About the fight:
A UFC Welterweight Championship bout between the current champion Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns is expected to headline UFC 258 on February 14 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The duo was previously scheduled to meet in July of 2020 at UFC 251. However, it was announced on July 3 that Burns was pulled from the contest after he and his coach, Greg Jones, tested positive for COVID-19. They were also briefly targeted to headline UFC 256, but Usman pulled out citing more time needed to recover from undisclosed injuries.
About Usman:
Riding a nine-fight winning streak in the UFC, Usman next faced UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley on March 2, 2019, in the co-main event at UFC 235. He won the one-sided fight via unanimous decision after dominating his opponent for five rounds to be crowned as the new UFC Welterweight Champion.
Usman made his first title defense and faced long-time rival Colby Covington at UFC 245 on December 14, 2019. Despite both athletes being mostly offensive wrestlers, the fight did not include any grappling and contained high-paced offense in the striking instead. After an often referred to as "slugfest", Usman was able to knockdown his opponent twice before finishing him with strikes in the fifth round to be declared the winner via technical knockout, which set the record for the latest finish in UFC welterweight history. This fight earned both participants the Fight of the Night award.
Usman was scheduled to defend his title for the second time against Gilbert Burns on July 12, 2020 at UFC 251. Both being originally from the same camp (Sanford MMA) Usman opted to train under Trevor Wittman heading into the fight. On July 3, 2020, it was revealed that Burns tested positive for COVID-19, and he was subsequently removed from the card. On July 5, 2020, it was reported that Jorge Masvidal had stepped in on short notice and served as a replacement for Burns. Usman controlled most of the fight by keeping Masvidal in the clinch, winning via unanimous decision.
About Gilbert Burns:
Burns was expected to face returning veteran Eric Wisely on April 27, 2019 at UFC Fight Night: Jacaré vs. Hermansson. However, it was reported on April 18 that Wisely pulled out of the bout, citing injury. He was replaced by newcomer Mike Davis. Burns won the fight via rear-naked choke submission in the second round.
Burns returned to the welterweight facing Alexey Kunchenko on August 10, 2019 at UFC on ESPN+ 14, replacing injured Laureano Staropoli. He won the fight via unanimous decision, marking Kunchenko’s first loss in his career. Burns stepped in as a late replacement to face Gunnar Nelson, on September 28, 2019 at UFC on ESPN+ 18. He won the fight via unanimous decision.
As the first fight of his new, four-fight contract, Burns faced Demian Maia on March 14, 2020 at UFC Fight Night 170. He won the fight via technical knockout in round one. This win earned him the Performance of the Night award.
Burns faced Tyron Woodley on May 30, 2020 in the main event of UFC on ESPN: Woodley vs. Burns. After knocking Woodley down in the first round and mostly dominating the former champion throughout the fight, Burns won the fight via unanimous decision. This win also earned him his fourth Performance of the Night award.

The co-main event is a rematch between Uriah Hall and former middleweight champion Chris Weidman.
The rest of the main card is filled with fantastic fights as we get to see the bantamweight rematch between Pedro Munhoz and Jimmie Rivera, a middleweight bout between Kelvin Gastelum and Ian Heinisch, and the women’s flyweight bout between Maycee Barber and Alexa Grasso.
