WeedSweet se le da apoyo al cine mexicano... Pero lamentablemente muchos proyectos son películas basura ("comedias" románticas hechas "a granel" y sin personalidad). La solución intuitiva es no consumir ese tipo de cine, no obstante nos encontramos en una posible dicotomía: si nadie ve cine mexicano, no vale la pena seguir apoyándolo. Ya casi no vemos proyectos tan geniales como "y tu mamá también" e incluso "amores perros" y la infravalorada y terriblemente olvidada "Alicia en el fin del mundo", ojalá y pronto esto cambie.

Why can't all talk show interviews be this real? This one's got it all! Guillermo del Toro makes every film personality giving interviews in talk shows look made out of wax.
Because not all people are capable of having a genuine, honest conversation. I think easier than shitting on celebrities we have to address the fact that some people sit on these couches several times a year with the same hosts, so after a bunch of conversations it's easier to script these encounters and just get them out of the way (these shows air 5-6 times a week). Del Toro isn't on talk shows that often, that and the fact that he is a charming and intelligent man, leads to a real and pleasant conversation.
Actually Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds and Christoph Waltz were also genuine during interviews

I saw the movie at the Toronto International Film Fest back in September and it blew me away! The best movie I've seen in years!

There are lots of possible reasons - I don't know the specific reasons the movie studio had, but the Christmas season is one of the hottest times for cinema so that could be why they are releasing it now. Movies released later in the year that then get nominated for Oscars usually see a bump in ticket sales, it also takes time to properly advertise a movie, etc...

Aunque yo personalmente prefiero la dirección de Dunkirk, Del Toro parece que va a arrasar. Ya se llevó el Critic's Choice y el Globo de Oro. Ya veremos.
Dunkirk? Para nada. En todo caso Paul Thomas Anderson debería ganar mejor director y mejor película por 'Phantom Thread'; la mejor película del 2017. Incluso PTA también debería ser nominado por Best Cinematography ya que el mismo fue el director de fotografía de 'Phantom Thread', aunque él no quiera tomar el crédito.
Alguien que me explique en qué destacó la dirección de Nolan más allá del saber crear espectáculo y lindas imágenes. La Forma del Agua tiene un guión que no cualquiera hubiera podido manejar y tiene una visión única cuyos méritos no se pueden atribuir a nadie más que al director. Dunkerque sólo destaca por su valor de producción (que es prodigioso y absolutamente se merece el Oscar) y por su banda sonora (que por ahí puede ser genérica pero fluye muy bien con las imágenes y eleva sus escenas hasta el punto en el que la película casi se vuelve dependiente de ella). En todo caso si no es Guillermo del Toro los más merecedores serían Paul Thomas Anderson o, Incluso, Greta Gerwig

lol, I see it as a romantic, consenting version of Creature of From the Black Lagoon, but still it's own unique story. Elisa seems to be a combination of Kay from the first film (she loves water, brunette) and Helen from the second film (observing the trapped creature in a water tank, feeling pity for it). It was always hinted in movies that the humans were worse than the Creature himself, through their dubious actions of invading his home and wanting to exploit him for their self-serving agendas. Of course, by the third film "The Creature Walks Among Us", it was perfectly clear the real villain was a human. This may have been the inspiration for Strickland's brutal and disturbing character, but probably 5 times worse. Also, it's not the first time there was a singing/dance duo with an amphibian man and a human woman. The short-lived "Creature From the Black Lagoon" musical at Universal Studios took this daring, if silly, approach 😅

I met this man once and he was/is the kindest and most gentle guy I have ever known. I asked him for an autograph, he gave me that and a firm handshake to go with it. Seriously, del Toro is an amazing guy, I'm glad he got to make a movie HE wanted to make.
Shape of Water is definitely very good but I'm still confused as to how Pan's Labyrinth didn't get a Best Picture nomination back in 2007. It was one of the best films of that decade.

But Guillermo del Toro has a special place in a lot of our hearts because he is just the sweetest, cutest, weirdest, most lovable guy. As a Mexican movie fan I'm glad he's getting the recognition he deserves. For me, I was all in since Cronos. It took Hollywood a lot to get to know and love his mind but we are happy and proud. If he wins and Oscar it's going to be a national holiday.

Guillermo Del Toro is one of my favourite film directors. I love all of his movies and The Shape Of Water really surprised me because I went into it thinking it was going to be a monster movie and it wasn't. It's a very emotional and incredibly moving love story between a woman and this creature. One of Del Toro's best films in my opinion.
