3D Printed RC Planes are Cheaper and Better? BF-109 & MiG-15 90mm FLIGHT
My friend Christian 3D printed these RC Planes and set them up. First we flew the Messerschmitt B-109 which didn't end well, then we took up the MiG-15 90mm EDF and it flew amazing! I will definitly be 3D printing and flying my own RC Planes very soon so stay tuned !!

Amazing job on flying these ,guys
That MiG handled awesomely.
Now those are gorgeous!!
Excellent!! Thank you!
“Wow that sounds good”. Sweet 😊
thank you for sharing, i just started into 3d printing, love the video thnx 🛩
Thank you !! I’ll be exploring it soon myself making videos of the entire process. Have you made a plane yet ?
@@Jays_rcgarage not yet, but i did grab the cub today, started to print some parts👍
BF-109 needs to keep down flaps mixed with ailerons at sweet landings😊👍💪
That mig 15 looks sick!!!!
What printer do you use?
3D printing is definitely the way to go, yeah 3D printers can cost a few hundreds, but in the long run it's much cheaper. The same plane that costs $500 on Motion RC you could print and make for less than $150 with all of the components.
Re-watch 4:57 $30 airframe but $400 total and a weeks worth of printing time. PLUS $38 for the plans.
im pretty sure he's talking about the 109@@toolbaggers
hes talking about either one. the transmitters 90mm engine and ecu cost money@@i_dont_know_anymore223
If you get a printer that costs a few hundreds your hobby is going to be your 3d printer, not rc planes.
Do we need the engineering design / drawings otherwise how you are gonna print certain design, and pieces that fit together to form a plan. Anyone knows how it works?!
I built a few - couple of thin walled ones and some of the other larger ones. The durability is the issue. The planes flew quite well but never held up past 3-4 flights without some major structural issue showing related to the printing - just too may points of failure. At least for me, 3D printed planes aren't economical - I have hundreds of flights on some of my balsa and foam planes.
WHat model was the 109? The MiG's separation lines on the tail are wrong for mixing. They're completely separate like the F-86.
Developments in materials will only get better, 3D printed planes is the way to go. I maidened mine yesterday in less than perfect conditions fully expecting a crash due to the weight and brittleness (PLA) but it flew perfectly in every way.
What brand of PLA did you use, I have found them less than robust in even a small event.
Try Hatchbox white or black. Ive always had super robust, highly usable parts when printing hatchbox. Even the pigments used for different filament colors have slightly different melting points, and can cause poor layer adhesion, brittle prints, etc. Sometimes you'll get duds straight out of the box from some places. Hatchbox has been the most consistent across their range of colors among the many brands I've tried.
So a balsa or carbon plane would perform super duper perfectly?
@@vumba1331 2:13 listen to what happened to the pilot.
Awesome vid and planes! I am 3D printing my second plane. It's gonna open the door to a lot of awesome stuff, you an 3D print molds and carbon fibre wings. Question about the Mig - it looked like the tail was dragging - What was going on there?
Thanks for watching !! No tail wheel: the landing gear was off a Corsair I believe and the mains are a little short so the back end touches the floor on the MiG lol skeleton building with spare parts!
@@Jays_rcgarage That makes sense and hear you on scarcity of parts. At least you got it finished and flying!
Wow that mig I need to print this maybe in a smaller scale
Pretty damn dope! Might be looking into this, I've been eye balling the idea but since it's biblical on that sound I might be in lol. There's a viper in Poland, can't remember the guys name but OMG so damn biblical on the sound 😈😊👍🙌
😂😂😂😂😂
watch out with spektrum, aka "team failsafe"
Mate, what brand of EDF is in the Mig? The other builds I have seen sound like hair dryers, but this thing sounds awesome!
Just make sure you get a 12 blade it will souns good
I like the BF 109
Some of my planes have the SAFE option. These 2 planes didn’t !!
100% 3d print means no carbon or other material for spars and stringers skeleton??
I'm building a Triplane from WW1. It's just a kit from Guillows. Thee lazer cut wood is fantastic. Your printed aircraft are fantastic.
Awesome!! Is it a Fokker? I’m building some foam kits soon. Have a bunch on order! Not stepping into balsa building just yet!
@@Jays_rcgarage Yes it is the Fokker D1 and it is a blast to build. It's small so you have to think about which servos to use and obviously a small batter and motor. It's a good kit but it's no 3D printed aircraft. That's my next venture. Happy flying and keep up with the videos. They are fun to watch. Thanks!
@@Jays_rcgarage I should have also said that I am going to start my 1/350 ship of the Turpitz. I also have the same scale of the USS Enterprise Space Ship. There is also the Klingon Battle Cruiser. Well now you know why I'm divorced.
Laser not lazer Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation
@@toolbaggers It's a misspelling. Thank you for the correction. I trust that the meaning still came through? I just saw that I put 2 ee's in "The" as well. It's not like me to make so many mistakes while writing but it does happen from time to time. [Sorry]
In some of your airplanes, do you fly with safe?
Most gave the option! These 2 planes didn’t. I like to keep safe on a switch just Incase 😂
where do you get those?
Did you fly over/behind the flight line? or are you only allowed to fly around in circuits without doing anything fun until the battery runs out?
Ya bruh I fly wherever
How much are the engines controllers servos etc. and how do you connect it
All different prices. The website in description is where the plans are from and there’s more detailed info on his site. I will be doing 3D build soon on this channel and I’ll be able explain the whole process in videos
@@Jays_rcgarage cool thanks. I’m new and I don’t understand how to connect servos to batteries and whatnot
What printer and filament were used? Nice video and very nice planes...
Creality CR-10 V2 and Overture PLA
@@christianconlon8444 thanks, looks like I’m getting a new printer.
Anytime my dude! Good luck!
Luckily all the old Timers dont mind me using a novice foamy for my learning curve but I'm I'm building my first 3d printed airframes now. Having to bribe a buddy to actually run the print but soon I'll have a 3d prn of my own
The old timers are gonna have a stroke
Asking for something more than once makes you a beggar.
How big of a 3D printer do you need for the 109?
200mmx200mm
Are you going to expand models? If so is the f18 a possibility
I will be buying and flying models forever! I have the Eachine 50mm F-18 currently. Could get a bigger one in the near future
@Jays_rcgarage yeah I saw your video I grabbed the hobby king f16 50mm because they were almost gone but I do want that eachine f18 foing to get the hobby king one as well I'm still a beginner but they are something to build towards for me. I was wondering if your buddy was going to do a f18 3d print or if thats possible at all? And what printer he used?
@@aheis1313I’m going to get more info about the printer from him tomorrow .. meeting him at the field. I’ll keep you updated !
@@Jays_rcgarage awesome thank you!!!!
Yall want a kick ass setup for the F18? Ket the kit version, go with the xfly 4s motor, get at least a 40amp ESC and program it for NiCD battery or get a 6s compatible ecs, then run 5s lipo batts, I use 1300 tattu 100c lipos. 97mph if my Gyro wasn't having a tantrum, I am sure it would've hit 100. You're welcome 😈
1:07 Two mistakes in one sentence: 1) in description there is no link to 3D files, but to an e-shop with 3D files, 😉 2) it's not even a link, but raw text, so clicking on it does not do anything (link would transfer user to somewhere else), batch of operations "select/copy/paste" must be used instead. 😉 But this or that, nice flights. 👍👏🙂
He only added his personal affiliate links. 😎

Can a person put a nitro engine on a 3d printed plane?
You can do anything...once. But for how long?
Are you asking for a friend?
@toolbaggers I'm asking for me. I've got several extra nitro engines, and to be truthful, balsa planes are getting to pricey for me.
May I ask where you were flying?
Old run down airport. It was bought out so we’ll be losing it soon :/
l dont understand why the mig is dragging its tail on takeoff
Physics
Video of police question after question,.......let him fly please, or he will not be able to concentrate on the flight..🤫
wait why do they hate "foamies" there?
Ask him how much he wants for the mig 15 lol
there's people that get mad at you if you show up and fly a plane you got at the store? really?
Flying a circular pattern after a while has got to get boring right? It's like Nascar but nothing interesting happens.
It's exactly like Nascar, the only fun is watching the crashes.
Thats gotta suck flying in circles then getting yelled at for it
😂💯
Would be the last time I flew at that club. That is crazy and I would love to understand the rational. There was no one else in the air.
Are there actually fields that dont allow foamies? Wtf
Lol yeah, by me in manorville there is one.
Landing gear look a little weak...
fyi it looks like the size of the exit duct on the mig is less-than optimal. exit area Should be Equal to the Effective Swept Area of the impeller. googletranslate
Or a little less for higher efflux speed. yahootranslate
plastic doesnt work well in the cold! youre lucky if flew at all!

Oh no... they are still grumpy. So many times I've been told I'm cheating by 3D Printing a plane. I respond that they're cheating 'cause they didn't grow their own wood. Goofballs.
😂😂😂 That’s the best answer I have ever heard lol
The plastic covering film also comes out of an extruding machine.
I want to say 25 years ago I spent two months gluing together and cutting and sanding and coating and building a plane and then I went and bought a fancy four channel radio and at nitro motor and a prop and balance that prop and did all the things and bought all the pieces and the end of the summer I went to go fly my plane and 30 seconds later I had a radio to servos a nitro motor and some kindling😂
