Volkanovski said that Cejudo, who is a legend of the sport, needs to beat someone at the top of the featherweight division to be able to fight him. That he needs to EARN it. Crazy then, how Volkanovski doesn't care that he was GIVEN an opportunity to fight for the LW title without proving himself at the top level of lightweight lol. Definitely given lol, atleast by Volkanovskis own standards.

I love Volk’s mindset coming into this fight. The difference between him and everyone else, is that everyone seemed like they were trying to convince themselves… Volk is truly out to prove he’s the best. Judging by his improvements in the the third max fight…. DO NOT SLEEP ON VOLK
Volk really has nothing to lose here. He has been my favorite fighter for a long time, and he’s taking on the biggest possible challenge save going up to 170 and taking on Usman, which would be absurd. I can’t imagine people will lose respect for the man if he loses. I’m skeptical of his chances, but if there’s one guy to do it, it’s him. He always has a brilliant game plan and the skills to match
Real fans know the real and I know Volk won't take a defeat laying down. He will be Islam's biggest test and vice versa but Makachev isn't invincible and I'm sure Volk is taking the necessary preparations. He loses no respect from me if he loses but I don't think he's going to lose.

I had Max on a pedestal thats how good his MMA striking was.. then Volk completely shut him out and i couldn't believe it. Noone within his weight range in the UFC can strike with him, absolutely no one.
It's also a safe gamble longevity wise cause if he loses its almost certainly gonna be by submission so he's all sweet to fight again soon

There's no lose here for Volk. He's moving up in weight to fight a natural 170 pounder with the perfect skillset to beat him. He's at every disadvantage in this fight. At a minimum he can beat expectations and look good against a weight bully. At most he can go into the record books. Makhachev on the other hand is in a no-win situation. He's a natural 170er with the perfect skillset to beat Volk. He needs a total shutout just to meet expectations. Anything less makes him look bad. Realistically, this should end, at the latest, in the second round, with Volk losing a boring fight to a weight bully by submission. If it hits round 3 Makhachev is looking pretty bad. I already think Colby, Burns, and Usman beat him, which is why he fights in the division filled with strikers.
@@truthoverlies6434 I wouldn't say every advantage over Volk. If Volk can carry his speed into lightweight, he's a massive problem, especially paired with the fact his reach is longer than Islam's. He's got great TD defence, submission defence and a good get-ups. Honestly, I would say Volk has _more_ advantages, but Dagestani wrestling/sambo is just such a trump-card in modern MMA...

Max Holloway x3, Holloway has never been KO or TKO by anyone. Brian Ortega - Ortega never been KO, has had TKO (doctor stoppage against Holloway) which also should have been against Volk. Also TKO (shoulder injury) but this was after facing Volk. Jose Aldo - Aldo KO x1 (Conor) TKO x2 (Holloway) before facing Volk. Darren Elkins - never been KO, 2x TKO (1 by injury, other by Mendes) in 18 UFC fights before facing Volk. Volk messed him up pretty bad. Shane Young - never been KO or TKO before facing Volk. 1 KO and 1 TKO since. Mizuto Hirota - had never been KO or TKO in 25 LW fights before facing Volk. Got KOed (first time) in his last fight 3 years ago. The point is Volk has faced many fighters that are hard to KO/TKO, the only one that was suspect at the time was Aldo but Volk did much more clinch work in that fight.

And if Volk stayed at 145lbs beating Yair, Emmett, Allen etc he'd stay at #1, and if Islam beat Dariush, Porier, Gaethje etc he'd stay at #2... but if Islam beats the smaller guy at 4-1 odds (as opposed to someone like Dariush at 2-1 odds) he becomes p4p king? It's a pretty silly system

Makhachev & Khabib have been so successful precisely because they do NOT underestimate their opponents. They are definitely not underestimating Volk
Im not a fan of Islam and Khabibs style but their wrestling and sambo makes other fighters look ordinary. People go in confident and come out saying it was just different - You cant train for their style. Hope im wrong but Islam in 1 is likely.
