The big guy who fell down in front of the bathroom door when Gus was inducing himself to throw up is my buddy Steve Eiland. He is the lead singer of a local punk band here in Albuquerque called Beefcake in Chains. So cool to see someone I know in this show!
The irony is, that Gus at the start only wanted to work with Walter and not Jesse, cause he didn't want to trust a drug-addict. But in the end Jesse turned out to be his most valuable asset. Never judge people too quick.
You mentioning that Jesse was one of Gus’ most valuable assets instantly reminded me of the speech/reality check that Stan gave to Homelander in The Boys.
I regularly watch this and the next three episodes on their own like a thriller movie. Salud to Face Off is one of humanity’s greatest achievements. You’re in for a ride.

Jesse's purity was a smidge better than gale, I believe gale was 96.1, so 0.1 percent better. Walt gets 99.1%

It’s in this ep where you realize why Gus never kills Walt or Jesse. He knows what happens in the end when you kill someone’s partner.
Such an incredible episode, it's one of the best in the series! Everything from Jesse's scene in the lab to Gustavo taking out the cartel is fantastic.
I love how you can just SEE the hatred and morbid justice in Gus’s eyes when he watches Don Eladio falls in the pool

One of the bigger extras in the Mexico lab sat next to me on a plane from TX home to Abq. As we got close to home, small talk began. He mentioned he'd been an extra in Breaking Bad. We'd been sitting next to each other for 2 hours. I wish I had had used the time to ask questions!
Both of Walt's conversations with his son this episode are so well done. Amazing acting from both of them

I think it's ok to reveal to you now what I teased long ago back when you finished Season 1. The story goes that Aaron Paul’s character on Breaking Bad was destined to meet a grisly end in the ninth episode of the first season. But the 2007 WGA strike got in the way, cutting off production at seven episodes (six of an intended eight after the pilot). In the intervening time between seasons, Vince Gilligan changed his mind. It's a very similar story to Tom Brady who wouldn't have received his chance if not for fate intervening and the injury to Drew Bledsoe. Aaron Paul wound up with 12 major acting awards for playing Jessie including THREE Best Supporting Actor EMMY award wins.

Giancarlo is the most underrated actor ever. He has worked forever see Maximum Overdrive and Trading Places. He needs to be a bad pirate opposite Jack Sparrow.

The day Jesse turned into a badass
For me it was when he stepped up to Gus to defend the kids his dealers had selling 🔥
Gus is such a hero in this one. But you also remember how ruthless and vengeful he can be. As seen from the start of this season even his own people are not exempt from his cold hearted malice if they cross him. To make it in that world you gotta trade in your heart. Gus lost his lover, Jesse is learning to kill, Walt realizes what he's getting his family into. God knows what Don Eladio has done, but he trusted someone for a moment and it was all gone.
Antidote. Anecdote is a fully different word
Watching you with Walt talking with Junior was really interesting. I'm hyped to see you with Crawl Space. (That and the finale, Face-Off, are 2 of my 4 fave eps.)

The original plot for breaking bad was that jesse was to be killed in the first season tuco was supposed to beat him to death. Causing Walt to want revenge. Which would spark season 2. But they liked him so much that they kept him.
Thank god this idea got scraped, the show wouldnt be nowhere near as great as it is. And this is only one of the strange ideas they had planned. Another example is how Walt was supposed to torture some guy in his basement because he killed Walt Jr. or something like that.

I always thought the pills gus took where activated charcoal (which is what is used to absorb liquid in the stomach of poisoning victims) instead of an antidote.
Giancarlo Esposito is a MASTER of the micro expressions in this show.
He really is great at being subtle especially with facial expressions and keeping a poker face

Yayyy! Jesse is my favorite character too 🥹 I love him so much. It’s his heart more than anything. And he’s the underdog, people pile on and manipulate him and he just is looking for a purpose. His confidence has built and we see it in this episode. He still has attachment issues tho, but at least he’s not on drugs anymore. And Ted is the worst dumbass in the series, and I loved the scenes between Walt and Walter. Jr.
This shit always makes me smile and laugh with excitement cause this is Jesse really just being a badass, he knows his shit and he knows that he knows it aswell!

Right there with ya with Jesse being my fav. But hes been my fav since pilot for sure. He and hank are my favs. Your appreciation for jesse being a boss to the cartel guy is so great! The pool scene is off the chain.....Jesse jumping off the chaise is too funny. You are also on point about the dialogue in this show being the best ever. After you finish the show you need to you tube so many things: theres a few table reads that are great and theres quite a few commentary videos of the writers with Vince Gilligan along with the actors that are in the episode they are commenting on as the episodes are playing. You'll love those.
I think that scene in the lab is my favorite Jesse scene in the whole show! Hes so badass in it!

You and your GF should react to The Crow (1994) starring Brandon Lee, he is Bruce Lee son. Brandon Lee tragically got shot on the set of the movie due to a prop gun with a piece of left over blank bullet residue, the crew thought Brandon was playing joke when scene was over and when he was laying on the floor he wasn’t moving but when they got closer they saw it was serious and rushed Brandon Lee to the hospital, the doctors did everything they could but it was too late Brandon Lee passed away at the age of 28. Some scenes aren’t Brandon it’s his body double Chad Stahelski, Chad is the director of the John Wick franchise. The director of The Crow Alex Proyas had too cut and add new scenes for the movie because of happened to Brandon. They also CGI Brandon Lee face on too Chad face and the makeup artist made a face mask of Brandon face for chad to wear. All scenes were they don’t show Brandon Lee face it’s Chad Brandon was supposed get married to his fiancée Eliza Hutton after The Crow finished filming. After Brandon was supposed to get married Brandon was going to a sign a two-year deal to continue The Crow storyline. The Crow is comic book/graphic novel created by James O'Barr. Before entering the Marines, O'Barr's fiancée Beverly had been killed by a drunk driver. While living in Berlin in 1981, O'Barr began work on his comic The Crow as a means of dealing with his personal tragedy. O'Barr was further inspired by a Detroit newspaper account of the murder of a young couple over a $20 engagement ring. In The Crow, the protagonist, Eric and his fiancée Shelly are murdered by a gang of criminals. Eric then returns from the dead guided by a supernatural crow, to hunt their killers. how come i'm the only one who thinks Mike was going to shoot Jesse right before he got shot, if you watch Mike clearly points it right at Jesse's head, let Jesse take the fall to get Hank off his back. Then Walt would be next or be given up to the DEA
Because that would be entirely counter to everything we know about Mike's character as well as what Gus has planned for both Jesse and Walt, which was already apparent and becomes evident in the very next episode. Oh, and the fact that Mike is clearly not actually aiming at Jesse in the scene in question...
"Jesse is hands down my favourite character"... so how do you feel about Walt? I tell you this show makes you feel 180 about the two main leads from beginning to end. Season 1 I was Team Walt and Jesse was annoying. By the end of this show I hated Walt and Jesse was the main man And I am seeing your emotional turn starting to take place for these characters. I'm just enjoying the ride
