YEAR TWO | Removing Every Trace of the Abandoned Pot Farm

Year two on the homestead was all about the great outdoors. I built a rock retaining wall, a garden bed for agave out of reclaimed materials, and (re)built a privacy fence. Even more importantly and excitingly, I finally got all the trash picked up and the land smoothed out so that I have a clean slate to work from in the years to come on the homestead. Just a couple of suggestions. Research syntropic methods. Don't burn, rather chip and cover your soil, don't remove your weeds. Always cover your soil. Build it up gradually. Harvest your water, with swale (permaculture )
100%!
Yes, try to keep your soil covered or clothed. I know, I know, this is desert we're talking about. But it will make a big difference in soil nutrition and ecology. I collected old paint buckets and fill them with kitchen scraps, weeds and then water for compost/fertilizer. It works wonders.
The Robbie and Gary channel outlines a compost-in-place method for planters that might interest folks. It works wonders and I bet it would make sense whenback-to-Eden, permaculture and syntropic methods are used to build up soil biology.
I am 74 year old lady, trust me when I say, there is no right or wrong way to do anything.. just different! Embrace your different.
Grow hemp, make bricks to build tiny homes! You saved the world building this 5 acres thanks you so much!
Hi from Scotland, I think you’ve done brilliantly. You’ve tackled a degraded & abused piece of land thoughtfully & have plans to reintegrate it into the natural world . I hope your folks are proud.👍🏼
Thank you so much. They're proud for sure. My dad even texted me that he got a little teary watching the video. 😅
I have good news. The weeds are doing the ecology a great service!! Your place is perfect for syntropic methods! ♥️🏴
may not be the most glamorous place to live, but your hard work is making it into a keeper.
Depends on what one calls glam!
You got lots of grit. No need to rush, home renovation is a lifetime job so there's no real push. I like how practical and realistic your projects are.
I don't know what year 3 will hold but I will be here for it. Good luck!
Thank you for joining me on the journey!
Can only imagine how proud your parents must be of you. ❤
They are 🥰
Well done. You give your dad great joy when you let him in. I recommend taking those weeds into compost and shredding any wood you come up with to add to the weeds. This is an easy way to start improving the soil. You are rocking it kiddo!!
Yup. Lots of compost piles around the property. will definitely need all the soil I can get since everything is sand out here
@@MyWayofEverything I put up with yard maintenance and gardening so I can compost. Of course, you have to add water more regularly than me. I look forward to you putting little check dams in so start capturing some of the deluges that occur on your property. I worked in the Mojave for years and absolutely love everything about it’s vastness
Myself I commend you for what you've done! Many wouldn't have attempted to do what you've done so far! I'm a Retired Building Contractor so I know that when you work and do what you've accomplished is a heck of a milestone! Congratulations.
Thank you ☺️
Your doing an incredible job!!! Your way is the right way for you don't matter what anyone has to say a out it. There are haters all over KZhead. Just keep being you.
Ok, I’m new here. The algorithm offered me this video 2 weeks ago and I watched only a few minutes of it before knowing that I HAD to know more. I went back to when you bought the homestead and have been binging to catch up. All I can say is, wow! I am so impressed by you! You know what you want from life at such a young age and you are going for it! I can’t wait to see what all you accomplish in year three! 😊
Welcome aboard! Thanks so much!!!
I LOVE your agave garden + fence on the neighbor side. It looks great!
I enjoy watching your Journey. Life isn’t a race. It takes people years to realise that. Greetings from Scotland 🏴. 😊
A beautiful and wonderful place, and what is even more important is your resourcefulness in choosing your life. I wish I could be a visitor, even if only for a moment. Greetings from Algeria, my dear lady.
looks beautiful the property has become united with the land again
The more organic matter you have the better ✌️👏
Hi from Madrid. I am new to the channel. Binge watched from the beginning. It looks much better without the fence, the fence with the property neighbor much better than to look at a property. You have done a great job and by watching One can see your personal change as well, with the ups and downs of life. Be watching in the future ❤❤
Oh wow, your place looks soooo good with that horrid fence down! You can truly enjoy the amazing view now. I'm so happy I found your channel, it's so different from all those "I moved into a cabin in the woods" channels and I love to see the desert and all the wildlife you encounter there. Great job on getting so much work done!
Thank you! I've been loving the views! Make sure to subscribe so you don't miss my next video! 🧡
You are doing great. We are fixer uppers ourselves.
Your homestead looks amazing. Dads are great! You have been hard at work. Great job! Have a great day.
Thanks so much
Your Dad is a good man. :)
Great job. I don't know how much underground water the were using with that huge tank but you may want to consider using methods to recharge underground water now to incorporate into your plans. Also a gutter and water catchment system could be really valuable in the future. You go girl I love how diverse your skills are.
You could use all the small rocks and stuff to make a small outdoor fireplace ! Stack them up and use some fire safe mortar maybe?
Your own peace of paradise 👏
You should be very proud of all the work you did, just working on your own car is very major accomplishment. Most people are afraid to try to work on their own vehicles. I have been doing it since I was 16 years old, and I use KZhead all the time to figure things out. Did you ever check into rainwater bathtubs maybe some motes around your different plants?
Love the work you’ve put in! Some ideas for those rocks- a dry riverbed to direct water when it rains, and a few piles for the lizards. They love rock piles and breed there. That will keep the roadrunners there too! Also- there’s a way to stack and keep plant around them well watered by dew.
Should think about some Guinea hens to tackle all the bad guys. They make a great alarm system. Noisy…but only when they are chasing something.
Oh ya,5000 that’s big.congratulations!!
You have a lot to be proud of . I admire your hard work.
Thank you so much!
I came across the video by chance and have to say: Hats off! What a great achievement! Even though I don't like the Arizona desert at all, I can totally relate to nature. I wish you many wonderful years with your house and property! With lots of love and greetings from Hamburg, Germany!
Thanks so much! 🇩🇪
The view much better instead of the fence! ❤
I remember when you 1st got the property..You have done a lot for 1 person..I will keep watching ur journey ❤
Thank you. 😊
Hey and hello from germany... I think you are realy brave to move alone in the middel of nowhere and for all you have done and can do at your age, you can be realy proud. I use to live in Oklahoma and we would get red sandstorms.. what a mess.. I would have kept the fence to have a bit of shelter from the wind and sandstorms. You may wanna think about a water saving system on the property . In way of shallow canals throuout and going into a big pond or zistern. When it rains, the water can run there then and not anywhere, where you dont want it. The wildlife would like that too. They started doing that in lots of desert countrys to make them fruitfull again and have watter in drout times. All best of luck and dont be so hart on yourself. You are doing great..❤
Theres some great channels on growing in the dessert and permaculture type approach. Keeping as much water as possible on site etc. First time ive watched you, your voice and narration is easy to listen to!
i love your homestead project, you should be so proud of yourself! you go girl!!!
Your AMAZING!! And you WORK on cars too?...Incredible!! You are one smart cookie!😊
I try 😅
Proud of your work miss. Respect 🐺
Amazing video. Thank you for making such a honest memory. Thank you please make more and share more.
Watching from Manchester, UK. You're living the dream, loving the progress well done
Thanks so much!! 🌍
I ran across this. I enjoyed your honest reflections. Just remember it’s a journey, not a race. You’re doing great. Keep it up.
First time viewer. I am amazed what you are achieving, while also holding down a full time job.
Thanks and welcome
It’s a big task young lady…..but you have the girl power……thanks dada to!
Pretty amazing young lady, doing a great job..... impressive how much knowledge you have for auto repair 😊. Your an inspiration. Thank you
Just figuring it out as I go along haha!
Hello from Germany. I love how you get things done! Keep going!
You can take some of the pipes and turn them into wind chimes, I think, that would be cool.
Enjoy your videos. I also live in the desert and it is a beautiful place. Through your channel, people are able to see that beauty and peace it offers.
I’ve never subscribed to any Utube video. But what you are doing makes me so happy. Just finished my remodel/build of my house in Canada. Didn’t do it myself. I would rather work at a job I love and pay someone to do the work who knows what they are doing. But I’m proud of it and now have exactly what I want. I grew up in the desert southeast of where you are. Nice to get a taste of home. All the best
Thank you for sharing your journey, best wishes from Sydney, Australia xx
You have such amazing view out your backyard, I’m glad you took down all that stupid fencing.
You're crushing it. Great job.
I think your great what you've achieved is great. and hats off to good old dependable Dad. Onwards and up wards❤
Yup. My dad is awesome. Thank you. ☺️
congrats on the work you have completed.
Maringo is an amazing hardy plant. The plant can be used for a vegetable and has other uses. Good luck
That's really cool. You're doing great and it looks like you are thinking things through a lot
Great job! That is a massive amount of work for one person to do, you have a lot to be proud of 🥰This next year is going to be fantastic.

Fantastic video! I'm glad I found your channel. You've done a great job with your property. The difference is astounding. Also, kudos to your narrating skills! I laughed out loud several times throughout the video. I look forward to watching your journey.
Thank you so much! ☺️
You are a true inspiration to me. Your place looks amazing, there is something about the desert that brings peace to me, although I never visited USA, or seen a real desert. Can't wait for the next video.

Awesome as always, keep pushing forward. Blessings from the UK
Thank you! 🙏🏼
Holy crap I would be so proud of that place!
Thanks. I’m getting there. Still SO much to do. 😮💨
We rented a home back in 84, we found out real fast a dealer had once rented it, we were getting folks showing up all hours at our doorstep, we moved 6 months later.
Haha. Luckily everyone seemed to know these guys were gone. No one’s disturbed me
So impressive! Love from the Netherlands
Thank you for being one of the the people cheering me on from across the world!
Heather you are absolutely amazing! This is so cool! I'm so excited for you!
Thank you 😊
Your property looks fantastic! What a great transformation. Can’t wait to see what you do next.
Thanks! ☺️
Great job! It's a lot of work you have accomplished.
Looking good. Well done but. don't burn organic like branches. chop and drop. Leave on the ground or compost it in a corner leave the weeds alone. They will not get that big and they hold the water in the ground and shade. maybe watch Jeff Lawson Greening the desert
You spent a lot of time un f**ing the place. Takes a lot of resources to do. You're doing great.
Bougainvillea will grow very well out there. And add beautiful color.
Im in !! Can't wait to see what you're home becomes ! Thanks for sharing !!
You're my inspiration, girl!
Hello from England, excellent video
I would recommend getting a bee hive around the same time you start the garden to help the plants considering your in the desert there is probably not a lot of pollinators... you would probably need to build a small open sides shelter for the hive due to the heat but I would recommend a "Flow Hive" as they are low maintenance, the "Flow" company can also teach you how to keep bees
I am interested in keeping bees however there’s TONS of native bees out here. There’s also wild honey bees too. I’ve seen 2 swarms now but am not quite ready to commit to keeping them.
One of tour forêt subscribers ils sont cool to se tour progress … contrats and jeep goinng ils always so cool to se tour vidéos… big hello from Casablanca 🤙🏼👍🍀
Ceramic window tinting. Keeps heat and UV out. I have been researching for my west facing windows. Privacy added bonus.
you doing great, and now for the outside you have a clean canvas.
Exactly 🥰
Everything looks awesome. You did a great job
Congratulations, you have a fan in Trinidad 🇹🇹
You are an awesome Wonder woman. Love the antique wheelbarrow.
My realtor actually saved it for me from the first property we viewed together. The new owners didn’t want it. He’s the best. 💕
Great progress!! I think your way of doing everything is spot on 😊
Thanks so much! 😊
Thank you for letting me see your adventures, I will be watching. Love, Papa Smerf

That was fun. I'm glad that you are doing things your way. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Thanks for watching!
To make the "drag" smooth better, build a box on it with some cedar fence boards. Then put two buckets of sand in the box. Couple spins around the yard. Not smoother...put two more sand in the box. The object is to stop the drag from going up and down over bumps. The right amount of weight and the drag will cut the bumps down level with rest of sand.
Congratulations on the 5k subscribers!!!!
Thank you so much 😀
I see your canvas.Your going to have a great year.
Looks great, good progress 🇬🇧🇬🇧👍👍
Just found you, wow girl love what you’re doing💕👍I will support you!
