The Art of Money Getting - audiobook
P. T. BARNUM (1810 - 1891)
Although Barnum considered himself primarily a showman and his main goal was to put money in his own pocket, this little book, subtitled Golden Rules for Making Money does have a good deal of common sense about how to make money, and perhaps more importantly, how to keep it once you've made it. Of course, having been written nearly a century and a half ago, some of the advice may be a little dated, but it remains a very readable self-help book. (Summary by Ruth Golding)
Genre(s): Self-Help
Language: English (FULL Audiobook)

  • I remember being younger, I got a loan with the intention of getting a buy to let mortgage, in the end I got tempted into getting a car instead. By trying to keep with the Jones’s I foolishly squandered my money on something that depreciated and brought me no return. Worst mistake of my life and set me back for many years. Any youngsters reading this in your early 20’s, make wise investments now and you can be free by the time you’re in your early 40’s.

An emphasis toward sex appeal is a trend that has become too popular. At this time with fear and economic decline due to Covid-19 and the Russian invasion is a serious challenge. I am hoping that all be joining to enrich our soil to grow food and respect the environment. Staying healthy will be the outcome. Unfortunately,too many folk look to escape by doing things that are expensive and harm one. Let’s keep technology in balance and be supportive of each other.

  • This book is almost uncannily what you could call "ahead of it's time." Just listening to a 19th century gentleman extoll the evils of addiction to smoking, drink and drugs is nearly mind-blowing.

    @TupDigital@TupDigital Жыл бұрын
    • Right!? Just for doctors to claim 50-60 years after this book was published (1880) that smoking is healthy and good for your "T-Zones." 🤦🏻‍♂️ There's actually another book called "Outwitting The Devil" where The author, I think it's Napoleon Hill is having a conversation with the devil and the devil explains how he gains many followers to come unknowingly to his side by way of cigarette smoking. It's an amazing book that opens one's eyes to the habits that formulate failure and deters one from success. It's a very clever dialog. You should check it out. • i was you, 9 years ago. Started with one client. Quit my temp job when I had enough income to match the temp job AND when I'd saved enough for one year's expenses. Ran with it. It's working out. My business is in private education. Covid was the best thing that ever happened to my business, when the schools shut down. Now the clients know my name and wont forget it. Keep at it. It will take about 6 years of thankless grind to get off the ground, but once you do...you dont answer to a single boss anymore. I dont concern myself with human resources, co-worker birthday (fattening) cake, being told to stop talking at the water cooler, or killing time before 5pm. It's a little nerve wracking to be captain of your own destiny, but I've gotten used to it. I can say it's not for everyone. My closest friends are rocket scientists (aerospace engineers), attorneys, and surgeons and they definitely work for one boss in exchange for a lot of money, job security, and a pension. I get the same reward, but no boss, less stability and must plan for my own retirement. To each their own. In the end, my circle of friends and I will likely end up in the same (good) place in life, but via different paths. Get up early, or stay up late. Dont turn down work. Give more than you promise and more than they paid for. Never get angry at a person who's paid you money, even if it's justified. Most times, they'll reward you by returning and paying you more than you thought. When they dont, your reputation will help you replace them. Guard your reputation. You must hustle all the time by being your best self (wearing a blazer at a bbq or dress shoes at the mall, being polite and respectful, not vulgar) when you meet strangers. It's tiring. The good news, is that after you practice being your best self for 6 years...you actually BECOME your best self. You get addicted to being a good person. Other good people will gravitate toward you and gift you with their company, or money, or both. With this, comes a freedom and lifestyle rarely experienced by the timid. I believe in you. Keep us posted.

    • @@slchance8839 thank you for posting this. The harder thing for me is still being friends with people that don't wanna push as hard to change from within. We are alchemists, just learning about the power of change that we have within ourselves. The tricky part is if you're an empath and can't see bad in others. That's a volatile combination, but I have passion and paired with rage over previous mistakes I push forward. There is so much power within all of us, just some of us have learned how to use it while others wait for people to come save them. That's some good advice over there about never getting mad with someone that paid you. Even if you are 100% right, just redirect that butthurt ness somewhere else don't keep it within yourself. Learning to cry and laugh simultaneously is another beautiful challenge. Learning to cry or laugh to release tension or reset your fear system is another beautiful thing. Thank you for sharing keep on crushing.

    • @@cod5testaccount what a great thing to say. That made my day. thank you. 1.)Every time someone's paid me money, but did something that got under my skin....it's SOOO easy to myself.... "Well, I'll just take your money and go then. You sure showed me." 2.)I like your alchemist analogy. I especially like what you said about being friends with those less ambitious. Brother, thats MOST of my friends. Do you know how hard it is to find another successful entrepreneur? It's difficult, because they're so busy being successful, you dont meet them just anywhere. I mainly have to bite my tongue when my "conventionally successful" friends offer advice or spell out a game plan involving more servitude. Right now, I've been on vacation for about 3 weeks...because i felt like it. I feel RETIRED.

  • 1) Sound Health First. Without health there is no motivation or ability to create wealth. Drop all bad habits 2) Choose and Pursue Vocation Aligned to your Genius 3) Choose Right Location. This can be your success or your ruin. Don't conduct business where there is alot of others doing the same thing. Choose a location that can use all your talents 4) Avoid Debt. Its a slavish position.Debt robs man of his self respect. The interests is accumulating against you 5) Persevere. Be determined not to let the horrors of life bring your down. If you hesitate a bolder hand will grab your opportunities. Hesitation is your ruin. Perseverance, unwavering determination. Do it with all your might. Fortune favours the brave. Do not Relax. Do all you can then trust Abundance 6) Depend Upon Your Own Personal Exertions Personal application and experience. Learn the details of your business every day. Make mistakes and learn from them Be Cautious and Bold. Never have anything to do with a man or place that never succeeds There is no such thing in life as luck 7) Use the Best Tools. The Brain is Important for Employees I am a thinking and working man Those men with Brains and experience are the most useful 8) Nothing is worth anything without effort. 9) Learn Something Useful 10) Don't Be Too Visionary Don't count your chicken before they hatch Engage in one business until you succeed or have proof you can leave 11) Be Systematic Do your work promptly. One thing at a time. Do your work completely. 12) Read your newspaper to keep informed about the industries and economy 13) Do not endorse without security 14) Advertise your business . We all depend on others to grow our businesses. Make your adverts unique and attractive. Advertise until the world knows who you are!! 15) On Charity: The only true charity is that from the heart. Help those who are willing to help themselves. 16) Say nothing about your true motives or your business secrets. 17) Have uncompromised integrity of character is invaluable. It secures joy and peace that no money can purchase. An honest man is known to return what he returns. This opens your path for opportunities...people are willing to deal with you 18)To get rich doesn't mean to be successful. There are many rich poor men.

Like teaching a drunk he should stop boozing is like telling normies, they can gain wealth… You can do this… it may be your vocation… a passion, find a way to do it safely… Many will try to convince you your wrong. When you show them wealth… they’ll say you got it by inheritance… when you price you earned it… they say your lucky… They will avoid working the deeper works… these people must not be convinced… they must be avoided. Help the help-ABLE. This then is the way. Good fortune, love, luck, light… will then bless you. The help-able… are hard enough to help… but the not help able will attack n drain you. FACTS. Over time, the not help-able may change their minds, and become help ABLE… Stay aware, have fun… teach away.
