Zelda: Ocarina of Time speedruns were changed forever in January 2024, when an accidental discovery when investigating a glitch completely obsoleted a speedrun route that lasted 12 years. Goodbye Ganondoor. Hello Ganonfloor.

  • During the production of this video, it was discovered this glitch can lead to wrong warp chaining on the Gamecube version kzhead.info/sun/iayMc9CwbKBvmmw/bejne.htmlsi=9QMAzfL0tKzwGEDN This discovery will lead to an even faster route for Defeat Ganon, as well as other categories. It's progressed so fast that even though this video was uploaded 2 hours ago, the route is already obsolete and the new route involves pausing once to get the right pixels, it involves the volume of the enemy music to be a certain value and the loading collision is easier to get to, being located just below one of the moving pillars

  • I remember stumbling into an OOT speed run stream right after the original gohma wrong warp was discovered. I don't recall if it was because I regularly watched the streamer's Wind Waker content, or if I discovered their channel that day due to the huge amount of viewers and later stuck around for the WW runs and time save hunts, as it was over a decade ago and my memory ain't what it used to be, but on that day my mind was blown. I thought that any% was solved, and there would probably be less than a minute to push the record down from there. Of course having just seen someone skip from the Deku Tree to the collapse maybe someone would figure out a credits warp, but as far as the game ending with the defeat of Ganon, I figured it was "solved" and with such a short run the high level players would probably start hitting tied WRs and the wrong warp would be split off into its own category in order for runners to continue improving the classic any% route, lest the wrong warp be the death of any% now that it was essentially "solved." Ah, how wrong I was. Turns out the wrong warp route still had room for some time saving breakthroughs that, over time, pushed the already ridiculously low time far lower than I thought possible. Leave it to N64 speed runners to come up with the craziest things. Impossible may as well not be in their vocabulary. And now we have this. A new, faster wrong warp that shakes things up massively yet again. Could this lead to runners beating Ganon so fast that it crashes Paper Mario?

    @DagothXil@DagothXil3 ай бұрын
    • It's because you also need the chus. The "fast" method there is only like 20-30 seconds at most, which is way faster than gathering the extra rupees since kokiri has no decent money routes for child. It's probably a bit closer for the non-clip method, but the clip method is what anyone serious will be doing since vine clips really aren't that hard to do.

      @AtomicArtumas@AtomicArtumas3 ай бұрын
    • Likely also accounts for the 2 deku sticks you need to buy as the only other way to get them is to get the sword to kill a stunned Deku baba. Getting 60 rupees would take very long and since you don't go near the Deku Tree, you won't come across sticks naturally. Hence getting it this way.

    • Honestly, with how the game is set up, the biggest oddity is actually that Master Sword uses the same modelstate as Kokiri Sword in normal gameplay. Meanwhile the state of the "pulling mastersword cutscene"(yes, this makes swinging the sword around look very silly) that is used in the only short duration MS is equipped to Young Link is actually internally assigned to Biggoron Sword.

  • Eventually there will be a way to force this sort of cloning and memory manipulation earlier and earlier, until you win in the forest itself by forcing a dramatic wrongwarp. Even so, I love the explanation involving multiple frame-perfect tricks chained back to back with no retry aside from resetting the game said so casually. Speedrunners, you know? :D

The Tears of the Kingdom one was SO funny with Link getting all the spirits before Rauru even finishes his speech and being told "He's already on his way to Ganon now....". Also that "EXCUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSE ME *zip*" part in the beginning!

This new run is called the Ganonroof and completely makes Ganondoor and Ganonfloor obsolete!" - OoT Speedrunning in 2026, probably

Just a nice thing to do, spreading the exposure and crediting the original creator, while looking very professional. Great video, good narrative story telling!
