Video tutorial showing how to make an incredible 'Forged Carbon River Table', a mash up of two very popular looks from the last few years - the resin river table and forged carbon fibre!
We've included all the steps along the way including preparation, calculating how much resin and chopped tow you'll need, mixing, pouring and curing the resin and finishing the project.

Stunning. Awesome video - thanks. Have you tried adding the carbon fibre as a thin coat to a counter top?
Hi Raz, thank you for your kind comment! On a flat surface a staged approach is best. Apply a thin coat with resin and allow it to get to B stage. Repeat and then finally apply a flood coat of resin for the gloss finish. You could even apply an unperforated release film to help roller it flat to help the fibres stay down rather than sticking up.

Amazing, may I ask why you started with 120 and not 80? Not a criticism, because it looks amazing, just wondering is all
Hi Kenneth, the 120 grit is fine as it didn't require that level of cutting.
Bonjour, when I sanded my first little table, the resin softened, what mistake did I make? THANKS
In all likelihood you have passed the heat distortion temperature of the resin with the heat build up from the sanding. This would cause it to soften slightly if it go too hot.

If the resin only got slightly too hot then you should find it hardens when it cools back down.

Since this part is not load bearing or critical, just use some black flakes instead. Maybe replace the resin through shellac or something as well go get a way cheaper exactly the same looking alternative, that would be my take. I mean it´s not like you are building an airplane component or something, it´s just a table. While we are at it. Try something new like wood veneed bent into shape via wood glue, vulcanized rubber or cardboard to make a piece of furniture. This would truly be creative.
How many pounds of chopped carbon did this take
We found that about 20% of the weight of the resin works best so for every 1kg of resin used, we added 200g of Chopped Carbon; in imperial measurements, for every 1lb of resin, you'd need 0.2lbs (3.2oz) of Chopped Carbon.

Yes the same principle could be used to save resin.
