Sea level appears to be rising at a small 3mm per year. Atolls in the Pacific nations of the Marshall Islands and Kiribati, as well as the Maldives archipelago in the Indian Ocean, have risen up to 8 percent in size (Ford and Kench, 2020). 89% of the globe’s islands and 100% of large islands have stable or growing coasts (Duvat, 2019). Remember, all linear over many decades, or more than a century. Anyway, if you prefer satellite data NOAA's trend was +3.0mm/year Global Mean Sea Level (1993-2022), again linear last time I looked (but hey, it may have accelerated in the last month). NASA satellite data (1993-present) for Global Mean Sea Level shows a linear rise of 3.3mm per year. That's the same as two stacked penny coins. No acceleration, so no relationship to the exponential increase in CO2 in the atmosphere. It's going to be decades before even your big toe is submerged.

The concern is future acceleration. 3)A global average of 3 mm per year exists. 4)CO2 plays a role, and a lack of acceleration now doesn't negate the link. 5)Even gradual rise can have significant long-term consequences. Adaptation and mitigation are vital.
Most of those cities would have big problems if sea levels were to recede. Imagine all of them at what sea level was 6000 years ago .
Precisely! Sea and river levels have been rising since time immemorial: great cities were drowned and swallowed up, yet none of them had any of the man-made factors that are supposedly the catalyst for the "climate catastrophe" we are being terrorised with today. The Sahara was once a lush forest; lake Titicaca was down at sea level (so it's not only the CLIMATE that undergoes extremes of change); Krishna's drowned city of Dwarka was a sea port; the Mediterranean was a deep valley until the dyke between Africa and the Iberian peninsula collapsed and caused the Great Flood ... we could go on and on about Earth changes.
Ocean Levels have been RISING and then Falling for 10's of thousands of Years and Land Masses have also risen and fallen over the Eon's (period)!
Pinch Gut Island in Australia has records of sea levels since 1788 and the sea level has barely changed in 236 years yet scientists claim right next door Sydney Harbour has experienced sea level rises in line with global rises. Considering the same ocean has both areas strange one is rising whilst the other says NO CHANGE at all. But then again Pinch Gut has the level measured several times a day taking into account high/low tides etc whereas the Harbour is NOT measured daily at the same times and of course you will get fluctuations with the changing tides.

At least mine, because this is complete bullshit. Before 2040 we will have to deal with the pole flip, which will cause continents to shift. And then there is the question, will there still be humanity around 2040 or will they have wiped us out with a new Covid-like virus. Or maybe we will be replaced by AI.
According to NASA sea level is rising at around 3.4mm per year. This is imperceptible without scientific instruments and there is nothing you can do to stop this from continuing. It is certainly no reason to stop using fossil fuels.
NASA is just propaganda with no real substance.
It is measured by radar from satellite then the information is transmitted to the ground which analyzes the radar data via computers and come up with 3.4 mm/yr. This is why sea level activist hate it-no activist are involved.

Before all the ice is melted, there is a big delay. So these cities are the ones that are more in danger due to a small elevation and they are sinking as well. If you don't bring sediments to a delta, then it sinks little by little.
Just remember this is based on ALL the ice melting. I remember the South Pole was also melting yet today has more ice than 50 years ago. Yes, in some parts the ice has disappeared entirely yet in other parts the level of ice has grown with the net result being GROWTH not decline overall. But of course the CC/GW cultists never mention these anomalies to their predictions. Remember the polar Bear was supposed to become extinct by 2013 according to Al Gore yet at last count the population has grown by more than 700% since his prediction. And if you are in your 70's this is the 100th time I have heard all these predictions. The only thing that changes are the dates when they fail to occur yet you youngsters get roped in every decade or so with new/old predictions being recycled with new dates and data. Great comedy watching/listening to you all running around like chooks with their heads cut off repeating the same garbage your grandfathers probably started back in the late 1950's/60's. It is probably the hot air all you cultists are expelling warning everyone that is causing whatever small rise in temps that is occurring.

Growing up in the 1960s in SW Indiana, we heard of California West Coast falling into the ocean soon. I have lived in the SW Coast of California since 1982 & the East Coast & Florida is now sinking fast while I am High & Dry!

People there will not buy the rubbish the so-called educated West does. Only the West believes in crisis's like GW/CC that have seen little change in the 200 years it has been spreading around the globe. If one kept a list of the bearers of doom and gloom the score would be 1000+ predictions with maybe 1 or 2 somewhat occurring. A very dismal track record even if I say so myself. Heard Al Gore the other day predicting a billion climate refugees by the end of this century. Funny but they told us the same thing last century and it failed to occur(and it was 500Million not a billion but I guess inflation accounts for the rise) lol. Sadly, failed predictions seem to constantly be recycled to the next generation and like lemmings they believe them. When asked why all the things that were supposed to happen did not they always come back with all the measures put in place have prevented it until you tell them emissions today are double what they were just 50 years ago yet there is almost NO change to climate matching the rise in emissions. And to top it off every measure they have introduced since 1970 has resulted in INCREASED Emissions with ZERO fall in emissions anywhere. Just shows they know little of what they speak.

Sea level has only been defined to an accuracy of plus or minus 1 inch since 1996. There's no real way to relate measurements taken even a hundred years ago to this standard with any accuracy of more than plus or minus 3 inches because of factors such as land still rebounding from being compressed during the last ice age and other geologic factors affecting the Benchmarks that those measurements used to define sea level.

it is so refreshing not to be told (again) we will all live under water in 12 years. those of us with intact memories are so tired of the 12 year mantra every year since 1988. i live on the ocean since the 1980's and have not noticed any elevation of the water whatsoever.
We have a sea-level beach (Moonlight) plus a couple of inches; since 1970 no change and no flooding. Also some islands that are flooded are unstable and actually sinking but "inhabitants" (suspect) are crying for help ($$$) to mitigate their dire dilemma.

The oceans have already risen. They are just about done rising. They have already risen 400 feet. There's ony about 20-30 feet of fresh water to melt feom all of the sea ice. That's north and south poles.
Sea levels have risen in the past, but the current rate is accelerating due to climate change. The exact amount of future rise is uncertain, but even a modest increase can have significant impacts on coastal areas. Adaptation and mitigation are crucial.

You are not taking thermal expansion of sea water into account though, wayne. That, coupled with the extra water from the ice melt, would cause a much higher rise in sea level than your 20 to 30 feet. At the current rate the ice is melting and the sea temperature is rising, I have seen figures of around a 200 feet rise as the likely scenario.

Thermal expansion slows down dramatically once the fresh water and salt water mix together and after the land is cooled down from the cold water. At the beginning of a major ice melt. It may expand. But that beginning is long long gone my friend
