  • Countries kept trying to make the tank autocannon work (AMX-30, MBT-70). Because as you said, on paper it's a great idea. But I heard it said somewhere "any target heavy enough to require the firepower of the autocannon over the co-ax MG, the crew are just going to shoot the main gun at anyway".

    • Yeah, maybe with active defences we will see canon come back.

  • A few things I've heard: The centurion was type classified as a heavy cruiser tank, its replacement the FV201 (A45) (Better known as the universal tank) never came to fruition and the Centurion fleet ultimately replaced the Sherman fleet in the post war down scaling, however world war two vehicles such as Churchills, Comets, etc still were in use with BOAR forces until the adoption of the Chieftain tank. On a slightly related note, Britain only had the 105mm L7 in service less then six years and the gun hadn't been seen as a success. The 20mm on the first production Centurions was replaced with a rifle calibre MG, the later MK2 redesigned the mantlet to the familiar coax MG we're used to. Going to the Cromwell, the vehicles entered service with the 6pdr 57mm gun, however it was quickly noted its improved armour penetration didn't apply to longer ranges vs the 75 which replaced it, combined with a dramatically inferior anti infantry capability which was the primary combatant of the enemy.

  • South Africa I believe still uses the Centurion under the name of Olifant and I believe Israel still has some floating around in different roles

  • The Centurion 1 and 3 had the Meteor engine, so the engine deck was the same. The different deck is for the Israeli Sho't Kal's from Team Yankee - these were updated with a more powerful American diesel, so required a new rear deck. Just a few other points - according to wiki the 32pdr gun fired a 32pd AP round, 32pd being the weight of the shell and could also fire APDS that could pen 200mm of armour, it doesn't say at what range that was but it could out pen both the 17pdr and 20pdr APDS rounds. Everything I've read tells me that the 2pdr, 6pdr, 17pdr etc etc is the weight of the shell, not the bursting charge. Also I've not heard of bursting charges in anti tank ap rounds, I've only heard of them being solid rounds that use kinetic energy, bursting charges were a thing for naval ap rounds. The 128mm gun on the Maus was the same as the JagdTiger, so the stats should be the same, in the game

    • Hmm that is a really interesting point about the AP rounds. That was how it worked for HE rounds - the AP rounds is then a really tenuous connection, because it is the size of the equivalent HE round with a bursting charge of X

    • As a gunner your correct it’s the weight of the shell…

  • Interested to see the Panther 8.8 if it's a turret upgrade sprue or they are replace the 2 old sprue which due to their age, are a bit sub optimal.

    • I am wondering the same thing - it is an older kit.

    • @ModellingforAdvantage Reviews will be much shorter if there's no Hull mg for you and JB to despair over. 😍... Personally I'm more bothered by the side skirts with the mould marks on the outside, I think the good set only fit the resin version.

  • Is the plan to release unit cards so that we can use our existing collections? For the older vehicles I mean.

    @Subcomandante73@Subcomandante7310 күн бұрын
    • I assume there will be a card pack and an army book down the line. As of now, these kits contain a single formation option and all the associated cards, not just the ones they provide models for in this set.
