Stromae is a singer-songwriter of Belgian-Rwandan origin. He became famous "overnight" in 2009 when the music manager of NJR aired his first single. In a matter of weeks the sales of the album rose to number one in Belgium, and by May 2010 it reached number one in several countries.
At TEDx Brussels he presented the procedure of the building up of his songs.

    • I'm French, and I noticed most French-speaking people are ashamed of their English. I don't really know why, it's the like the way we're taught English teaches us that we'll never be good at it and we should be ashamed of it o.o Or maybe it's just that we don't get to practice it a lot, since French is spoken in a lot of countries.

      @Silver7195@Silver71959 жыл бұрын
    • Petite Plume it is because english people spoke french for 500 years until the beginning of the 19th century; and still speaks it well enough. french people are just bad at english, so it is something to be a shamed of if the worst enemy you had had in history speaks your language better than the other way round :) btw I am french too :P

    • Lord Blubb I think it's just cause of the English teachers in France (Belgique too ? I don't know) , who are obsessed with "good pronunciation" - so lot of French people have learn English during ... maybe 10 years, and instead of have learn to speak, to be curious, to say what they want, what they like, what they think, they just heard they can't speak english cause they can't speak it "well", which means each years they learn the same things with the same french accent and hear this one is not "THE GOOD ONE", even if we all know that its a lie, 'cause there's no good one, there are lot of different accents around the world.

      @quai-du-regard@quai-du-regard9 жыл бұрын
    • It is mainly because english is not properly taught and learnt. Few efforts are made on both ways, there are no skilled english teachers (that have a degree or something in the language) until highschool, and a lot of students are not interested/ do not make efforts to dive in. And the french accent is terrible...

      @shawod3@shawod39 жыл бұрын
    • shawod3 What do you mean "the French accent is terrible" ??? Of course it is, and I'm sure the Chinese one is awesome, the Russian one is wonderful ... We've all grown up in a very specific place, I do really not understand what is the matter with French people or French accent ôO - My best english teacher was Irish and he has a wonderfull Irish accent, and he does a lot of mistakes when he speaks French... and he say "J'm'en fous" ("I don't give a fuck") like : "I'm not French, I don't want to speak like a French man, it has no sense - but when I have something to say, I say it, cause this has a sense"

    • Albert Hofmann maybe he doesn't speak English the whole time because he does not have to, I mean it clearly says tedex Brussels, which is in Belgium and their first language is French, therefore the language you should expect to hear is French, at least he was trying to speak a foreign language so that people from other countries could understand what he is saying. And Bill said it is good, he did not say your English is perfect. You try to speak French or Spanish or Russian or whatever in front of hundreds of people

  • It's true this isn't a lesson in hip hop --- but Stromae can rap though. When he first started out, a lot of his music was more like hip hop. Like "J'ai Pas C'Qu'il Faut". And more recently "Humain a l'eau". He mixes a lot of styles in his music including hip hop; but "Alors On Danse" is not the best example.
