Mike Tyson vs David Tua - Dream Fight of the 1990's

2019 ж. 18 Қар.

The "Tyson Tua" fight never ended up coming to fruition and one that still stirs emotions from the bitter rivals a many years later.
They were close in height, reach, and weight.
These two are so similar and evenly matched, it's almost impossible to give one a decided advantage over the other when breaking down their fighting styles.

    • @@DeadManA8 Maybe, but I do think there's some validity to it! Douglas was fighting for something and had something to prove. Remember his Mom had just passed. He was very determined and focused! Tyson on the on hand wasn't training properly banging housekeepers, doing drugs (allegedly) just wasn't hungry and took the fight way to lightly, with a bunch of flunky yes men in his corner! I still say Douglas didn't beat that count and Tyson should of won that fight!

  • Would have been an awesome fight to see. So similar in style and size. Tyson would have been tipped to win though. Tua was a hard hitter as well as unstoppable and tyson didnt have the height advantage that Tua had the biggest problem facing. But Tyson was much more skilled in defense and attack giving him the edge. It is only after the jail time when Mike lost that top game edge would Tua have a better chance to win. Problem is, that's when he also faded. Two great fighters but Mike was better as their records showed.

    • The guy's his size avoided him because his chin was so strong they knew they were going to have to suffer through him lobbing bombs at them for 12 rounds and any one could means lights out. Tua's problem was he never really learned how to take on the tall heavyweights. Lewis took him to school by just hanging on the outside for twelve rounds taking points with his jab. This was the only way to beat Tua because he was impossible to knock out. Which is why the not so tall guys didn't want a piece of him. If he had a trainer who could teach him how to fight bigger guys he'd have been unstoppable.

He obviously didn't have the right backing to get himself into the title picture, and nobody with a belt was calling him out. I also read he threw his right shoulder out early in the Lewis fight and couldn't press as hard as he usually did.

    • It was so easy for Lewis to avoid Tua's big punches. All he did was sway back, using his superior height. And then used his superior reach to keep him away with the jab, until time to unleash a power punch. So easy. He beat Tyson the same way, and would have destroyed little Mike even easier had they fought in their prime. Lewis was big AND smart, unlike the big hacks little Mike faced earlier in his career.

During the 90s, I don’t see this fight being very competitive. I think after the first couple of rounds, Tyson would have faded quickly and probably would have been stopped around the 6th or 7th round. The Tyson of the 80s with the great head movement, speed, combination punching, and determination would have won this fight, but it would have been a great one.
