This is my fix for my broken Sony CyberShot. I was getting a black "Access" screen while the lens was moving in and out and finally after a few seconds it would say "Turn power off and on again". I tried initializing the settings but that did not work so I decided to just try some things. Basically if you can blow the debris out of the lens or shake it lose you can possibly fix your camera. If not then you still have a broken camera and you are not out anything.
I haven't used my cam for 9 months because the lens kept on coming in and out. Saw it in the shelf and tried this. Perfect! thanks!

tried a lot of things to avoid smacking it like suggested here. The gentle approach did not work. Smacked mine on my palm twice with power on and bingo! The lens retracted. This was on a dsc-w570. Thanks for the tip!

@striker1211. Hi striker, I have a Cyber-Shot HX10v and the Lens is stuck shut. The error message I get is, ''Turn Camera Off Then On Again'' I also have a Cyber-Shot HX50v, that whenever you opened up the Menu, the screen would giggle so much, you could never make any selections correctly. With that one I used ''Electronics Cleaner'' and sprayed around the Menu Wheel, while I pressed on the Wheel and Rotated it. After doing that twice, That fixed the problem with my HX50v & it works as it should, but the Stuck Lens on the HX10v has me stumped. I'm wondering if I can use the Cleaner on it. If it wasn't for the fact that these cameras are so easy to operate & also being a really great camera, I wouldn't bother with it but dang, the camera is over 13 years old & still runs for over $100-$120. With that said, I'd like to get it going so I at least I have something my grandson can use when he's over. He want's to learn about photography, so I want something for him to use until I give him one of the Canon EOS Rebel Cameras I own....

Hey thank you! somehow it worked for me. I dropped my sony dx9, hit right on the lens and then it's jammed. tried other video's pushing in suggestion and didn't work. I was determined to buy a used lens so I just tried whatever with it, and now it's coming out! but obviously my most front layer of lens is loose, but at least I can take pics with it again! thanks!

It worked again after 3 tries of turning it on, grabbing the lens housing and hanging on firmly while it beeped and read "access". I turned it off, held on to the lens and used a soft watercolor brush to sweep all around the lens especially where the telescoping joints are. Works now! Thanks!
Hello, I am Tomi from Croatia, i was reading those coments and one guy said that it has to vacum the lens in order to repair the constant open-close loops on camera and he was right i vacumed it firstly with medium vacum force while coninuously pressing on/off button, lots of tiny peaces of dust, even peaces leafs came out, and then it worked, anyway i think its only temporary solution as for complete clean you need to dissassembly the camera completely.... vacum cleaner is the camera saviour and in the future keep your camera in a box or small camera bag... my camera was sony cybershot W530...

mounted mine on my dirtbike handlebar and i think it was all that vibration that stuck the lens. didnt bang it but opened it up and tapped the lens part a little, assembled and works now.

I tried to put it on a camera stick but it fell of and one side got stuck into it. one side partially in and one side out.. the fear of mom finding it lead me to pushing the lens into the first position when its off. so now it shows lens error what to do? help me it had been hidden since like 1 year... help me

tried all of this. But the easiest thing that worked was to. Turn on camera, open up battery and remove, then the lens stays out. Then I took the vacuum cleaner nozzle and sucked out the areas around the lens. It worked! Yes, I got to it to work with no hitting. originally a slam made it work for just a bit,-but it didn't keep working. But I am not good at slamming a camera. For me I think it was just dust, but like all things there are different reasons they don't work. Had intermittent problems with focus problems, before the access issue arose. Don't follow my directions as the only thing in the world. I take no responsibility for what you do.

wolf spirit its an old camera, the sensors just could not do anything better than VGA 640x480 at 30 fps even though it is a 7.1mp sensor.
