Ali Banisadr's Impassioned Landscapes | Brilliant Ideas Ep. 24

2016 ж. 5 Мам.
454 001 Рет қаралды

Born in 1976 in Tehran, Ali Banisadr moved to America when he was a child. His works are influenced by his experiences as a refugee from the Iran-Iraq war and his approach to abstraction mixes memory, nostalgia and violence. He is best known for his large, lush, highly intricate paintings featuring fantastical landscapes reminiscent of stained glass. Ali experiences synaesthesia, a condition which shapes his perception of the world, and a dimension of his work.
His work can be seen in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Museum der Moderna in Salzburg, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles and the British Museum.

  • Not only the paintings, but the soul of this artist is interesting to me. Looking at his paintings, I see images and beings behind brush strokes. They encourage the mind to imagine, and what you imagine surprises you. Few of Mark Tobey's creations, also, have the same effect on the observer. When I first looked at Mark Tobey's drawing entitled the New Day, I was overwhelmed with the images and hidden stories that were revealing themselves. ...... paintings with tangible souls. Ali, you are a kindred spirit.

  • How interesting how his vision and hearing come together to produce such amazing art. "They are finished when they are quiet". I can't imagine. I loved listening to him talking about how he views what is around him. His work is beautiful and fascinating. I personally love his use of color, it seems almost necessary.

  • It’s amazing how much movement and spatial depth he creates in one painting. It kind of reminds me of looking at Avant-garde music scores as well.

  • Loved the very end when he talks about his use of color. I often feel like I shouldn't use too many colors because it puts people off, but that's what's so friggin' fantastic about art. Sometimes it's meant to make a certain type of person uncomfortable.

  • I have often wondered at those who can look at a work of art (of any kind) for a very long time. I will look, then look away, then look again, look away, feel the energy (or not) flowing out at me, then move on to the next. I think with his work I really could stand there and look and look and look and let it flow over me like music. I understand what he says when he talks about music coming from the art.

  • I found this very interesting. I’m mot so keen on his paintings but once I understood the background i could appreciate them. I liked the b&w drawings very much and resonated with the artist’s way of relating to his environment, the way he gathered aspects of it and added depth to his busy works by including them here and there.
