Submitted video of a working fire at Tom's Garage & Auto Sales on Wade Road in Saint Clair. Gordon Fire Chief 46 found the fire and called it in by radio. Crews had the fire under control in 20 minutes. Saint Clair Fire Department responded with RIT from Pottsville.
"Mr. Smith, this is Tom's Garage. We just want you to know your car is done. Well done as a matter of fact" :)
kinda cool that the civilian took control of the ladder controls unless if thats a off duty or volunteer firefighter
Most likely a volunteer firefighter who lives near by
nice work guys
First truck arriving was hitting the fire hydrant, but looks like they must have forgot how to do that because truck kept sitting there :) That truck should have only been there for 30 seconds MAX.
🤡🤡
Nothing like using an aerial ladder for a job easily done with a 14-16 ft roof ladder. I would much rather walked hunched over for 50-60 ft. than climb a short distance like 14-16 ft.. NOT.
i see your point but nothing wrong with another means of egress!
The problem is the personnel wanted setting up an aerial! An aerial is not a replacement for ground ladders.
I agree. Positioning the ladder was a waste of time and manpower. They could have thrown the entire compliment of ground ladders in the time they were using to cut the flag line down. There was absolutely no reason to set that ladder truck up. I understand having a second means of egress but the second, third, and even fourth means of egress are right there in the back of the truck.
When you have a toy you play with it,
Enjoyed the "full turn-out Green hoody" for the ladder operator who parked UNDER the power lines.. Ever wonder why your Fire Insurance rates are so high? I know they are Volunteers, but even THEY should get some much needed, FIREGROUND training. My apologies to anyone who is offended by my remarks but..Sometimes...Facts do that.
The offense I see is singking out Volunteers, I have seen so many Paid firefighters do as much as any others. I’ve living out west, we’re it is almost all paid, I don’t think they every saved a house.
The insurance companies haven’t got a clue of what a department does on the fire ground. Quite frankly, they would rather the building to burn down and pay for the damage than someone to get hurt. That is the facts this day and time. Anyone that gets hurt seriously can also hold the insurance company liable. If you don’t think so look at the 12 firefighters that were killed battling the Charleston furniture store. It would have been far cheaper for them to just let that building burn to the ground than to pay out all the litigation cost that they endured.
@@poppiarlin5612 9 firefighters lost their lives at this fire not 12.
If they don’t have to then don’t but he’s fine under those lines guy. See it in NYC all the time. Facts
Is there a part 2? Nothing like keeping us hanging
Unfortunately not. I wasn't able to get there but a friend capture this video for me
Do you have the full version?
No. They are just submitted clips put together
Do we always stretch a 1 3/4” line for a commercial fire...? Or just this fire...? Either way should have been a 2 1/2”
For a structure of THIS size, and the smoke conditions, I don't have a problem with an 1 3/4" line. I'd have a 2 1/2" ready for backup though. It also depends on contents, maybe they know what the fire load is. I don't know why it didn't come off the first engine though...
@@ffjsb …Nah. We teach our guys ANY commercial building 2 1/2 gets stretched. Takes the guessing and indecisiveness out of it. 1 3/4 has been proven not to have enough volume to properly knock down and heavy fire load. Why wait?
@@heavy7799 A drive up coffee shop is technically a "commercial structure, you gonna pull a deuce and a half for THAT??? We teach our guys to size up the building and smoke. We don't "guess". "Heavy fire load" is subjective. There's light, lazy smoke with no pressure coming from the building. It's NOT a big fire. Work smart not hard...
@@ffjsb Ok. Best of luck
Predetermined deployment based on occupancy usage is for those who are not capable of making command decisions!
Nice footage. Hope his business wasn't a total loss.
As far as I know the business is still operating. I wasn't aware this happened until finding this video. I drove by there a few days ago as of typing this reply and the garage doors were open with a vehicle inside assumable being repaired by the mechanics that work there so I believe these heroes saved the building and business. I'm from the area and as long as I can remember (I'm 45) Tom's has been in business since I existed. I remember hearing advice to people to "Take it to Tom's Garage in Wadesville" (or St. Clair, it's not in St. Clair it's in a borough of St. Clair - Wadesville or right on the line between the 2) as a kid.
@@jackschitt7783 This should be an historic place, a competent mechanic who can really repair cars. Pretty rare in my town.
Great park job on the ladder truck!!!!!!!! Why would you EVER park under power lines.
Nice NFPA approved green hoodie
Not to mention the other guy in the orange t-shirt advancing a line!
Who says what he wears has to be NFPA approved?
@@poppiarlin5612 Uh, national STANDARDS??
And if he was wearing a station uniform looking official no one would pay one bit of attention to him...... He’s far from “advancing” a line. He took the nozzle near the front door, flakes out a fold of hose and pulls out his phone. If he stayed at the front door helping push the line in, that would be a different story. He could be a firefighter that didn’t have his gear? Or maybe a member from a neighboring department that just stopped to help how he could? I’d be more inclined to worry about the member working on top of a big metal truck, using a metal tool under live electrical wires. I’m pretty sure he’s the one that’s more likely to be seriously injured here. He doesn’t need to contact the wires, only get close enough for the current to arc. He’s the member that could have been taking the place of the orange shirt guy rather than wasting time trying to get an aerial in place at a single story building.
What is rit?

What is the guy in the shorts and green top doing? Has he not got any PPE?
@@andyoxleyonhistravels I think that some of these guys are bystanders or employees of the garage trying to help out.
@@DavidSmith-sb2ix Then politely ask them to move away.
IIs the guy in the orange shirt a firefighter?
Don’t know, but he is overly excited and has no gear. Thank God I live in a major city.
@@Michaelbos Shaggy is moonlighting from the Scooby Doo Adventures...
Guy in orange should be made fire chief
I don't know Tom but I hope he's ok and up and running soon. Not a good time to have this happen.
This was posted almost 2 months ago now. I've driven by Tom's several times since then and around the time this happened. I wouldn't know this happened if it weren't for this video. They're still open and operating. And, at least to my knowledge, Tom's Garage is one of the best and most positively reputable auto repair shops in this area.
@@jackschitt7783 Good to hear that. Good auto mechanics are hard to find anymore. Everyone wants to be a computer person today.
@@DavidSmith-sb2ix Too true! And that's a shame. It's also a shame that mechanics for vehicles of today also HAVE to have computer knowledge. It would be great if transportation machines were only mechanical (still). I would agree life for everyone would be better that way. Keep computer stuff separate in it's own world. I view the internet and some technology like I view contraband I'm not a fan of: It's poison everyone should avoid. Facebook and Twitter to name 2 that should be avoided.
Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy 😔
I didn't think chubbs was going to make it up the ladder 😂
That’s nice of you to talk shit on someone
@@dmlinky LOL. I just call it as I see it. Fireman just like police officers should be fit and in shape. Not a heart attack waiting to happen.
You don’t pay much attention to the emergency services huh? A huge percentage are “heart attacks waiting to happen”
@Pottsville Fire Department Not saying that I could do better. I have done better 🖕
This a prank video right? Right? What FU$@ is a ladder doing in front of a one, repeat A ONE STORY building? You do know that there are classes you can take that teach you how to fight fire? Right?
I can't bring myself to give videos and photos of things like this a like in consideration to the victims of such events but I'm compelled to comment and thank the firefighters for a job well done saving this from ending one of the area's oldest auto repair shops (as far as I know it's one of the oldest).
The like is for the person who filmed/edited/uploaded the video.
