oh damn, for a moment I thought: "Why would anyone want to lick 91 instruments?"
🤣🤣
Devious lick, if you're at it. Lol

Well if putting your lips on one counts as licking it then theres a good few instruments he "licks" while licking them.

I love that he continued with giving the electric bass after it was played, really. Among the instruments, the bass for me was always the instrument that gives support for both the percussive and melodic (and harmonic) aspects of music. Of course, there are other instruments that played alongside it, really.

I'm Japanese and I use translations. Sorry if my English is weird. I just recently found this channel and I love your playing. How can you play so many instruments! Above all you have great expressive eyebrows. That's what I love the most. Seeing you enjoy playing makes me happy too!☺️
Don't worry about your English, it will only improve the more you use it so don't hold back!
@@cloroxbleach9222 he's using a translator tho. Most likely doesn't know english
@@eightohthreefilms it's a damn good translator then god damn
wow those translations are really good
@@not_estainsthere's only some unnatural structures and an incorrect one but that's pretty much it, though we have to keep in mind the engine is translating it through japanese
The sheer amount of work it’s gotta take to learn all of these instruments is impressive
Not really… only a dozen or so actually “different” instruments. Percussion arguably doesn’t count, variations of the same instrument are easier to learn once you learn the first instrument. Mastering one instrument is definitely a much larger task than learning the superficial basics of a number of instruments
@@Jwellsuhhuh yea like that one trombone video called "something something A Trombone Sing", that guy was hitting those high notes I bet his lips were numb
@@Jwellsuhhuh yeah i mean you could learn to be the best maracas player of all time with years of mastery of the craft, or you could shake em about for 2 seconds and it does kinda sound like the lick
I count 15 different methods of producing sound, not including the otamatone or any of the percussion. Here's the list: flute method (I couldn't find a better name), single reed (see below), upright string, piano, harp, guitar, neck string, brass (see below again), recorder/air method, double bass, accordion, native flute (? idk I've never heard of it so I counted it outside of the flute group), double reed, mallets, 1/2 size cello thing. Maybe category: autocharp??, kalimba?? I grouped the single reeds as one as if you have the single reed embouchure down, you just need to tweak it al little to play the other instruments of its category. I don't play a single reed anymore, but one of my good friends in band plays clarinet and picked up bass clarinet pretty quickly. I did the same with brass due to the same reason. I once again don't play brass, or at least multiple brass instruments, but it seems that you can pick up others easy if you know one, unless you are going from like piccolo trumpet to like tuba. Idk what a native flute is or if its like a flute in any way so I was lenient on that. Also I did count the different ways of holding a string instrument and playing them in different categories. Mallets arguably don't count along with the autocharp and kalimba. You could also not count harp or piano. Or even if you were more strict, not count like recorder or accordion or guitar. So like its from 5-15 "unique instruments" in total
@@gamertime7079 I appreciate your analysis. It's no doubt very debatable as to what counts as a "variation" of an instrument. Learning how to play 90 instruments regardless of their similarity to each other is still a feat. and I think I dismissed that fact a bit too much in my first reply. By "percussion doesn't count" I meant unpitched percussion like tambourines, castanets etc. since they are not playing the full "lick" just the rhythm. I still think pianos marimbas etc could count as idk "keyboard" instrument.
All jokes aside, the fact that this sounds genuinely pretty nice is a great lesson in composition. Even limiting yourself to just one measure of melody repeating, there are so many ways to add variety and vibes to it without overwhelming the listener with bells and whistles.
Well said!

ok i find it such a crime that no one is talking about the pure beauty and warmth that is the transition between the cello and the tenor saxophone. could honestly listen to that for hours

I thought I was the only one who thought that
You know, when I was expecting a simple showcase, I didn't expect Luke to go above and beyond with the presentation and make a fully fledged track with the lick. Well played, sir. Well played. Edit: I love how focused he looks when playing all the percussion instruments, while he looks so lax playing the others XD
Thank you!
I thought the same. I didn't expected him to come up with an entire following tracks
'lax'
As an Euphonium player, it makes me happy to see that the euphonium is on this, but not the tuba, since my instrument is always known as "small tuba."
Yeah, using a tuba instead of a euphonium would be a low blow.
I miss tuba☹️
I played the cornet in high school and it was nice to see it instead of just "trumpet" lol

im pretty sure a part of it has to do with the fact that families of wind instruments tend to have similar mechanisms between each other so you can switch into them and use prior instrument experience (thats why theyre transposed)
