Ustad Bismillah Khan was born in a small village in Bihar. His father played the shehnai in the court of Maharaja Keshav Prasad Singh of Bihar. He then moved to Varanasi to live with his uncle who played the shehnai in the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. Ustad had an illustrious career as a prominent shehnai player and was the recipient numerous national & international awards. Ustad often credited his musical prowess to Lord Vishwanath. His last wish was to perform at the India Gate as a tribute to the martyrs.
