Seth Hartz what's the point of alto sax and clarinet xd
@IndigosClothing6 жыл бұрын
its jxy To provide a deep, rich tone for the entire band because almost every instrument (except maybe mello and sousaphone) is very very bright, so the saxes and clarinets help balance it out. Every instrument serves a certain purpose otherwise it wouldn't be in the band in the first place.
@jjsully6785 жыл бұрын
Jalen Sullivan true because i play clarinet and i feel like it makes trumpets sound better
@IndigosClothing5 жыл бұрын
Jalen Sullivan are clarinet even playing loud all the way or doesn't sound like it
@IndigosClothing5 жыл бұрын
its jxy I'm not sure because the brass section always seem to play really loud. But they should because it's one of the most "softest" instruments. That's why almost every band wants around 13 clarinets in a band.
@jjsully6785 жыл бұрын
Just here to say that the girls aren't cheerleaders!!! They are majorette dancers that actually preform when it's halftime and also when the band is playing throughout the game, which is common in these type of bands and some others, these girls are almost always with the band, their part of the band (of course not in the instrument aspect) they are the fabulous southern university dancing dolls with 50 years of tradition!!!

@MelissaRodriguez-pp4yu8 жыл бұрын
+Rimenuir Lumfatnur I marched corps style in high school and then switched to show style when I went to an HBCU. There are things i enjoy about both, but marching show style was my absolute favorite. It was war on the field against the other band and people came to the games just to see the bands battle. Dancing and playing at the same time was something else I had to get use to doing. Choose a great HBCU with a great band program to get a TRUE HBCU band experience.

I am a proud Gramblinite. However, I must give credit to SU for this performance. I'm not alone based on the favorable reviews from Billboard Magazine on-line and USA Today! A diverse range of music and showmanship are what make all of our bands unique. Despite the unyielding loyalties to our respective schools, we celebrate individual and collective successes among our friendly rivals! So it is in the lyrical content of Adele's song that I commend "the Human Juke Box" and the entire SU Family by simply saying, "Hello from the other side...." (CDG GSU c/o '93)

Honestly this band is apart of the reason I fell in love with music, 1999 Southern Homecoming Parade I was 5 they stopped right in front of where I was standing on the road and did “No Trouble by C Loc” when I tell you it sounded exactly like the radio I had never heard music live before was completely blown away, forever grateful I got to experience that

People are coming in here making their comments about something they know nothing about if we wanted it to sound symphonic, that band is in the spring hence the word marching band, besides This band is from Louisiana it caters more to its own unique style where a lot of genres of music was born especially in New Orleans that's where this band get its brassy sound!! Do your research this band had been around for decades and have been doing big things and will continue just because "your people" just hearing of them means nothing! The y continue to put others above us but they will NEVER out entertain us! Forget Ohio state garbage band
@sexiyella008 жыл бұрын
sexiyella00 yeah no. The New Orleans sound is brassy but not blasty and terrible. Check out LA stars they sound decent. This band is mediocre at best.

Ohio State would run musical circles around Southern. Stop being ignorant. Be real. But peeps always use the New Orleans excuse as to why HBCU bands (SU and GSU in particular) tend to play loud like this and it's bullshit. It all started when rap music was birthed and became popular music. Before that, every HBCU band used a ton of musicality and only played R&B, ballads, and old school music. Southern was probably the first band to start writing aggressive arrangements and every other band after that copied their "loud" and aggressive style. The problem is a lot of y'all in the HBCU band world judge bands based on power now and how strong the brass section is. There are only a handful of HBCU bands that have both power and good musicianship today.
@mmb-spartan15824 жыл бұрын
MMB-Spartan, all good. I simply appreciate all Marching Bands for being their own unique selves, without generalizing. Diversity is key.

For the people who say the trumpets are blasting, THEYRE SUPPOSED TO BLAST this isn't supposed to be musical this is supposed to be excited and get the crowd pumped up which is what they did. This was incredible
*classical
AGREED. THAT'S WHAT HBCU TRUMPETERS ARE KNOWN FOR. KEEP THAT GOING
@@BLACKKING-zr3ex Umm no it isnt FAMU exist tf
@@dkoda840 HENCE HBCU. DID YOU READ? OR WAS THIRSTY TO COMMENT. WE ALL KNOW FAMU IS GREAT. THEY ALL ARE WE BLACK. THAT'S WHAT WE DO. NO SURPRISE. ITS ROOM FOR ALL
@@BLACKKING-zr3ex I misread your statement, I thought you were saying they are only loud, they are great and in tune but also loud
Rip the lips of every band member in that band...
naaaah, they're used to it, they have strong ass lips
+Andrew Liu And ears....
+A Random Person it's actually not that bad while you're playing tbh
MultiKool13 Oh. Ok.
After a while your lips condition to this style of playing it doesn't take long to strengthen them trust me being a tuba player I'd have real bad looking lips until I mastered cranking
Every last one of them was a shining star on that night! So beautiful to see young people giving their all during this performance. So proud of them!
Love this video. I watch it atleast once a year because of how much i miss being in band.
I'm 15, in the marching band where I'm the minority (I'm black) and I actually cried when I heard this because i feel like I'm missing out on so many things with my own people so that's why I wanna go to an HBCU school and the only motivates me more so thanks
Alysia Porter II know it was 2 years ago you made this statement but I hope you made it to an HBCU?
Me too, I hope u made it to the HBCU u wanted to go too!!
wya fam
Oco ro lol u hating I’m weak
You there yet fam?
Being a trumpet player in my marching band, I am in love with those high notes. I especially love how much everyone really got into the music and just had a good time. Amazing, well done!
dynamic be like ffffffffffff
Nah still too soft
😂😂
😭😂
Tracer From Overwatch ffffffffffffffffffffuckitjustplayyourlipsoff
just fuckin joe not ffffffffff FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFOR DAYYYYYZZZZZZ
When they did the first chorus I got the chills and tears in my eyes
same here
+Katherine P Ok, calm down.
+Greg Denny haha :)
Same
because the Heavenly Gates opened
I feel bad for those woodwinds, they're probably all deaf now.
Seth Hartz what's the point of alto sax and clarinet xd
its jxy To provide a deep, rich tone for the entire band because almost every instrument (except maybe mello and sousaphone) is very very bright, so the saxes and clarinets help balance it out. Every instrument serves a certain purpose otherwise it wouldn't be in the band in the first place.
Jalen Sullivan true because i play clarinet and i feel like it makes trumpets sound better
Jalen Sullivan are clarinet even playing loud all the way or doesn't sound like it
its jxy I'm not sure because the brass section always seem to play really loud. But they should because it's one of the most "softest" instruments. That's why almost every band wants around 13 clarinets in a band.
Anytime you see an HBCU band, expect a wall of sound. This is awesome!
The Dolls are some of the most graceful black women on the planet.
I loved playing football against them just to get to hear the band in person.
Southern’s band is so good it make me wanna cry😭
Great work, but the chorus scared the crap outta me.
😂😂😂😂😂
lmao
+Your Malaysian Spycrab Thats why its called a hit :P
suppose to lol
+Your Malaysian Spycrab It's mostly known as abusing the living shit out of a screamer mouthpiece.
Trumpets almost stole the show from the dancers. Almost. Superb performance. So moody and atmospheric. These bands are moving away from traditions and learning to do everything and anything. Love it.
This shows that SU is more than just volume. They have great technique and good dynamics.
I love hbcu bands, they are so much more fun than a lot of corps style groups (coming from somebody that does corps style)
Exactly why I'm debating on which college to go to this Fall...
Tbh i feel like corps do have better sound but show style is just more entertaining
I lost it during the chorus. Lmao I love it
OMG , who made those mello's angry ??
+Michael Dedrick LOL my exact thoughts
😂😂🔊
😂😂😂
Hell yeah... Somebody pissed the mellow OFF!
+Michael Dedrick Where is that that they got so mad?
That wall of mellophone sound is so amazing
trumpets are just BEAUTIFUL
According to my husband, this is at the Battle of the Bands, so that's why the Dancing Dolls are there. They're part of the routine. He's a SU alum.
No matter what happens, the entrance at 1:22 always puts a smile on my face. so epic.
For the ones that never heard Adell sing her song hello she starts off soft and then she carry the song high SU played it just like she sings it im so proud of them
I love how they captured every piece of the song. The background instrumentals to her breath lol
Those trumpet high notes are awesome.
Finally someone who gives credit when it is due.
+Derrell Sam need to give that trombone player a helping hand @ 0:10 kmsl
It’s 2020 & I’m still watching this 😔🙂
Hearing these big bands reminds me of listening to the big sound of a choir. There are many parts, but they are all in unison with each other. I love it.
THE SOUND, THE PRECISION. GOD IT GIVES ME CHILLS
While I am biased on having a color guard I can't stand people saying these dancers are "strippers"??!! This song is kind of limiting on choreography but these girls are absolutely gorgeous! The one in the front is literally perfection lol she reminds me of Drumline with Nick Cannon
For those saying “ThE tRuMpets aRe So loUd” THIS IS AN HBCU AND THEY DO IT BEST WITH BAND🥴🥴 NO OTHER RACE COULD COMPETE WITH US🥳🥳
Syd Stone why does it always have to about to be race man
Ohio State University, University of Texas do very well. There are more that play loud too.(I’m black)
black supremacy now eh?
Man I love being black by popular demand...and this is exactly why! I'm here in 2020 and this is refreshing to know that Black Excellence will continue forever...them trumpets though!!! 🎺
As much as I liked Adele's voice, I loved those mello's
Black people are so creative bruh !!
I know right!
All are Bro
Ebro Le so is every race dumbass
Ebro Le and also it’s not creative a lot of marching bands have done this
How is this creative?
It’s crazy how everyone is shouting out the trumpet but no one is showing love to the mellos. I see y’all mellophones!!!! 🔥💨
They sound amazing. They have their own style and that's fine. People in this comment section are forgetting that music is to bring people together, not make it about what band or race is better. Smh. I'm sad y'all lost sight of that as musicians.
And this is why they are the #1 band in the country......
Nothing like the SWAC baby. If you grew in the SWAC you love it!!!
The whole entire band sounded absolutely amazing. I'm a 7th grader and I play sousaphone and I thought we were good. This hand is definitely one of the most talented bands around. 11-10. Keep up the hard work.
Honestly this band is apart of the reason I fell in love with music, 1999 Southern Homecoming Parade I was 5 they stopped right in front of where I was standing on the road and did “No Trouble by C Loc” when I tell you it sounded exactly like the radio I had never heard music live before was completely blown away, forever grateful I got to experience that
Dude I’m a trumpet and holy crap when they came in I was so amazed by how good they freaking sound
this brought me to tears. so much passion. so beautiful. much respect to everyone who was a part of this. much love..
Forget Ohio state garbage band
sexiyella00 yeah no. The New Orleans sound is brassy but not blasty and terrible. Check out LA stars they sound decent. This band is mediocre at best.
Will Temp you high asf
Ultimate Pulsar sir listen to the notes
MMB-Spartan, all good. I simply appreciate all Marching Bands for being their own unique selves, without generalizing. Diversity is key.
1:21 I think my ear lost its virginity. the trumpet section ear raped me
Also mellos
Deeder01 upper brass
Implied
This rendition just gave me hope that everything wrong in my life will be alright like goddamn
This is amazing omg , especially the sudden outburst of music when the chorus comes ❤️
The wall of sound when it drops will never get old

Bud Links 2020
It is 2020 and the corona virus dominates the airways, but, as a white person from North Carolina, I must say that this band is extraordinary and this performance is absolutely inspiring and demonstrative of pure excellence.
僕は日本人です、これを聴いていたら鳥肌がヤバイ!!
once again a beautiful arrangement by the jukebox
Still here in 2020, this video is epic... Everytime I watch this it always makes me wanna rejoin the band...
Major props to those trumpet players. Those notes they hit are some I could never imagine to hit myself, very well done!
Some people say they are over blowing I say congratulations on great spirit and power
those mellophones probably trying to get a girl in the audience back cos you can feel what they feeling.

Mellows and Trumpets 🎺 have the best tune. Human Jukebox!!!!!!!!🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺 TRUMPETS!!!!

this is my favorite song by them
This so beautiful and I'm tearing up from how much love you put into this
The sound quality of this video doesn't live up to hearing it being played live. You felt it vibrate through to your bones as It echoed throughout the stadium.
People hate these schools but they are actually one of the best to go to. Keep hypin it up
If You are A Band Family you got to love this video there's no doubt
Those Sousaphone riffs are freaking amazing! Gave me chills along with those mellos!!!
I can remember marching in high school and thinking college bands were so sophisticated. In my mid 30s and they look like babies lol. Good to see the tradition still forging ahead.
Rip Headphone users😂
Bro, I know what you mean, but this is the kind of ear abuse I don't mind at all lmao. If my ears are RIP from this, then I don't mind it one bit.
chimin yang at least its great
Look up Carolina Crown 2017. The video is about 2 minutes 40 long. That is rhe definition of RIP headphone users.

Nick Statham same here
Nick Statham ikr!!!
Yes trumpets we hear you LOL 😜😂😂👏👏👏👏👏👏
great job SU from a fellow SWAC alum (Alcorn)
I rarely listen to these type of performances, as they typically sacrifice tonality for volume,(yes, I understand that is the style...but still) but I must say this was amazing! The hornline was so much in tune for the most part even with the rips. Very nice control! Good Job!
SU great job coming from TSU Tiger and my husband a very proud Southern Alumini
I remember watching this as a sophomore back in high school and this song still makes me get goosebumps
Anyone watching in 2020 I am
Yoowww
yooooooo
Yurrr
