When I purchased my ball python from a private collector, we were talking for over a week about how large she already was, what her diet was, how well she sheds, etc. I went above and beyond with the space I gave her and thank goodness I did, because she is growing like a weed. Many people try to do the bare minimum, but they really do thrive with the best care you can give
The funniest episode Dillon ever had. A blast. These blokes make the reptile community special. Monty Python troupe quality. 🎉
I completely agree with that 😂 this one was a lot of fun
Such an enjoyable episode. Theses two are positively delightful.
You'd be surprised how often customers wont or can't read haha. I've had to read out price tags for customers. Regarding customer service is the burnout, very few working ended up keeping pets in the end or their enthusiasm was gone. Being in retail it's working at difficult times, I once broke a rib and had to finish the shift. Customers only make it worse though to be honest and the internet has only enhanced that customer vs store divide. Maybe it's bigger with fishes but constantly no matter what I see comments about not trusting stores or the staff. Interviews like this do help bridge that gap. I did work with reptiles in a store context, I had to as at the time I needed a job was a very bad store in the Southampton area. But then it might not look bad from the outside but the reptiles were bad (I'd argue fish were worse), just the displayed looked impressive but even for the plants they wouldn't live long. I was employed for the fishes and mixed stores have an issue with expecting staff to do it all. It got bought out by one of the owners and honestly became worse. So for stores I research a lot beforehand now and am careful where I go to, a bit of a pain as for each type of pet I need to go to a different store. I just can't justify supporting bad stores .
Great conversation, thankyou. Grimsby is too far away for me, but in the Midlands, I'm very impressed with the family run reptile shop in Coventry. Shame that people don't have / talk about Rankins Dragons as smaller versions of the Beardies - they are great little reptiles. I have my two in a converted piano!!!
Well done cast ,,,, well educated ,,, much appreciated ,,, keep up your amazing works ,,,
Thanks man!!

Did not know these guys existed! Immediately subscribed after listening to only 1/2 the podcast haha! Looking forward to seeing their youtube channel grow :D
Awesome, glad you like them! And thanks for subbing to their channel and watching the episode
When I go to a pet shop is seeing good enclosures that's give a better idea, the first snake I brought 2 decades ago was from a shop that kept their snakes in tubs and stuff. This meant when I went home I recreated similar with very little enrichment then over time learnt and changed improved to today we're my snakes have so much enrichment and excerise in their enclosures alone. I think a shop/breeder needs to show the seller how is responsible to keep their pet not just make a sale. Unfortunately not all pet keepers will put the time in to improve and learn and will be like the shop does this so it's fine. I have bred Cresties last year as its a bucket list dream to breed and pass on my love for reptiles and teach responsible husbandry, I have done this by having an example of a good enclosure for the animals size and also advising how they need to progress. There is nothing inherintly wrong with pet shops it's come down to whether the owner puts money an profit over care and being a positive part of the hobby
Fantastic episode! I really enjoy their channel too they are so funny.

Thank you for joining me on an episode! 🙏🏻
I think the crux of the issue with exotic pet industry in general is that they’re so often seen as “replaceable.” I’ve seen it too many times to count. Genuinely neglectful keepers don’t sweat it if a $70 animal dies because it can replaced it so easily. I think that more or less stems from a lack of empathy towards non mammalian species, but pricing could definitely be a factor there. Then you have the instances where the keeper loves their pet but doesn’t understand the care/time/money it requires. It’s still neglect, but there’s more hope in those cases since they may at least acknowledge room for improvement. I hate to say this because I was a little kid once with no real money to spend, but I feel like higher prices can mitigate instances like this. It paints them as being more than a cheap, replaceable animal and keeps undesirable keepers out of the market entirely. Not the best solution since it cuts down on the hobby’s audience, but I genuinely think it would help reduce cases of neglect and misinformation. Cheaper food, enclosures, and enrichment would help bridge that price gap to a degree, but materials like that lean more towards a fixed price. Regardless, cheaper means of providing quality care paired with a higher cost for individual animals would be an interesting idea to explore.
Very very well said, thanks for watching the episode!
I absolutely love your content and I make sure to comment this every time I watch one of your videos lol. Bring back anole expert Christopher Hitchens!! Haha
Thank you very much! Glad to hear you’re enjoying the show 😀
Great vid, a bit of a rhetorical question. Obviously its not a good idea to sell to people who have no clue but i have a feeling thats not the deep dive point of this conversation 😅 Youre allowed to laugh and have fun, you know that right? Lol Trust me kids arnt watching this. You can have a laugh at adult humor.
😂😂 haha yes that’s true! Thanks for watching 😁
Your podcast title reads “187: AAH Is Selling Reptiles to Uneducated Buyers...” on my app 😂 I thought it's you who are selling the animals. Maybe add a " | " or ": " after AAH to avoid confusion.
😂😂 great point!!
These guys are so funny, love the Trump impressions
😂😂 yes, they’re hilarious!
