Yes he is good but when you are hard of hearing he talk way too fast for me sorry guys

it was not an excellent video, it's ok'ish bc he said one of the relays was supposed to be bad yet he didn't test it to show us why it was bad, very stupiid

I was a heavy equipment mechanic for more than forty years I was self taught on most of what I knew about the electrical end of the business I only wish I had someone like you to teach me some of these things great job keep up the great work
Im 44 and just learning as well. Trying to start a 96 Geo Metro with no spark but the fuel pump comes on. So I bought a millimeter. Excellent video.

This video was extremely helpful. I'm an auto tech student and I've been struggling with understanding electrical circuits. Thank you so much for breaking it down like this.
Thank you for an "honest to goodness" easy to follow and understand tutorial. Very helpful. Also, great camera work.
Thank you man. it is really useful video, I am almost 70 years old and I glad of learning of a young man like you! BRAVO!
As a career electrician and a car hobbiest/buff that like to turn wrenches and test my circuits when I have a problem I commend you on addressing how to bench test a relay and to say great job, very basic info needed to diagnose a majority of electrical control issues in the 21st century and beyond. Good job man!
I purchased a Toyota IQ 2009 push start button last year it was good and all ( its a used car) but i didnt drive it for a little while and now that i'm ready to drive it, its not starting..... Couldnt be the battery because i purchased a new one when i got the car, i just replaced the gas pump and there's petrol in it....... When i push the button to start it stuff shows up on the dashboard but when i try to start the car its making a clicking sound repeatedly then its like its dead again. What could be the issue??

Thanks for the lesson, Homie Hektor. I was troubleshooting the blower fan on my 2005 GMC canyon four-door truck and wondered how to test a relay. It turned out to be the multiple ground module on the front passenger fender, beside the air cleaner, but now, I know how to test a relay! Cool.

You should always test the 30- 87 or 87a connection for Resistance. You can measure voltage or use a test light and that connection might look okay but still have burned or corroded contacts which will give you a Voltage drop/higher than normal Resistance which could prevent enough current from flowing to the Load. Your Resistance measurement should show NO resistance. There should be NO Voltage drop across those contacts. Otherwise you did a very good job producing this Video on this subject.

Great video. Very helpful and informative. I tested the fog light relay on my Wrangler and found it good vs going to parts store for a new one. Thanks for posting.

What a good teacher you are!!! I find relays to be confusing and intimidating to be honest, but after watching your video I now see those relays shaking with fear because I know how to test them now, I no longer have to tell anyone to find somebody that knows how to test them because thats not my forte.... I appreciated this video so much that i put a thumbs up and subscribe aswell, thanks you Homie Hektor.

Very good basic and clear explanation-easy to follow! I like the way you took your time and showed exactly what you were doing-nice work!
ShowSomeRespect Gracias 👊🏼
thank you for teaching me to troubleshoot
One of the most common faults with relays is burnt contacts. Resistance checks don't work . A voltage test across the contacts under load is the test to use
1magnit I have a silly question. How can you put a “load” on a relay that doesn’t work? If the contacts are bad or weak won’t they drop out because of the initial inrush or load? Just a couple of honest questions.
A relay has 2 main parts, the coil and the contacts. You need to be more specific on what doesn't work? A open circuit coil? or contacts that don't "make" A coil doesn't have an inrush current. The load that's switched by the contacts might or might nor, depends on the type of load.
Thank you for this video. You explained it very well and now got a better idea on relays.
Your an excellent teacher. Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Dude, this was a quality video! I'm surprised your under 50k subs! Keep at it though, you'll only gain subscribers faster from here!
Thanks man appreciate that 💯
Great job. You made it so clear.
Truly appreciate the help on Relays
Some relays have a diode in parallel with the coil, hence the direction of connection on these will be important. There are also some relays where pins 30 and 86 are reversed. If you mix up these 2 types (they plug into the same housing) then you land up with some odd effects!
Great video. I am a complete novice so pardon my ignorance but what power source did you use to test the relays? Can you use a car battery or?
This is late but may help someone else reading. Use a 12volt DC direct current as ure source & you should be good. Jump start pack or a supply unit that allows for power to be switched from 69,12,24 to give adequate voltage.
Good job on explaining relays. You are easy to follow.
Hello, I am the self proclaimed "Queen of mechanical failures". Whatever I'm driving, it breaks down! It doesn't matter if it's mine or someone else's,old or new! So that being said, I've been forced to work on my own vehicles for years now . I love your videos especially about relays! It's so informative and easy-to-follow and I appreciate that!
Just found your site, great video, auto electric systems and tests have always been a mystery to me, this helps. More videos showing electrical auto motive test would be great (perhaps they already exist) One simple question on my part, why are there relays and what is there actual purpose in the electrical circuit?
On a circuit that has a high amperage draw there is a heat problem wherever there is resistance. Invariably that is at a switch point. so a toggle switch or other kind of switch can't handle a continuous high amperage going through it. It will burn up. So we use a toggle switch with a low amperage circuit to trigger the relay which completes the high amperage circuit to get the job done. It is really just a much heavier and stronger switch.
