You must be joking? This match is seen as infamous by most people outside of Uruguay. This is the thing about the Uruguay team: they cheat and then celebrate as if they have won an honourable victory. No you did not win with honour. You cheated Ghana out of victory. You disgraced yourselves.
So how is cheating when you sancionted Luis Suarez with a Red Card, give penalty, and after missing, Ghana still remains in competition through the penalty kicks? Cheating would have been the hand ball with no red card, no penalty and so forth... P.S.: Everybody who ever played Football knew that Sebastian Abreu will do a 'Panenka' on that shoot...
@@boldrooster9799 Ghana cheated themselves out of a win. Suárez was rightly penalised for his handball. Ryan HAD to score. Had Suárez not been penalised then sure, if agree with all the cheating claims. Fans are way too emotional.

I'm from Turkey and this is one of my main moments of upsets in world cup history. I've remembered this match today and the upset from Ghana missing the world cup semi. His penalty style is risky. Instead of trying to fool the goolkeeper to the opposite side, he targets the top of the net. With that, he could have also hit the bar or missed over the bar in the penalty shootout. Such penalty shooter would never be my choice as a penalty shooter.

Everyone always forgets that the free kick that led to Suarez's handball was because of a simulation (dive) by a Ghanaian. In other words, the free kick and handball should've never happened.

It was Africa's first World Cup. Ghana was a strong team, and had big support there. You might think they deserved it. But focusing on this match, Ghana didn't deserved. And couldn't make it even with a not so little help from the referees.
Germany vs Uruguay for 3rd place was a more exciting match imo..

Bad argument. I guess you're from Ghana, and I understand your enthusiasm at that moment. I'm from Uruguay, not gonna lie... but also tired of criticizing our own ways of playing sometimes. That time, in many little actions the referees were helping Ghana, but there was a huge one: the free kick before Suárez expulsion, where clearly there wasn't any foul. Then, as we know, Suárez used his hand, and was correctly punished as the rules say. Gyan missed that penalty, and it's over. You were strong that year anyways, but didn't deserve more.

Yeah, while at that, why not mentioning that there was an offside by a ghanaian player prior to the handball. With VAR in place the whole action would have been a moot point and Suarez would have played the semis. Uruguay got cheated if anything
