YEAR TWO | Removing Every Trace of the Abandoned Pot Farm

2024 ж. 27 Сәу.
67 301 Рет қаралды

Year two on the homestead was all about the great outdoors. I built a rock retaining wall, a garden bed for agave out of reclaimed materials, and (re)built a privacy fence. Even more importantly and excitingly, I finally got all the trash picked up and the land smoothed out so that I have a clean slate to work from in the years to come on the homestead. Subscribe if you want to follow the journey and check out my channel if you want to see the full length videos of anything showcased here!

  • Just a couple of suggestions. Research syntropic methods. Don't burn, rather chip and cover your soil, don't remove your weeds. Always cover your soil. Build it up gradually. Harvest your water, with swale (permaculture )

    • Yes, try to keep your soil covered or clothed. I know, I know, this is desert we're talking about. But it will make a big difference in soil nutrition and ecology. I collected old paint buckets and fill them with kitchen scraps, weeds and then water for compost/fertilizer. It works wonders.

    • The Robbie and Gary channel outlines a compost-in-place method for planters that might interest folks. It works wonders and I bet it would make sense whenback-to-Eden, permaculture and syntropic methods are used to build up soil biology.

Also a gutter and water catchment system could be really valuable in the future. You go girl I love how diverse your skills are.

  • You should be very proud of all the work you did, just working on your own car is very major accomplishment. Most people are afraid to try to work on their own vehicles. I have been doing it since I was 16 years old, and I use KZhead all the time to figure things out. Did you ever check into rainwater bathtubs maybe some motes around your different plants?

    @danross344@danross34424 күн бұрын
  • Love the work you’ve put in! Some ideas for those rocks- a dry riverbed to direct water when it rains, and a few piles for the lizards. They love rock piles and breed there. That will keep the roadrunners there too! Also- there’s a way to stack and keep plant around them well watered by dew.

  • Hey and hello from germany... I think you are realy brave to move alone in the middel of nowhere and for all you have done and can do at your age, you can be realy proud. I use to live in Oklahoma and we would get red sandstorms.. what a mess.. I would have kept the fence to have a bit of shelter from the wind and sandstorms. You may wanna think about a water saving system on the property . In way of shallow canals throuout and going into a big pond or zistern. When it rains, the water can run there then and not anywhere, where you dont want it. The wildlife would like that too. They started doing that in lots of desert countrys to make them fruitfull again and have watter in drout times. All best of luck and dont be so hart on yourself. You are doing great..❤

  • To make the "drag" smooth better, build a box on it with some cedar fence boards. Then put two buckets of sand in the box. Couple spins around the yard. Not smoother...put two more sand in the box. The object is to stop the drag from going up and down over bumps. The right amount of weight and the drag will cut the bumps down level with rest of sand.
