    • I live in Florida, and sandhill cranes are a common occurrence in the wild here. In fact, there exist special signs that warn drivers about sandhill crane crossing!

  • Hi you two! This reminds me of everyday after work. I get off at 3. I go outside and guess what I see? 3 Sandhill cranes. And one is a juvenile. I'm not sure of it's age. It doesn't have the adult coloring yet. They are giant! We have a big pond beside our building too. And they travel there everyday to eat in the grassy areas first. I always get so excited to see them! I so wish I could take a pic and share like you guys do with us. Maybe one day. ☺️

  • Cranes (family Gruidae) are one of only six extant families comprising the order Gruiformes, the others being Sarothuridae (Flufftails, Woodrails, and Forest Rails), Heliornithidae (Finfoots), Rallidae (Rails, Crakes, Sora, Gallinules, Nativehens, Swamphens, Moorhen, Watercock, and Coots), Psophiidae (Trumpeters), and Aramidae (Limpkin), while ardeids (collectively herons, egrets, and bitterns) are one of only three extant families of the order Ciconiiformes, the others being Ciconiidae (Storks) and Threskiornithidae (Ibises and Spoonbills).
