  • Guns? Healthcare? The immigration that literally gets brought up EVERYDAY…TikTok is the biggest threat?

    • I agree with you. Our politicians ought to focus on the issues which affect ALL Americans. The point you raise is valid and requires action ASAP! I don't understand why the politicians are permitted to steer Americans' focus from the issues which greatly impact us. When they do this, they continue to earn money for themselves despite tackling the most important situations. All legislators' salaries ought to be suspended until they efficently do the work they for which they were elected to do. The American people deserve better!

    • We can't get national regulation on guns, education, healthcare, medicare, medicaid. The republicans would say this is too much oversight and too big government although their current move to authoritarianism would seem contrary to that argument. The argument of big government is oversimplified because to get the business of government done (especially climate change) we need to look at government differently, understand the scope of the domestic issues we have, be able to bring together geographically distant experts and pool information means we have to think about it differently. The crack that social media is and the influence of misinformation makes the debate and regulation important, but like guns, social media is a big one. And people love dangerous toys.

Congress, who are supposed to be the cream of the crop can't figure out why universal health care is good for everyone, homelessness is bad for people, inflation on food should not be there and now we should treat each other humane in prisons and when being arrested. If that is the case we have the wrong people in office with a terrible moral code. I think we could figure out someone better to give 100K a year to and better use of that money.

Just because you don't like the conversations going in there is not a reason to ban it, Why else don't you like being discussed on there - Gaza, the war on drugs etc? Whoopi actually made really good points about the sale changing nothing in terms of the social media landscape and privacy laws being virtually non-existent in the US based on international norms e.g. the EU.

  • The House on Wednesday passed a bill that would lead to a nationwide ban of the popular video app TikTok if its China-based owner doesn’t sell its stake, as lawmakers acted on concerns that the company’s current ownership structure is a national security threat. The bill, passed by a vote of 352-65, now goes to the Senate, where its prospects are unclear. TikTok, which has more than 170 million American users, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Chinese technology firm ByteDance Ltd. The lawmakers contend that ByteDance is beholden to the Chinese government, which could demand access to the data of TikTok’s consumers in the U.S. whenever it wants. The worry stems from a set of Chinese national security laws that compel organizations to assist with intelligence gathering.

    @cashaeleatemla@cashaeleatemla2 ай бұрын
    • Americans own 52% of Byte Dance. Investor include Walmart and Oracle. Club for Growth is now lobbying for Tic Tok not for love of China but for their own money. The China own thing argument is gone. Now it is the China control argument. In the mean time I can get all your finance info family detail all for a buck. This is about money.
