Ninh explains, the Rules of PBR Professional Bull Riding - the most dangerous 8 seconds in sports! Slight mistake in the video - the riders just hold onto the rope, not the flank strap. Other than that - it's the same.
Ninh Ly hell yeah!!! You should do steer wrestling now!
Nah you messed up right at the begining saying they try to ride as long as possible but it just 8 seconds
Check out my brothers account beyond gaming
Just recently started watching PBR. Watched a video of an event in 2017 and after dismounting a rider ran to press a red buzzer. Can someone explain what that is please?
So one day in America some dude looked at some bulls trying to get stuff off their backs and was like "I bet you 5 shots you can't ride that thing for more than 8 Mississipis"
This is a really good beginning explanation! I just wanna add some things (I know some of these have been said below, but I wanted to make one cumulative list in case anyone wanted more information). 1) As Ninh posted, the flank strap is tied down by the bull’s hind legs (or “flank”) and that is what makes the bull kick. No, there is no involvement of the bull’s bits as some people will try to tell you. That’s anatomically impossible. The bull rider will hold on to his bull rope. 2) The main goal is to stay on the bull for eight seconds. Once the bull rider has accomplished that, they get off as safely as possible. There are no points given for dismount style, but some cowboys have their own signature dismount. 3) The cowboy doesn’t get to pick his bull. There is a draw before the event. Some rodeos allow the cowboy to draw his own out of a hat or something similar, some rodeos assign cowboy to bull by a randomized program (usually the bigger rodeos). 4) Bull fighters are usually not rodeo clowns, but rodeo clowns are usually bull fighters. A bull fighter is not there to make the crowd laugh. They are there to jump in front of that bull after the bull rider’s dismount. Whereas a rodeo clown is usually a trained bull fighter that puts more emphasis on entertaining. 5) some more words that may just be interesting/useful to know are rosin (a sticky resin used on gloves and bull ropes to maintain grip), rank (adjective describing a particularly well performing bull), and go-round, short-go, and aggregate (go-round is an individual score, short-go is the final round of scoring, and aggregate is the culmination of those scores). 6) when spurring, there’s a term called toes out which is holding the feet at a 90° angle to the bull which helps score higher for spurring. 7) I think this was already mentioned in the video, but score is out of 100 and can only get scored if there’s an eight second ride. 50 points can come from the bull and 50 from the bull rider. Two judges score the bull and bull rider and then average those scores. 8) A bull rider can become disqualified if his free arm touches any part of himself or the bull, including his other arm or his hat (which are the most common) If you think of anything else a beginner may want/need to know, add it below!!
Thanks.
Ninh Ly no Problem 😊
@@Basketball0270 we should mention that there are American style ropes and Brazilian style ropes
This sport just got more interesting now that I know the rules. Let a lone that they have rules.
There's not many rules, but yeah - Bull Riding is great.
Ninh Ly you should come down to Dallas one day and check out the Iron Cowboy PBR event at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium. It is bad ass.
Mad respect to the bullfighter at 2:52 for jumping right infront of a bull to save the rider
Absolutely! What a guy!
i think that was shorty. he is a bull fighter for the PBR you can watch a video or two of just that team of bull fighters taking hits. as it is there job to protect the rider the bulls in the PBR are much more dangerous then just a bull at a local rodeo. but it was quite the save
Actually a far more entertaining sport than you might imagine.
Branching out, eh? just throwing this out there: there are a lot of forms of auto racing with various rules/tactics/techniques/etc, if you ever get short on video topics :P
I always wanted to do one about Bull Riding given that it's extremely popular and televised. I didn't actually think that I was branching out that much really? I'm not short on topics, but motor racing is one I'm keen to avoid because most of the time they change the rules regularly. Especially F1.
I just thought branching out because it was all stick and ball sports, and now fencing and this. wasn't complaining, this is very interesting, just an observation. Fair point about the rule changes, especially since F1 is under new management
I honestly didn't think you were complaining! The sports I've got on list are varied, but they're all popular enough sports to warrant making videos of. I think I covered the vast majority of them in my previous batch of videos. And yes, F1 ... I don't even want to begin about those rules ... they change so much that I don't know what they are anymore! NASCAR as well, they changed to a mutli-race race recently.
Ninh Ly As someone who is also a die hard motorsport fan that watches just about everything, I'd love to see video on a few forms or series'. However I have to agree, rules are constintely changed so it is kinda redundant in a way.
it would have to be some of the lower series if anything - autocross, karts, figure 8 might be interesting, but then he'd be full of comments asking for sprint cup and f1 :P
Me: sees title... Also me: Are there rules?
Apparently so, yeah.
How many judges are there
@@ianjohnson3840 2-4 judges.
Ninh, I'm glad to see you're in a better place and these sports and your life coaching videos are all of substance. I am a happy consumer and will continue to watch. Thank you for the content.
Cheers Chris! Yeah I'm a lot better, and even though the self-help isn't as popular as I'd imagined it to be - I'm sure all it takes is time. I appreciate the comments man, thanks very much! :)
Awesome video for the the beginning viewer. I saw an event recently and was in awe. Thank you!
anyone else hear ken's theme from street fighter 5 in the backround?
Yes, well spotted!
Thanks!
Very impressive on these videos! Especially those few last videos on sumo wrestling and fencing.
Thanks! The last few have been fun to make for sure. :)
Thank you for doing this! Best one on KZhead to this day ✌🏼
I see Bull riding in the Colliseum of Stockyards, Forth Wort, Texas. Nice place. BPR are popular in Brazil. In Argentina we have "jinetada". But we use horses, they jump more higher and move more faster. It's not better, it's just different. Great job man.
Thanks man! I've actually been to the Fort Worth Stockyards, but there were no events when I went. Shame, because it would have been cool.
I love PBR. The shear insanity of it.
Hell yeah, it's pretty awesome! Sometimes, watching the bullfighters get clobbered trying to protect the rider is half the fun!
kzhead.info/sun/i9OHgJhxopacrJ8/bejne.html
Nice use of the "Street Fighter II" music!
Well spotted - it's Ken's theme from Street Fighter V!
yeah ill vote for pesapollo too. just watched a few rounds and have zero idea what the heck is going on. :)
All depends if I can find the footage ... and work out how it's played myself.
This was a great video
Good video, keep it up
Thanks bro, much appreciated!
Thank you!
They don't try to stay on as long as possible. When they reach 8 seconds, they jump off and they're only judged on the 8 seconds.
You're splitting hairs bro.
I'd love to see a Pesäpallo (Finnish Baseball) video. It's the one sport I've ever watched, and haven't sort of picked up the rules. It seems absolutely alien to me.
Whilst I'd love to make one ... it involves understanding it myself! It's one of the few sports that confuses the hell out of me and there are no real English guides out there to help me out with. I'm sure once I understand it, a video will come by shortly. But until then, you're sadly on your own!
Ninh Ly haha, I'm kind of glad to hear you say this. I thought I was just personally unobservant.
Ah don't think that way - you're not the only one! Even a sports junkie like me can't understand how Finland mangled Baseball into something that looks like baseball, but doesn't play anything like it! :)
Me too, makes no sense. I'd like to see that in a video
Very good :)
Thanks for stopping by bro. Check out my channel for more like this :)
Can the next sports video be a quick explanation of all archery sports?
Funnily enough, I've written a script about Indoor/Outdoor Archery, but just not had the time to actually make it. It should come along fairly soon (i.e. within the next few weeks) as it's one of the easier ones to make. Really pressed for time over the next few weeks
Good video. Their are a few things wrong though: The rope that the rider holds on to isn’t the flank strap it’s a bull rope the flank strap is the rope tied around the bulls waist. Other then that it’s all pretty correct. Will you be doing the other 7 rodeo events such as calf roping or steer wrestling?
Hey bro. Yes, that was a mistake on my part - I mentioned this in the top comment. I don't think the other events are anywhere near as popular, I'm sure if I get enough demand for it - I'll make them. But honestly? I don't see it. Thanks for stopping by :)
You should check out Jallikattu. I doubt you would have enough material to make a video but just thought of putting it out here.
Nah, sorry.
🐂 Thank You!
Cool, glad you found this useful. Check out my channel for more like this :)
a few other mishaps in this video's explanation of bull riding: there are at least 2 judges, and each judge has a total of 50 pts. of that 50, the horse or bull is scored 1-25 and the rider the other 1-25. (same with the other judge , and both judges scores are added together for a combined score.) staying on longer than 8 seconds doesn't do anything for the rider other than get him in trouble. (with good, rank stock , you don't find folks being able to hang around for photo opps.) no extra pts for staying on longer than an 8 second ride. next, a wreck in cowboy lingo, is simply "one hell-of-a-crash."
They're not mishaps, but I've generalised the process so that complete beginners have a rough understanding on how it's scored and the purpose of the sport. Obviously staying on the bull for longer than 8 seconds doesn't do anything so it's self implied that they get off at this point.
Holds on by “the Flank strap”😂😂
Why do the bull jumps/twists etc…? Is it a natural thing or do they do something to the animals?
Hey while we doing Rodeo can u do bronc riding saddle and bareback
Ummm ....
The flank is not a bull rope, they are two different things, the flank is the little strap by the bulls hind legs.
I saw a video whereby a bull rider used both arms and wasn’t disqualified. How was that possible? You can only use one arm for bull riding right?
The flank strap makes the bull buck but the thing that the bullrider hangs onto is called a bullrope
Please refer to the comment pinned at the top of the comments section.
Wyatt Mulder Vlogs I am a bull rider and I came down to the comments to see if anyone actually caught on to that lmao
@@loganterry9869 I did
Yep, after seeing your video about the calcio storico, I don't even found this PBR dangerous.

It's awesome, huh?!
Other than the obvious are there any differences between this and Bronco riding?
Great video keep it up one day you will be in a race for the top KZheadr and I never knew that kept a bull score
Thanks! I would be cool to be top KZheadr, but that's going to take some doing. Yes, bulls are scored so that they can rank the bulls - they even win awards at the end of the season :)
@zuroslav; in rodeo, it's determined what bucking horse, bull, they ride, calf, or steer is roped or dogged on what's called "a draw". the draw is a random process (now often done with computers) that randomly assigns the animal to the contestant. in the old days, and still sometimes today, various stock numbers representing bucking bulls or horses are placed in a hat. the hat is held high by an individual at the rodeo office, and the contestant reaches up and blindly picks a number out of that hat. that number will be his assigned animal. this is where the old saying, "the luck of the draw" came from.
Interesting facts.
just for the record, i wasn't writing to be overly critical. i 've lived this lifestyle and possess first hand experience.
I understand. I was just clarifying my position that sometimes I have to over-generalise rules for the sake of getting a complete beginner to understand. We're cool.
I was hoping you would explain how the rider can score extra points by spurring
Something tells me having a good grip helps a little in the event.
Yes.
Everyone watching this video: Oh ok, these are the rules. Me: *GO GO POWER RANGERS!*
Okay then.
2:56 KO
How fitting for the Reno Rodeo.
I didn't even know that was on right now. But cool, thanks! :)
Ninh Ly got the music right this time, because all the bull does is spam Ken's AJAKJAKCUCKJAAKKJAK
Ummm, sure.
Wonder if they serve pbr at a pbr competition
I'm not sure about that?
Can you make a video on Indian version "JELLIKETTU"
I don't know what that is?
@@NinhLyUK well, it is a type of bull involved sport Search on KZhead . It is very intersting
How do they decide which cowboy rides which bull ?
Not sure about this one, but I think they rank competitors and rank bulls. The highest ranked riders get choice over which bulls they get to ride.
Rider draw to see which bull they get.
It's random draw, smaller events with put bull numbers in a hat and you draw the bull you get. In some bigger events it's a computerized randomizer. In bigger events they have a Calcutta, which means you can pick the bull you ride in the championship round
could someone please tell me why after every bull ride, the bull returns to the caged enclosure voluntarily?? Shouldn't the bull actually be interested in getting out of captivity?
I think they get coerced with shouting and food.
The flank is the rope on the back next to the butt the rope they hold on to is a bull rope I own bulls
Read the top comment.
Go Bull!
Fair enough.
It’s called a bull rope not a flank strap, the flank strap or flank rope is what’s tied around the bulls lower stomach kind of like where a belt would sit on a person. You ride by hanging on to your bull rope. The flank rope is what makes the bull kick
RRead the top comment dude.

am i the only one who finds it funny when the ride goes wrong
I think people like when it all goes wrong. So long as the rider's aren't seriously hurt, then that's cool. They even have Top 10 Wrecks highlight shows for this thing. Look it up on KZhead - there's some nasty ones.
The rules of Arnis

your a lair no one just try's this sport to try it these guys have been riding there whole lives and get the shit knocked out of them I should know I know mason Lowe and he is basically my neighbor he has had more injuries in his short career then most get in there 12 year plus career In short terms your a dumbass who knows nothing if you think bull riding is a sport people just try to try it
how do they get the bulls
I believe that they breed them specifically to do this. The most athletic and agressive bulls are used to give riders a hard time! :)
They're bred specifically to do this. They're also treated like real athletes too. these animals are really well taken care of with around the clock check ups. Also sometimes the owners of the bulls will show up and root for the bull to buck the cowboy off. All in all a very fascinating sport!
Totally agreed!
theSNAKEdocta so, the bull is selected by the athelete's team, not the judges/committee?
Stock contractors ring the bulls the stock director asks for. The bulls are specifically bred for this, just like a race horse. Base genes are usually brahma Mexican fighting bull cross, although they can add certain other types as well.
I appreciate the Super Smash Bros. music... 👍
Actually, it's Ken's theme from Street Fighter V. Nice try though.
Was in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U ;)

The cowboy holds onto the bull rope not the flank strap the rider is only supposed to stay on for 8 seconds the bulls are not just bulls they are bucking bulls only used in bull riding
would you dare to explain the rules to do "castells"? The "Castellers" are what English spoken people call "human towers". They are many types of castles and all count points in competitions. Many roles inside the castle too. Although not a sport, requieres a hugue physical strenght, coordination and equilibrium.
I don't think I'm the right guy to explain something like that, but thanks for the suggestion!
I bet they get an additional point for riding with a cowboy hat rather than a helmet or something similar.

There are a lot of terms and “facts” that are incorrect throughout this video

What😂 the flank strap😂, you hold onto a thing called a bullrope, its a braided rope with a braided leather handle

Rodeo clowns the bravest referees in sports
Sadly they're not the referees. Their only job is to protect the rider once he's been wrecked.
Actually a rodeo clown and bull fighter are two different thing the clown entertains the fans between rides and the bullfighter you said what they do pretty much
Hmm... Bull rider on bull+bull fighter trying to get the bull to shake him off...
Makes sense to me.
in general, the bull fighters dont interfere, but occasionally, typically if the bull is not bucking, they can try to rile him up.
A flank strap is not what bull riders hold it is a bull rope. A flank strap goes on back end of a bull , the flank. Flank strap encourages the bull to kick out with his back legs ,and no it's not around their gentiles. Bull riders do not stay on as long as possible. This like saying QB in football will scramble as long as possible without sliding. Bull riders are judged on the ride which is 8 seconds. Any longer than that he risks endangering himself or the bull. Bull riders earn their money on rides. Stock contractors earn their money on that bull. So no one is wanting them to stay on long as possible. Just stating facts.
Read the top comment.
So those bulls are Professional, too. Born to kick human's butt.
Basically yes. They are bred to do this ... i.e. buck off riders.
They're bred to buck, not specifically to kick a riders ass. That's just an occupational hazard.

It's no crueller than riding horses playing polo. At least in this sport - they get to exact some form of revenge on their rider. And yes, I'd 100% absolutely give bull riding a go!
I've heard the use more docile bulls for beginners, and kids can even participate using calves
I think you're right. They use calves for kids and less aggressive ones for beginners. But the biggest, meanest & nastiest ones are in the PBR.
these bulls are treated better than some human athletes...if anything id say cowboy cruelty lol
Tell me how is it animal abuse
Seeing the guys fly off is kinda satisfying. Poor bull, he just pissed off, we all would be.

you only ride for 8 seconds and the "flank strap" is in the bulls flank you use a bull rope to hang on. please no one listen to this guy he made a video that is full of lies.
I did mention that the time is 8 seconds, but I did get the bit wrong about the flank strap which was explained in the top comment. But to dissuade people from watching the video because it's 'full of lies' is an erroneous sack of horseshit and you should be ashamed of yourself for posting such a hateful and misguided comment. Shame on you!
