  • What constitutes “really old stash” is obviously a matter of perspective. I got a good laugh out of your 6 year old stash as I am currently knitting with yarn I have owned for over 41 years and I have 2 other sweater quantities of yarn that were purchased in 1979 and 1981. All 3 were purchased either for something special or in a special location and didn’t not work for the first project so have been waiting for their correct design. One is finally on the needles and I have plans for one of the others.

It's lovely and has lots of history as being a daily uniform for Shetland woman. It's folded as a triangle and worn like a shawl and brought to the front, criss crosses over the chest and the tales are tied in the back. What a functional pieces of clothing!!!

  • The clamp on my swift broke ages ago. So I cut off the remaining structure and attached a metal table clamp/ one-hand clamp. Doesn't look chic, but works and it now fits to all kinds of table top thicknesses 😅 does that make sense? I have no idea how to explain that in English 😂 When traveling by plane I used to have sock projects with me. I always knit on metal needles . I put those into an umbrella, when it's in my hand bags. They never got noticed and during the flight I made do with wooden needles. Thank you for another wonderful episode! Already saw a pic of you in Paris. Have fun and stay safe!

  • You did such a great job on the handspun beautiful, and don't worry about it not being even... that is what makes it so interesting to work with. You are going to make some lovely woven fabrics. "I need simple things in my life" ..... I love that and I get you... same here. Your job must be so stressful, and I know for my self that after a day of trading (I trade financial markets).... all I want is just a simple knit that goes on and on in the simplest stitch. Then use the rest of the yarn to knit and endless tube for socks. Orange wrist warmers would look so great with your amazing sweater! Also, never an issue with my steel knitting needles (Chiaogoo) and I fly a lot. Have a great vacation!!!

  • Hi Inga! As I am watching your excellent episode, I am working away on a Twinkle Twinkle Baby blanket, which I have made before. It uses 2 skeins of malabrigo (or any) sock yarn and I was thinking it would be perfect for your mystery yarn. It is worked center out and I have used less than the amount called for to make a 32” square. A smaller blanket but perfect for a gift baby blanket. Perfect plane knitting as well! I have had no issues with metal needles flying in the US and to Europe! ❤

Her book "Yarn i tec ture" is one of the most valued of my "go to" references. Rachel Smith, of Wool 'n Spinning Podcast, teaches for the school of Sweet Georgia. She is and excellent spinner and I would expect excellent teacher. Here are some Podcasters who do earmark tutorials in addition to their more chattier Podcasts....J.K. fiber arts, The Soulful Spinner, Rachel (above), Jillian Eves. Good luck and have fun digging your fingers into those fleeces:)

  • This is crazy but a few days ago I also went deep stash diving and pulled the same yarn out for a tank top I'm knitting. It is also malabrigo, but I don't think it's the same weight/ fiber content... either way, it's in colorway 999 Paprika. My yarn is Mechita and 100% Superwash Merino in fingering weight.

  • You are so right about spinning videos! I am learning to spin too and I just need a simple video of a serious person showing me how to move my hands to get that fiber onto the bobbin without it being a twisty mess. I don’t need a tour of the wheel or a bunch of giddy chatting- which all spinning videos seem to have. I just need some direction of what the heck to do 😂. Maybe I will make a video if I ever figure out how to do it!

  • Your first spinning turned out very nice, as for not knowing what the wool is, I have made that mistake before, but have found that when I bought the wool, at least from some on-line shops, they list the name of the wool, which has allowed me to identify what breed sheep it was I spun from, perhaps this might help you too. Have a wonderful vacation. As a side note, have you seen any of JillianEve's spinning videos yet, she has many that you might find helpful with your spinning.

  • No problem flying in the US buuuut I had my Clover crochet hook confiscated leaving Mexico. I put my needles in my check luggage because they don't allow knitting needles. Nothing online about crochet hooks

  • Hi Inga, I have slowly started down the spinning rabbit hole….have you watched Soulful Spinning? Sarah from Fibertrek here in Maine is another good source. You are a huge inspiration, thank you for sharing all you beautiful projects

  • I’ve had good luck using silicone needle tip covers/protectors getting knitting needles through airport security! It hides the pointy bits from visual inspections from security officers and they haven’t noticed them yet

  • I've definitely heard that knitting needles are 100% not allowed in French airports (so I haven't risked it) but I'm curious to see how it went for you! Have taken them to Denmark/Sweden/the US without any issue though. Have a lovely trip, hope you love Paris ❤
