she was in her eighties.

  • Oh my gosh this looks AMAZING! Thank you for being the best teacher and giving us all of these beautiful lessons for free! On a separate note, would you ever consider giving us a tour of your kitchen and how you organize it? Also, what cookware you would recommend to buy first for someone who is purchasing upgrading kitchen tools. I’m sure there are many like myself who cannot afford to buy all the best all at once. Thank you again and God bless you and your crew

  • Good afternoon Chef J-P,, we usually buy frozen creamed spinach!! Yes, I do. but it costs a fortune!! So now I will change my ways and do your recipe. I actually love spinach it compliments so many dishes especially steak. The frozen spinach I buy has small pieces of feta cheese mixed into the mixture. I have to admit it is lovely but the portions are very very small just enough to divide between 3 adults. Using your recipe you can serve more with a more generous portion, and it's home made so you know what you eat. Thank you for sharing and showing, your recipes are basic and so delicious. Many blessings.

  • I can truly appreciate your mom making do with whatever she had to feed her family. I was a very thrifty mother of two. Some of my children’s favorite meals were made from very simple ingredients. All made from scratch. There was no such thing as splurging on ready made food.

  • Still one of my favorite vegetables and ways to eat Spinach! Kids are not great Spinach enthusiasts but when we were kids, my mother didn't always make meat for dinner. Once in a while she would make Fried Potatoes with fabulously smoked slab bacon & onions, Eggs and Creamed Spinach as the vegetable. It was delicious and she made it like our wonderful Chef Jean-Pierre.
