My magnus Opus as it were, in production for over 2,5 years
With the help of Simbaro and Cmaggot on backgrounds
we are proud to present the animation of the song by Ponyphonic
"Lullaby for a Princess".
This animation is based on the background story of Celestia and Luna
as told in the mlp:FiM S1E1 opening. This Project started before the flashback scene in S4E1 where the same story is told.
we tried to stay close to our vision but changed a few items to make our animation fit the cannon more. example: first the crown would fall instead of the ellement of magic.
but we decided to keep the mane pink.

I owe you all some form of update. You all brought me so much kindness. Its only fair I let you on what has been going on with me after lullaby. I got fired. Got a new job. found love. Bought a home. Married and got a beautifull daughter. She is 3 now. ( Time really flies.). I look back at this project with much love. I have tried to start new projects. But the time I have to invest has been very little. I still draw from time to time, to keep my skill up. Perhaps when I find more time I can animate again. But for now my time goes to family, friends and job. Thank you for understanding. I hope the last years have been kind. Greetings WarpOut

I just noticed a detail so very sad after all these years!! At 5:00 it establishes that celestia has a tradition of tucking her sister in using her magic, and when we skip to the present with her outside the window we can see that she still continues to tuck her sister in by setting the moon!! Gosh the detail put into this is stunning

Its been 8 years yet I still teared up at this. This was so nostalgic.
Makes me want to be a part of the fandom again. This is just by far one of the best songs ever made for ponies. I was just letting my light playlist Play. (It's all music. all of it) and this popped up... It's just incredible. I'm 22 now in the Marine corps and I'll still never forget this.

I literally cannot describe the excellence of the fight scene between Celestial and Nightmare. It is SO well animated and intense, and the muffled sound effects booming against the soft, gentle music? Like it’s such a dramatic moment combined with that delicate melody and it’s literally perfect. I get goosebumps every time I see it. I watched the animatic as a kid and waited for the full release and I’ve been coming back to rewatch this masterpiece ever since!
Dane added those sound effects, timed perfectly, to his music track. He did things like flap a bedsheet with a microphone near to create what he thought might add to the fight scene.

You can really feel the weight, messiness and imperfection of the magic in this animation unlike in the show where its clean and perfect every time. The fight scene is just incredibly well done

The idea that using the Elements of Harmony in this way amounted to such a shock of magical and emotional trauma that it tints her mane, in the same way that a serious event can give a person a grey streak, is such a hard hitting notion. I would imagine that generations later, the ponies of the day would probably compliment her on her beautiful pastel rainbow mane, without realizing that Celestia would have probably felt a twinge of guilt and regret and sadness that she would have to smile through, each time.

I like to think MLP's greatest masterpiece is the fandom. For as great as the show was, nothing compares to fan works like this. There is not a comparable moment in the 8 seasons of MLP that makes you cry like this.

The idea that Celestia gets her rainbow mane as a sort of magical scar from using the elements is my absolute favorite headcanon. Celestia being unable to escape the reminder of what she's done every time she looks in a mirror is so tragic and I absolutely love it.

Came back to this after remembering the song, as well as Luna’s reply, and I have to say this: the fans do better with the mythos of this series than the actual show ever did. Seriously, the events that set the entire generation in motion was Luna and Celestia fighting due to the latter being adored over the prior. Yet it’s all written off after the first two episodes and sparsely if ever mentioned in the following seasons. Heck, Celestia is only ever called out for how she ignored her sister’s pain in one episode with Daybreaker, and that still didn’t fully address the problem. Much as this generation brought to the franchise, it should have done more with its ideas. Heck, in the final battle we had a pony child that was evil for evil’s sake, and Sombra, one of the most menacing, serious villains in the series, had a goofy and out of character musical number out of nowhere. TLDR: love the fan projects, not crazy about the show.
This is one of those things where the writers clearly had a story to tell but studio intervention prevented it from going all out 😢
As far as I can remember it was never said that Celestia ignored Luna's pain or was even aware of it, and it likely wasn't even Celestia's FAULT that she was loved more than Luna. Don't get me wrong, canon Celestia is definitely a very weird character and she seems to be selfish, especially during the vacation episode where she was the only one in the wrong but the episode acted like both she and Luna were?? I love the fanonization of Celestia because of what she could have been, but it's still was never shown that Luna's jealousy was at all Celestia's fault, unless I'm misremembering.
@@SkiggsMoDiggs I wouldn’t say the jealousy itself is her fault, but rather celestia was ignorant of how her sister felt. Seeing as the sisters both used the elements of harmony, which is literally powered by friendship, that should mean they would be able to recognize when one is feeling low or is acting out of characters. The comics actually do expand it, saying Luna was possessed by a dark entity that would go on to possess rarity of all ponies, but that still doesn’t fix the issue with her sister. The show and every pony treats the sun maiden like this this infallible leader and paragon, but all she’s does is stand, look imposing, and pass the buck to her protege, who, if I’m honest, has a nasty habit of making things worse before she and her friends fix the problem.

I only ever read one so I don't know a lot about the comic lore at all Also knowing someone well doesn't mean you should automatically be able to tell what they're feeling all the time, if someone doesn't tell you what the problem is then it's not your fault for being unaware of it

@@kimyragreen3549 neither. Eternal Day will literally burn everything and everyone. While Eternal Night will cause cold and basically everyone will be scared because of "monsters in/from the darkness". So, I think Eternal Night is better than Eternal Day.

Well it was a child's show, a story like this would have probably been far too dark. though it is beautifully done, I don't think a children's show could deal with it, not this deep anyways. Look at bojack horseman for example, it talks about deep trauma in a cartoon way but it is very much indeed an adult show.

@@liithivm Yeah they can't go too crazy on the story or the kiddos may think it's boring and for the most part they can't go too dark with the story ethier so they can avoid the wrath of angry parents lol. If the show had a more mature rating I could definitely see there being alot deeper lore and It would be very cool to see as a long term fan who enjoys in depth storytelling.
On the contrary, Avatar was a children’s show and was a masterwork of character development and worldbuilding. It’s just a matter of direction and the showmaker’s intent.

Coming back to this I never realized how dark and depressing Celestia’s past was spending thousands of years alone because she messed up and never realized how her little sister felt, Seems like MLP is not always sunshine and rainbows.....

Something I never noticed before when I watched this, but have now... Celestia doesn't use her magic when the Elements of Harmony protect her. Her horn doesn't ever light up; they act on their own. Celestia didn't banish her sister. The Elements of Harmony did.
So not even the creator of this animation puts the fault on Celestia. Her scar (her coloring mane) isn't a punishment, just a horrifying side effect

I agree, this one has (in my opinion) a much better story because it really dives headfirst into the amount of trauma this would cause. Also, I love the detail of Celesia's mane changing because of the power of the elements.

Plot twist: The similar idea in writers' heads is actually like WrapOut's, but since Hasbro does not allow the writers to use the same ideas as fans', they change to the canon lore we get, seasons later. Even though the very first ep of the series is also the pilot, but Celestia in the book has a pink mane. So I think Lauren Faust did that to imply that when Celestia banished her own sister, she was young

My nostalgia music- who's back from 2024
I was only 12 years old when this came out. I didn’t know how much my life would change in eight years… Nor did I know I would lose my cat, my life companion, who I had since I was five. Now that she’s gone, I see this song in a different light… The signs that her time was coming were there, I just hoped it would be a little longer. It’s been almost a full year, and it still stings. I hope, wherever she is, she’s at peace. And I hope, that no matter how long it takes…when my time comes, I will see my first friend again.

Celestia’s hair changing after she uses the elements is such a good detail. This animation, the singing, the music, everything about this is beautiful and wonderful to me. It helped me for years.
If you were to look at the scene carefully, you notice that celestia's horn doesn't glow when the star starts to glow. Meaning, she isn't using her power at all and it was the star itself. Trying to keep the harmony between the two, sun and moon.

I watched this when I was about 7, and I’m 15 now. I used to cry at the part when Celestia realizes what she’s done and I have still done when I watched it again I haven’t forgotten the words yet and it genuinely makes me feel so nostalgic about everything. MLP was definitely the best part of my childhood, and now Bluey is going to be the best part of the end of it 💗

I think it's a lot of people don't like the show because they find the show "cringe" but while I personally I don't love the fandom. I find the show super fun especially the first few seasons. And some times the people who hate on the TV show in a lot of cases haven't even watched it before.

I never realized how good this was when I was younger but holy shit does this hit harder than the actual show cuz like,,,, I guess it's technically creative freedom because it's not canon and part of the actual show which is for kids. But having a reason for why Luna turned evil, which was due to the older's blindness from her own arrogance and ego. And now Celestia has to deal with the consequences and grief that come with her actions and its just- sooo good

Tbh celestias parents would’ve been long gone by this point. Natural born alicorns are like- immortal, so they kinda grow slow. Given that celestias mother probably earned her spot, she was not a naturally born alicorn, and was therefor not immortal, she was probably dead by this point

I don't have issue with fan-fiction, some of them are impressive.. just some fans are Emo whiners who overly project own sister complex on this show where it wasn't so extreme there (also if we look on it from RoMC sequel theory Luna was most likely originally a Earth pony and ancient unicorns were snobs.. so she have many reasons to be jealous of her sister).

Here's something I realized. When Celestia used her horn at 0:44, everyone was wondering why or maybe she's just using it to set the moon. But as you can see, the moon fully glows yellow (which means Tia is holding it) and stays like that for a while.. She did it to hug the moon, to hug Luna, like to say goodnight, and rose the sun to set the moon.. Such heartwarming..

I still love the way she uses the elements as a last ditch hope and the PAIN in her eyes as she see that her sister isn’t saved, but trapped in the moon. I love the show of absolutely despair in the loss of Luna, instead of the almost indifference in the show.

@@bambi5595 There’s a time limit on the spell in which the pony, Luna/Nightmare Moon in this case, would only be trapped on the moon for a thousand years - in the episode Luna comes back, it’s 1000 years later so she was able to leave (as Nightmare Moon) before she was turned back to Luna by the Mane Six and reunited with Celestia

If you rewatch the scene carefully, you’ll notice that celestia’s horn doesn’t glow, the element of magic acts on its own accord.

man I see this kinds of comments and all of the post about the series finale and I wan't to kill DK, well the Brazilian tem at least, we have been stuck in episode eleven since 10th of august, if I recall correctly the day, but I know it was in august, well fuck, at least we know all the hype is going to be worth it, from all the spoilers we got :| anyways, I still feel the nostalgia from the early days, back when the fandom was called "Eurobeat" lol, all of the amazing music and animations, every work of art this fandom has created, it's now part of my life, and it will be forever. gen 5 is coming tho :) just hope it is not a fiasco

I recently turned 17, and I still stand by the fact that this is an absolute masterpiece. I remember watching this on repeat for hours when it came out. I have also only just realised the head cannon of celestia’s main changing colours once she banished Luna to the moon. It’s a detail I never even noticed, and now approaching adulthood, I now realise the pain and grief Celestia must’ve felt. Truly an incredible animation. Thank you WarpOut for the incredible childhood performance
Back then I cried because of how sad this was. Its so beautiful. Now, I cry because of how nostalgic it is to me, and its beauty never faded.
