The Doors - Riders On The Storm
Band: The Doors
Album: The Very Best of The Doors
Release date: 2001
Track number: 7
Genre: Psychedelic Rock
Lyrics:
Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm
Into this house we're born
Into this world we're thrown
Like a dog without a bone
An actor on a loan
Riders on the storm
There's a killer on the road
His brain is squirmin' like a toad
Take a long holiday
Let your children play
If ya give this man a ride
Sweet family will die
Killer on the road, yeah
Girl ya gotta love your man
Girl ya gotta love your man
Take him by the hand
Make him understand
The world on you depends
Our lives will never end
Gotta love your man, yeah
Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm
Into this house we're born
Into this world we're thrown
Like a dog without a bone
An actor on a loan
Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm
I used to listen to this when I was 63 and now I’m 17 this will forever be a classic

You could argue the song is more famous than ever before.

one of the most magical moments in my life happened when my partner and myself were driving through Wales in the UK, we started to drive down into a valley and the weather changed, from sunny to very stormy... we drove through the valley, and as we reached the hill top on the other side, the song ended and the sun came back. Wales is a magical place already, but that moment will live in my soul forever.

I think Jim was with you that day.
Thank you for this wonderful story.
I can picture that. This music can take you back to experiences and feelings gone by.
Jim Morrison was one of those special people who only came into this plane of existence once every 500 years or so. As a teen, I was completely mesmerized by his music and lyrics. Be sure to read the books about him; but especially, listen to his music. No need to over-intellectualize it. Just listen. RIP Jim.
Well he's still alive 😅

As a locomotive engineer our anthem is The Sounds of Silence, because we quite literally listen to silence. no music allowed. So jealous that you can listen to music while driving your rig.

Yup
This is... Looking for words, and pardon the crassness, "Fucking awesome" fits. (born in 1973, discovered Doors in the 90's when they were already vintage, fuck me.. )
First band I was in, summer of 1995. We'd hit a rough patch with our van. Our drummer, who drove the van and is still a master problem solver, took a screw out of a seat belt buckle and threaded it into a leaking brake line. Just enough to hope we could get to the next town. We were broke and hungry and we ended up on a 2 lane country road and started trying to find some music. AM radio like 2am, it was raining. Riders on the Storm was on and was clear as a bell.. we all looked at each other. Surreal moment man.
That’s one of those forever moments Locked in time - glad you remember so fondly
Great story!!

This song is the epitome of that dark noire cyberpunk bar vibe. 4 am with a hot black coffee under the thick cigarette smoke looming above. A lady in that red dress, oozing trouble, is staring at you from across the bar, where a regular jazz musician graces the air between the both of you. I wish more music did that too me. The vibe that this song brings is simply immaculate. Feels like chilling at a local cafe, on a rainy evening, while a band is performing jazz at the cafe
And dont forget beer!
Listening to it on LSD makes it insaaaaanely intense. Life is the storm, unpredictable, and could be snatched away in an instant. The song conveys a sense of how fragile your mortality is and how brutal getting by in the world is, but it also has a stoic element to it. With the steady, courageous instrumental going the distance, it's extremely powerful and paints a hardcore picture of survival. Think about how many people died at or before your age, and how eventually you'll join them sooner or later. They rode on the storm till it swept them away. The "girl you gotta love your man" lyric is the realization that women are the gatekeepers of life, and they do have to love their man, seriously, because the entire world does quite literally depend on that. It's a fucking masterwork song depicting the human experience.
Very fucking indeed hahahaha

This is the perfect song to be on the road with late at night.
Listened to this sitting on a hotel balcony in Virginia Beach one night during a huge thunderstorm, overlooking the ocean. Military ship lights blinking out in the darkness on the horizon, lightning flashing off in the night, rain and wind swaying the trees on the empty beach, lights from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge blinking in the dark of the storm...so beautiful and dreamy, wish I could revisit that night.

It's mid summer, 1978.. You're driving a 69 z/28 on a back road in central Texas. It's 3:30 am and nothing but static is coming from your radio. You slowly approach a storm in the distance. As you get closer to the Storm this song slowly fades in. You light a fat joint of Columbian gold.. The rest is history.
Only acceptable boomer comment here
hahaha alright alright
This actually happened.
Here here talking sence 🙋♂️
TX. U wind up in jail. The End
The greatest IMHO American rock band ever.
Yeah me !! 🤣🤣🤣 I used to listen to this when I was 2000 yrs old now I'm back at 35 😂😂😂😂
These kinds of songs make you feel alive again and take you back to the good old days ☺️
Yes.
Hell I wasn't even alive for around another 20 years after this song and this still makes me feel like that...older music to me just has a certain magic
Yeah...the days before this novid bs.... Folk gone and fked up..... So many fools today....
@@crystasorrow9593 it's called original creativity.... Seems to be a thing of the past. Kids need to wake up
Don't make me cry Jim! When I listen to this incredible music I can actually remember how it felt in those days - not remember "about" how it felt - but precisely remember the feeling of the time. We were so fortunate to live in those days.
Don't want to take away credit from Jim Morrison, he was a genius of his time, but the Doors just wouldn't be the Doors without Manzarek's masterful key playing. His playing makes this and the rest of their music instantly recognizable.
they were 4 special ones
@@viajeraa5000 chemistry & magic, just like zep, beatles, stones, queen a bunch of other bands, same vibration
exactly!
Was just pointing this out to my 26 yr. old son, who discovered The Doors all by himself.
Your so right.
Bass on this is fabulous - I never really noticed it back in '71 on our cheap car radio speakers - The Doors ended WAY too soon. RIP, Jimbo.
Thank you Need For Speed for showing me this gem. :D
Same good old underground
First heard this when I was about 13 years old. 50 years later, it’s still one of my favourites.
You last name williams
yea, many songs that I liked then embarrass me today
@@thomasgarbe8354 Not for me. I discoverd a lot of music from the late sixties early seventeis when I was a teenager in the mid 80's. Almost none of it embarrasses me. The Doors, Henrix, The Beatles, Led Zep, The Stones, Bowie, Deep Purple, Early Pink Floyd, are the big names, but there is so much more from that era that has shaped music forever and for the better.
me too

One of the greatest songs ever written....by far!
The true story that inspired him to write this is chilling, he caught the feeling of it accurately. RIP Jim Morrison.
I'm sure he had help
RIP the two members of The Doors Jim Morrison (December 8, 1943 - July 3, 1971), aged 27 Ray Manzarek (February 12, 1939 - May 20, 2013), aged 74 You both will always be remembered as legends.
Just wanted to say, I’d have another look at the maths for Jim Morrison (R.I.P.). Second one is right though.
Scratch what I said, apparently it is right… my bad
woah, didn't know ray died, i feel very sad right now...
