Deadliest Journeys - Haiti: Hell in Paradise

2024 ж. 20 Мам.

00:00 Haiti is the poorest country in the Caribbean. To travel across the country, people and their goods must use only dirt tracks.
02:55 Haiti, once known as the pearl of the Antilles.
14:41 Employment for all ages.
18:40 An island of many religions and many dangers.
27:48 Salt workers, women with a frantic pace of work.
29:25 Haiti, with steep paths and corrupt politicians.
36:23 Miners still searching for gold nuggets.
44:55 When bad weather further complicates their journey.
Travelling the 80km that separates Gonaïves and Môle Saint Nicolas in the North-east takes up to ten hours. There is one bus which makes the journey, and it is far from a comfortable ride.
Directors : Alexandre Spalaikovitch and Guillaume Lhotellier

    • Nope, it wasn’t random or addictive for me, I like this type of documentary about how wonderful places are, knowing that these places will stay on my list of my places I will never, even if I was well enough, visit, especially places like Haiti where successive governments and rulers have allowed ,or even played a major role in, them going to ratsh1t, and then blaming others for their issues. 😀👍🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

    • Problems often created by the same people. Here it would make sense to have some organisation and create a road. There is money in Haiti, if everyone is corrupt then nothing happens. No point complaining either.

    • Indomitable spirit and overcoming problems ? We clearly didn't watch the same video and you are ignoring the clearly obvious truths and instead pretending . They DO NOT solve even the simplest of problems and sit there waiting for help while the buildings crumble on their heads , pipes rust away , roads dissintigrate , fields spoil and trees disappear . . They instead complain that nobody is helping them but when people try to help them they steal and turn insanely corrupt until the helpers simply cannot take it anymore and leave . Westerners come in to plant them crops because they are starving -- the locals salt and destroy the crops once they sprout because they thought the devil was under the earth pushing up the stalks with a long stick . True story . They refuse to plant new trees because effort , or because they are incapable of thinking of the future . Look at a satellite image of Haiti and be amazed that you can see the border so clearly , since they have destroyed the ecology there so entirely and do zero maintenance , zero thinking ahead and have no respect . Things will never get better if you are all either coddling them and doing everything for them , or pretending as you are that they are all well meaning , indomitable and overcoming problems with ease because by saying so you think you are helping make yourself appear virtuous . You want to help ? Be HONEST . Not mean , HONEST . Can we no longer even do that much ?

  • And in Canada we complain about how government isn't providing enough help to support our fragile mental health and whether we are actually male or female. Watching these videos should be mandatory in every high school for at least two hours a day. Absolutely bizarre and disgusting how soft and infantilized we have become. Better yet, we should all be made to live in Haiti for a minimum of a year on what these people have to live on.

  • I've been to Haiti but only to the tourist area which is immaculate. It's hard to believe what the real Haiti is like, and the hard life the people have. I cringed seeing the bus and truck struggling over the rocky roads, and in the heat. The woman taking her gold to the trader made me wonder about his honesty; she was at his mercy, after so much back-breaking work. Here in north America we are so isolated from their lives, having little idea what they go through every day just to survive.

We do it all over the planet, but it is most clear on an island, that our earth has its limits. Soon we'll all end up like in Haiti with no fertile soils left, forests on the hills cut, subsequent floods, lack of drinkable water...

    • @@nomoreechochambers are you that ignorant? There are literally billions of dollars that the US invests in Haiti. Things like clean water, infrastructure, democracy, safety, etc. are all things the us has been doing. The US is the #1 reason why Haiti has not collapsed into utter chaos. Shut up with your communist propaganda.

    • @@cheezy_ow2588 the US. Is the main reason why haiti is in chaos as we speak... dont believe everything you see on the news. Where are those millions of investments? How come the people never see the money... listen idiot those money are falling in the pockets of the elites, the NGO's are sucking up some of it and large corporations of which does not serve the people are gobbling up the money too. The US. Keeps rigging the elections, they are violating the haitian constitution, they are building prisons in haiti to lock all the people up that disagree with them... Haiti needs to kick them out and start fresh and live free and trade with whoever is willing to trade with them especially when it will serve the interest of both countries.
