Just kinda weird to remove strongholds for a snapshot, isn't it? Wouldn't it make more sense to keep the current system until you finish fixing it, then do a swap when you're ready? Why have a lag period where completion in a new world is impossible

I wouldn’t mind if they revamp strongholds. They’re one of the oldest structures in Minecraft that haven’t undergone any major changes (besides 1.9 drastically increasing the number of them and 1.17 making them 100% sealed in stone). They feel rather outdated by now
Maybe they'll make "Deep Dark" versions of them that are tougher to clear out (plus the Warden to worry about).

I tried the snapshot yesterday, and I did find out it IS still broken. It generates normally, but the Nether biomes are just gone. If you press F3 you can see the biome is still there, but you'll only get the sky color change and ONLY twisting vines, hoglins, or bone fossils, depending on which biome you are, but all over regular Netherrack. The only biome that loads normally is the Basalt Deltas. It's super weird...

When I was in my own 1.17 snapshot world with my friends there were random patches of darkness (no sky or block light) everywhere that didn’t cover terrain, you can find it by just building up. All of us could see different patches of darkness but it was different for everyone but if you build up high enough you can find darkness and even updating it usually doesn’t get rid of it, even with light emitting blocks

updates broke my redstone contraption stairs that would come out the wall and it had a combination lock with a flush 2 by 3 piston door at the top needless to say very complicated and very frustrating to rewire i also dont have a stronghold in my survival world where i had been prepping for beating the game

Lets face it Dream isnt a speedrunner anymore. He cheated and he cant submit runs in the leaderboards. He does manhunts but im pretty sure some parts of it are scripted which doesnt make a valid run. @@SporkleBM They're asking what would happen if you went to a stronghold on a previous snapshot, then switched the version. Presumably, because the stronghold was generated(the blocks still exist, as does the end), everything would be normal, that's generally how seeds work in minecraft.
If anyone's wondering, it's just strongholds, the end itself is still there and you can get to it with console commands

Tbh its probably some form of safeguard to prevent too much lava and water from merging on world create/loads (i feel like there being more water (and possibly more lava) with the update, by doing some sort of chunk/visibility check as well. MY guess is theyre trying to make the logic behind it less cpu consuming) to prevent massive lag spikes when first creating the world or loading new chunks
They're probably trying to optimize the spawning algorithm for strongholds so it won't spawn fragmented and in weird places anymore
If you were to speedrun on that snapshot, you would have to go after the Wither

I'm pretty sure the structures are still in the files, but since they're rewriting the world generation code they somehow missed it?

Yeah, they just forgot to make strongholds generate when they switched to the new feature generations. Note its not a different system, just a different set of instructions that includes stuff like noodle caves, etc

Funnily enough, there is still a similar but seperate bug that permanently deletes all dimensions, MC-197860, which has existed since 1.16.2. If you remove a datapack dimension or modded dimension all other dimensions except the overworld become inaccessible, and won't show up in the dimension registry.

I really do hope they're revamping the Stronghold, I always found it too cramped to feel like I'm approaching the endgame.
That seed was awesome, I was waiting the update just to play on that world, and they covered one of the most suggestive views (I hope i typed correctly).
