My wife Abigail and I celebrated our first year wedding anniversary at Balesin and as expected, the place was grand and exclusive - perfect for rest and relaxation . We got to take in great scenery, great food, and spent time with our closest and most loved family friends, the Arenals and the Misticas.
Our Review: Food-wise, our favorite village by far was Toscana, the Italy-themed experience. The pizza was homely and perfectly-seasoned. The most visually pleasing place for me was Mykonos, and for Abigail, it was Costa del Sol. We didn't avail of the tour as we wanted to explore the island at our leisure. There was very limited Internet access, but it was understandable for a place where you go to disconnect from a perpetually-connected world.
I wanted to bring my Eskrima sticks and training blades, but I didn't want to risk any drama at the airport. I didn't want to ruin an ideal weekend getaway!

    • Thank you so much for the continued support, brother! Balesin Island is one of the best resorts in the country, along with Sunlight Ecotourism island resort in my opinion. You and your wide will definitely enjoy these hideaway spots!

    • @@bladesociety Cool! Sounds great! I've been taking PTK classes twice a week for about 2 months so far. No other options here and my EKT stuff didn't work out retaining students or a place to train. Is Gerald Pilapil still around or what?

    • @@MaharlikaAWA He's still around. Just haven't seen in for years since I haven't been staying in Manila for so long. How have you been finding your PTK classes?

    • @@bladesociety So far the classes are okay. The teacher is a good guy and I enjoy training. I did however find learning the drills, patterns etc difficult and annoying at first. Like it made no sense, but once I understood them I got pretty good at them. I just need to understand one by one and progress from there to learn. Too much info overloads me and makes my brain check out. I do kind of dislike the PTK footwork and find it annoying. or pointless or counter productive. I prefer the normal way to move like a boxer and "fencer" and what Gerald taught me with V stepping (AKA triangle stuff). I don't like their broken footwork and I do not see a point. I don't believe I would actually use it in a fight ever. I just do it because that is the style and it's part of their system. I hope to get ranked up and get really good. The footwork is okay t learn and it helps with foot and brain coordination and also using arms at the same time. So I am open minded and just doing it. It could benefit me anyway to know more than one way of moving. I am not a fan of their long staff work. But maybe I could have my mind changed over time. Also PTK has too much politics, rivalries within their group, separate PTK rival groups and th e grandmaster seems crazy. The Gajae guy in Philippines seems really bizarre. I am under the lineage of Tim Wade with my instructor. He seems all right. I am open minded about training and I figure it helpsme keep my skills up. I do like my instructor and he is cool. Check out his channel. I'll post a link. Not sure if youtube will allow it. I would rather just talk to you over telegram or signal or something.

    • It is good Gerald is still alive and kicking. Hope he does well. I wonder how many students he has. I also hope one day to return and train RRK eventually or some other obscure FMA style. If I ever get good enough to be an official guro I would not want to join in the PTK politics and crazy people. I would probably do my own thing or represent Gerald's style if he would bless it. Or just do my own style mixing everything I know but hopefully become guro in another style as well.
