This is the all-new 2.0-litre Toyota Supra!
No, that’s not a typo. There’s a new 2-litre 4 cylinder Supra in town! So we just have one question: Why?!
Toyota’s official line is that it offers a cheaper entry point for people wanting to get their hands on a Supra, which it does. So those of you looking to get a brand new Supra for less than £50,000 will now be able to. However, rather than being graced with the 340hp & 500Nm the 3-litre offers you, you’ll have to make do with 258hp and 400Nm.
However, there’s one big factor you need to consider - it’s only £6,000 less than the 3-litre! So with that in mind, is it really worth it? Or should you just save up a little bit more and go for the 3-litre? Mat’s here to find out!

    • Supras are meant to be modified. Ppl can't mod the supra if it already has a big hp from the factory.

    • And make it even much lighter . At least there is an argument that a lighter car with a smaller engine gives you absolute agility in cornering and braking ability. But the mechanics will probably like the 4 cylinders due to more working room for them.

  • I think they did a fine job making this 4cyl version. I'm always a fan of variety, whether it's a 2.0L Supra or 2.3L EcoBoost Mustang. The more options buyers have, the better. Something for everyone!

  • I like it. You just dont need the big engine unless you go on a track, and 4.8 to 60 is nothing to scoff at.

  • It seems fairly good to drive and the missing weight helps there... so an after market exhaust could fix the sound issue .... but it still needs to be much cheaper before I'd consider it.

  • The 4cyl 2.0L is mostly to globalize the Supra. In countries where engine capacity based taxation is prominent, 3.0L entails in alot of tax compared to the 2.0.L. The pricing is also more reasonable in that manner.

    • Toyota in the past has produced 2 liter Supra cars but it tends to have the Celica or GT86 as a 2 liter car. I surprised they did not call the GT86 a Celica to keep with the previous tradition.

    • Not really, the 3.0 has a combined fuel cycle of 32mpg, the 2.0 has a combined cycle of 38mpg. Then there’s the reduce co2 emmisons that effect tax costs. Admittedly, mpg isn’t an exact science but the 2.0 offers much of the benefits of the 3.0 but will be significantly cheaper to run.

    • Don’t get too excited. I own the 2.0 and it’s a beloved keeper. I think most owners are going to hang on to their Supra’s long term. It’s really a lot of performance, style, and luxury for sub $50k

    • It will be close coz yaris has awd so it has a advantage from launch and low speeds where as supra 2.0L has a ZF transmission which shifts quick supra also has more torque and the hp is also underated so that would be no doubt interesting to watch

  • the 2L is also 300 pounds lighter over the front wheels - that's why the turn in felt snappier. the 2L is the best option for autocrossing

  • Part of the 100kg difference might come from the 3.0 having a ZF transmission rated for the higher torque. Beefier internals, etc.

  • thank you for the honest review! Ill have to do more research but It almost feels better to buy the cheaper 2.0L and modify its engine under the extra 6k for the 3.0L. I plan on investing in a 2.0L after college with enough hard work!

  • Agreed. Personally if you're in the market for the Supra, get the 3.0. However, how about dropping the 2.0 Supra and throwing its engine in the new BRZ/86? Sure, might add a bit more weight, but the 86/BRZ chassis has been touted for its handling. It would drive the price up a bit, but I believe if you're already spending near $30K for a BRZ/86, the Supra's 2.0 engine would be a perfect candidate.

  • I honestly like the 4cyl sound, reminds me of Golf R, with a good exhaust it wouldn't be bad. I mean sure it doesn't have the rich harmonics of the 6cyl, but still decent.

    • Golf R sounds like trash lol...best sounding 4cylinders right now probably belong to i30N and Focus ST. (I am talking about stock exhausts)

    • The golf 7 and 7.5 and 8 sound like mad garbage, but the MK6 sounds great. Esp. with a swapped exhaust and an ECU tune. One of my fav 4cyl sounds. From mk7 it went downhill. i30n is mad too, sounds awesome. Focus ST also sounds good.

  • Most importantly that engine can easily deliver 320. It’s a missed opportunity for the car, the A45s a great example of what can be achieved with 4 cylinders

  • 4,84 to 60 and 13,37 for a quarter mile. Good results based on horsepower & weight and more than enough to have fun. I own the 2.0 since September 2020. Great car in every respect. Sorry for my formulation. I'm from Germany. The ones who build the supra engine 😉

    • Germany shouldn't be building them though. I don't know why you act like that's a point of pride. The car is hated. As long as you like it though, that's what matters. I just think it's supremely underpowered.. even the 3 liter. Sure does look nice though.

Germans are a great people with a rich history and culture. I'm half German myself. All I'm saying is that these unreliable engines aren't really a point of pride. I'm jealous though, I'd still love to own one. Take good care of it!
