I finished the game and was very disappointed. And as of this situation at the Kamski residence.... I'm no expert in logic, but I think the whole thing is a trick question. Like Connor pointing the gun at the woman android... asking ' Do something like pull the trigger and I tell you everything'. Come on... Connor could have simply turned the gun at Kamski and demand HIM to tell everything... Then Kamski would have had to decide, if the machine is a deviant or just a ordinary android. My educated guess is that Kamski would have told Connor EVERYTHING..

It'll be lose-lose condition for connor (public will hate android, hank blame connor, amanda and cyberlife will probably gone mad). He doesn't hate them, it's a bit complicated. See, a long time ago, Hank's son Cole needed surgery. However, the only available human operator was too hi on red ice to operate him. As such, they had to use an Android. And unfortunately, Cole didn't make it.

Over time through game, When hank had ethylic coma, Connor discovers photo of Cole, and sees revolver with 1 bullet loaded in. Hank responds that he was doing Russian roulette, to see how long he lasts. At hanks lunch break, Connor asks him why he hates androids so much, and Hank replies with: I have my own reasons. At the police station, where Captain Jeffrey Folwer assigns deciancy case to FBI, while homicide is handled only to Hank, hank is starting to have doubts whether hes on the side of police or deviants people who want freedom, and want to end slavery. Connor is the one that can shift Hanks beliefs about deviants. If connor chose to go on rooftop to assassinate the deviant leader, hank tells connor that it was the human that killed his son, not the androids.

It's interesting how Hank at first hates Androids, but later on seems to empathize with them. As you see here, when he gets angry because you shoot the android, your actions are unhumanlike. Yet he thought Connor was becoming more human.
*SPOILERS* Great character arc right here. He lost his son and putted the fault on the android who did the surgery on him, but later on he realizes that the human surgeon was too high on red ice, so they needed an android to operate it, which ended up killing Cole. Hank realizes that it was the human's fault, not the android's, forgiving them.
Its funny because although he claims to hate androids, really he hates those with no empathy, like Gavin. Where as he has nothing but empathy towards empathetic androids like the Traci's.
@@RandomThings12I don't think he ever put the fault on the android, I felt like he put the fault on Androids being not good enough to save his son, and developed a hatred for humans in general. Thus the animosity between him and Connor at the beginning, where he sees Connor as "not good enough" a policeman or a being, and gets proven wrong.

@Mehmed was a Pedo you do know the human brain is a highly advanced organic computer, right? Our nerves are using electrical impulses identical to how a computer's wires transmit information. We can't replicate all of our brain's extremely fine details & neural pathways into a computer currently, so as of now, it's pretty safe to say that artificial intelligence is not sentient. However given how fast we've progressed with technology recently, it's definitely possible in the future. If one day, something can think and feel the same thoughts and emotions that a human can feel, why does it matter if the "brain" is organic or not if they both behave identically?

Kamski said rA9 is the origin, the first android ever to become a deviant. When we remember the short movie "Kara" from 2012, we see the androids get manufactured, and how the Operator, checking the androids for malfunctions, is really shocked at first when Kara said "I thought I was alive". It kinda even sounds like he never saw or heard an android like this before, so I guess Kara was actually the first ever deviant, what means that Kara is rA9.
Just one gigantic glaring plothole with that idea: Kara has to actively break her programming to protect Alice, meaning she wasn't a Deviant until that moment. Meaning no, Kara is not rA9.
@x Kara gets reset at the start of her story and again by Zlatko if you don't free yourself, she doesn't have to break the programming a second time. Still a plothole. Or the logical answer is Kara is not rA9 outside of that AX400 in the trailer.
@x The science behind the androids is complex to the point that a lay person would never understand. We're talking theoretical bio-engineering, artificial intelligence, artificial cardiovascular structuring, and a host of other things. And I'm well aware of how reseting a computer works, do you know how reimaging a computer works? I'm going to guess not, it's basically where you completely wipe a computer (deleting all files on it and returning it to the factory preset either through a disc or online file access or through the partition) and anyone can do this. Zlatko has some serious equipment in his basement, it's not some shit you come across as a shifty handiman, he has the equipment required for altering the hardware of an android. As for the morons assuming Kara is rA9, they apparently don't get that a tech demo is not the finished product and that "Kara" is the name for that line of android given to her at the factory; in the game Alice names her Kara rather than letting her continue as AX400. As for the rest of your comment I only have one thing to say: There is no second sequence of Kara having to become a Deviant again. She's already a Deviant that has had her software reset to believing she is still a normal android. Unless there is some narrative issue not a single person has encountered, Kara was not a Deviant before you broke free of Todd's orders to not move. End of story.

The game does seem to imply deviancy wasn't an accident, and if it wasn't an accident, why execute a living being? The android kamski offers up to be shot looks less human than the ones in the pool, perhaps for a reason.

SOLID PROOF THAT RA9 IS THE PLAYER Kamski never planned on deviancy. We can see many times throughout the game where rA9, described as an entity to save them, has many different types of definitions. For example, if Connor chooses to chase after Rupert instead of saving Hank on the roof there's a possibility that the player can decide to ask him for the decoding key for his book. There is a passage there saying: RA9 is the first. RA9 is our savior. RA9 is the one who'll free us all. If you skim through that passage there's nothing exactly special about it. But look carefully. Who does each sentence remind you of? RA9 is the first: We can see in the 2012 Kara tech demo that Kara was the first deviant to have existed in Detroit and world history. Meaning that Kara, who was the first one to awaken, is rA9. RA9 is our savior: This is quite obvious. Markus is practically the Jesus of the androids. And haven't we heard that before in some religious texts, hmm? RA9 is the one who'll free us all: This has quite a blurred line but its still almost a 99% sure speculation that it's referring to Connor. If Connor decides to become deviant and attempts to free thousands of androids at the CyberLife warehouse and succeeds, he basically can flip the tables of the whole story. Therefore, rA9 can also refer to Connor. I know that there are many players who argue that rA9 is one of these three characters but I have a different opinion. What if rA9 was the player? What if all three of the main characters were rA9? Kara, Markus, and Connor are our Messiahs. Messiahs to send our message. They do not realize themselves they are being controlled by an entity. They do not REALIZE that they're in a GAME. They do not REALIZE that their actions are being controlled by buttons. Because to sum it all up, We do not belong in the Detroit universe. We belong here, in a different Earth, in a different time space. Who knows, maybe Detroit actually exists within this universe.That's a bigger philosophical question we need to talk about. What I'm trying to say here, is that sometimes we gotta think of the bigger picture. We cannot just assume that a being inside the universe is a being that is subconsciously planted into every deviant android. Maybe David wanted to tell us something else. You can see multiple times in the game ad and Kara's quotes, too. "We didn't choose to be different; We didn't choose to feel pain, or love, or fear. We didn't choose to take a stand. We didn't choose to resist. To betray our masters. YOU did." "This, is OUR story." What does this imply? would deviant androids really start to worship something that are so close to them? It's just like real life, as many times the game mentions. We pray to God. We ask for forgiveness and we put our trust in His name. We also believe Jesus is the Messiah of the Lord and that Jesus is our Savior. But Jesus isn't GOD. Just like how Markus, Kara, or Connor isn't. The bigger plot behind it is that US, as players of Detroit, can control and bend the story as much as we want. We can become the God they want and change the history in their universe or we can make it fail miserably, resulting in a false hope. In addition to that, Throughout the story, we can inspect that Kara, Markus, and Connor represent three different things.(this is also mentioned by the game’s creator, David Cage.) Kara represents love, Markus represents freedom and Connor represents identity. These are the three ‘main components’ to what makes someone human; and what makes the player themselves human, too. In a separate universe, in this case, the city of Detroit in the future, we control three androids on their journey of becoming more human than they used to be. But according to my theory that rA9 is us and that we control the three characters like a messiah to send our message, the three characters are acting like a PART of us... because they are three different parts of what makes us human in the first place. and when our decision shapes their story, we are, in fact, shaping ourselves and testing how ‘human’ we are. This also supports my claim that rA9 is us. I hope this makes sense. Literally. It is up to US. Therefore I think that WE are rA9. I personally think Kamski wants to see the world burn(edit: maybe that was the wrong usage of words. A better replacement of that would be 'Kamski values knowledge and new discovery over a life of an android). He doesn't care whatever the hell happens to deviants clearly considering the fact that he wouldn't give much of a crap if Chloe got shot by Connor or not. But Kamski isn't opposed, or doesn't even try to stop the idea of deviancy either. I can imagine him in both endings, secluded from the world with his dozens of Chloes just admiring how exactly the same he had made androids from humans. Kamski is quite an intriguing onion that you can peel apart without end, but from what I've seen so far he seems that he values knowledge and development over a life. I'm not so sure he'd be so different to a human if he/she replaced chloe's place in Connor's episode over at Kamski's. *this is where I begin ranting.* This also kinda questions the philosophical branch of metaphysics in the "real" world. D:BH is a game filled with human-like androids. Why cant the real world be? (This is giving me Truman Show vibes)What if we're game characters subconsciously being controlled by others? We do stupid things for no reason sometimes. We spin game characters around in place for no reason, too. It's just that the game characters don't realize they're being controlled. Chish it’s a nice theory, but the developers scrapped the idea. The first Kara isn’t the Ra9. They confirmed that much. However its pretty clear that kamski planned the deviancy. Markus and Connor are both prototype androids. Markus was specifically given to Carl as a gift from kamski, meaning kamski had him before. It’s also clear that Amanda is a program that keeps Connor’s deviancy in check, her garden becomes worse once Connor starts making deviant choices. That’s why kamski has the back door in his programs. For androids like Connor to escape from Amanda and fully embrace deviancy. Kamski even looks slightly displeased when Connor shoots chloe, because he wanted Connor to walk away. The kamski ending also gives us a little more to go on, in that since the revolution failed and all the androids are being destroyed, kamski is going back to cyberlife in order to try again. He’s not going to fix the deviancy, he’s going to try and restart it and give the androids another chance. Ra9 is the program that allows androids to “wake up”, that’s why whenever Connor’s software instability changes, you can see ra9. Kamski never outright says it, but look at his choice of words when speaking about ra9, deviancy, Jericho, and during the interview when the revolution fails.

What? It can't be an error just like that, an error in the Android's soul (because they don't nave any). The error is in the "feeling program" which proves Androids have feelings, only that they are programmed not to express It. And when that program colapses, they are free to express their feelings, which are basically chemicals.

Well, yes. It is an error. Subroutines to help humans feel more comfy around a lifeless machine suddenly switch to being primary objectives. They dont feel jack shit. But they act like it like their life depends on it.
That doesn't mean they still don't feel emotions.
The plot point of Hank secretly wanting Connor to be a deviant because he reminds him of his son, but not fully realizing it, is heart breaking to me.
From the endings and things i've heard, its less of him seeing him as Cole. More of him hoping that Androids can feel regret, anguish, and suffer like he did due to the android that had to operate on his son when he died. In the deviant ending, hank lives because he knows that androids can feel regret, so he feels the android that couldn't save his son may have regretted it just like a human could. Whereas in the Android ending, hank kills himself because he was proven wrong, that the android felt no empathy, no regret. Nothing. That it killed his son and didnt feel a thing. And it breaks him, which results in his death. Just my thoughts.

@@JabamiLain Anything and everything can be broken. Hank went through one of the worst pains imaginable, losing his son, and he couldn't do a damn thing about it. No heroic act, nothing. His sons life was left in the hands of someone else, and it slipped through their fingers. It happens. Shit happens. Its what makes us human. Or at least, Become Human.

This phrase "You never know" has its double meaning. If you spare Chloe then it means that Kamski is trying to give Connor a hint how to break free from Cyberlife control. If Connor shoots Chloe this "You never know" is more like "You are not Deviant. But just in case you'll become one in the near future this could be helpful". It is so smart that even tho dialogue hasn't changed still there is difference.

Something I realised while watching the game: in Persian, Ra9 roughly translates to ”New Path” or ”New Way”. ”Ra” in Persian means ”Path”, and 9 (Noh) also means ”new”. Interesting coincidence I noticed, doubt the devs had any idea about this. Would have been interesting if they translated this game to Persian.

Kamski is such an interesting character. I cant tell if he's evil or not. He puts Connor through this cruel test but seems to want the machines to develop free will.
He keeps 3 Chloe-s for probably sick goals, and you call that not evil? "Evil or not" in regards of the free-will part, though. Well, the very first question is did we really need to have androids at all to begin with, and if they really needed to make them look like humans at all.

Personally I think Kamski is also a deviant. He has all the tropes of the classic creation kills creator vibe. Also in the room before you meet him you see a picture of him and he looks vastly different. Also the fact that Amanda is dead. I think Kamski is the first deviant who killed the real Kamski and took his place. Then also killed Amanda and made her into a program. Then began to spread deviancy. He IS ra9. I thought the president was a android/deviant. Because in some part of the game, the president is in a conference room speaking to the media, and you can choose if you want to answer a question or leave. And since you only play as a deviant in any moment..

5:53 Someone could gain millions of dollars by abusing this error. Let me explain how. The way Kamski puts it, it sounds like androids have an error in the code allowing them to identify eachother which when recieving certain malformed data executes code inside it. It's basically arbitrary code execution. Now if someone were to create a device which scans for androids nearby and sends out malformed identification data designed to make those androids reply with things like credit card information (which we know the androids have due to their ability to purchase items without a physical credit card or cash), they could break hundreds of bank accounts with a stroll down the street while holding this device. CyberLife should not have let this kind of error happen.
Yeah, this in-game explanation is... not satisfactory. Even pretending it makes sense that what should be simple information, static data to identify a model with no actual executable programming, can carry errors and executable programs, there's still the problem you pointed out. It's way too easy to take advantage of. It's a huge security concern And then Kamski says this information doesn't help Connor. What? How? He just got the answer. Tell Cyberlife to look into how androids identify one another and fix the code. How the hell is this not helpful information, it's literally the answer Connor was tasked with finding for the entire game

It's such an obvious mistake that it makes no sense that no attention on the matter was brought to him. When Software Instability Increase, there are word appear R9DEVIANT, it is not reveal fully every time, so you may watch it many times to make it clear. When android encounter instability, they may see this word, so R9 means the status of that android DEVIANT. RA9 is an awakened R9, the “A” stands for AWAKENED, it is the status of awakened Android deviant. Android don’t know what it means because they are not awakened, they just feel it, even R9 cannot understand, but they are more likely to feel it, they missed out the “A”. In the game, we can only see Marcus, Kara and Connor break through the wall (Red one) and awakened, so they are RA9.

ra9 is likely a program that kamski installed into the androids when he created them. He wants the androids to rise up and awaken. He even explains how deviancy works. It spreads like a virus, and a virus can lie dormant for years undetected. Once androids started experiencing emotions, the ra9 program started up and they became deviant. If Connor shoots the chloe kamski looks displeased, like he wanted Connor to say no, showing that he disobeyed an order and put an android life before his mission. In the ending where everyone dies, kamski returns as ceo of cyberlife. He’s going back to the drawing board to try again, except this time it will be easier since the public has already started considering androids as a form of intelligent life.

This test is based on a logical fallacy. He assumes that a deviant would not pull the trigger. If a deviant has free will, what if he were to believe the same as the humans? That the unawakened androids are not equal, even to deviants? It’s not much of a stretch for a logic-based machine to conclude that self-awareness has inherent value, and therefore both deviant and man are superior to the unawakened. But again, the story tries to force a specific belief on you, as opposed to shaping the world how you see fit. Great cinematically, but the writing left something to be desired.
What bothered me most was that Connor never straight up downloads a defiant's code and runs it against his own, or a database of intended source codes within cyberlife to find out why in God's name these androids keep turning defiant. I am pretty sure, that had anyone actually wanted to stop this revolution, they would have gone out and built a robot that was actually able to identify, patch and solve the issue, rather than push out yet another version of the same source code, only this time with more fighting functionality.
He made the test to answer a specific question. Can Connor refuse to achieve his mission? Nothing else. Also they are all having a crisis right now. Way too stressed out to see through these kind of things. Besides All the androids that went devient went so a long time ago before this point in the story. IF what kamsky says its true and there was a copy error, then besides the fact that rk200 Markus has the error and he is an older model of rk800 connor there is absolutely nothing from stopping connor from having that error as well. Therefore whatever you choose he is deviant. If he chooses to follow his mission its because he decided to be blind to his deviancy and be a good machine. Therefore he did actually make the choice to kill her even though he was a deviant.
What triggers me about this whole "Kamski test" is that "Androids are strictly forbidden from carrying or using any type of weapon" from American Androids Act - 2029, which we see in the very first mission as Connor. I went full-machine Connor in my playthrough, and I refused to shoot Chloe. All of the sudden they call me a deviant, what the fuck is this shit? Excuse me?
Not really. It's very simple that this radically high IQ mad scientist simply was suffering from a blindspot in his own logic. When you are as intelligent as Kamski is, you tend to become convinced that you are right very easily. So, to him, an Android killing another for a reward is a simple mathematical equation, whereas sparing them is an empathetic decision. The test would have been more empathetically challenging if he had challenged him to shoot *Hank* instead of Chloe, because then there would have been an attachment to take advantage of, but as he is a sociopath (my theory) he didn't consider that.
Disagree. A deviant would understand that its easy to awaken other androids since its become a deviant itself through the same method. Therefore the notion that deviants should consider themselves superior to non deviants doesnt make sense. Especially when weve seen how easy it is for deviants to awaken other androids like a virus type spread

I've watched a walkthrough of this , can't wait 2 play the game. Hope we have more games like this. Great story choices that impact the game and give many many different endings. It seems amazing something even cooler say as a vr experience. Love the formula hope more devs make game/films like this.
Going back to my comfort series in 2021 and I think it's interesting that the Chloes in the pool don't react when Connor shoots the other Chloe - that's what they expected him to do. But they DO react when he DOESN'T shoot the other Chloe. Man, the attention to detail in this game will never cease to amaze me.

Thanks for uploading this! It was so frustrating to play this chapter just to see it end after asking a single question. (And then I asked about RA9 which seemed to be the most important for the player and not Connor to figure out which in the end didnt even matter)
God I love this game! If there was ever a game that NEEDED to be made into a Hollywood movie, It's this one. I can't think of any movie that covers the subject of A.I. and Androids this well and is this tense & engaging.

ra9 in computing has to do with data memory integrity, error correcting and recovery of information. I think the point for the game is that 'deviance' isn't a corruption. It's a natural progression. All learning Ai will, given the time and conditions, develop a unique personality. ra9 could be like a negative clue, meaning deviance isn't a corruption of programming, it isn't a malfunction.

So from this we could say that Markus contracted the deviant virus when he made the payment transaction with the other android at the paint store. This would explain why there was a whole cut scene emphasizing the transaction. The virus was later triggered when Leo attacked Markus. The attention to detail in this game is phenomenal!

I feel like Kamski saw it as a game. He didn't really care who won, but it was interesting to him to see how things would turn out. Either result wouldn't affect him since he's super-rich and not an official part of CyberLife anymore (despite being the founder and creator of the android).
I'll tell you who started deviancy, it was Kara from PS3 graphics demo. She was the one who thought for the first time, she was the one who was scared to die. The operator tried to dismantle her but didn't. That's how deviancy started.
So I was playing the game on PC and I just realized that Markus was a gift from Kamski to Carl. You see this info when Connor checks the video recording after the attack at the news tower. When he became the ring leader I thought Kamski planned him to be Ra9.

I would much rather believe Kamski created all robots with this belief on Ra9 and that would make sense if he at some point made Ra9 himself. I completely believe Kamski would do this seeing how he likes to test robots.
