ICE COLD: The Artform of Hip Hop Jewelry

2021 ж. 7 Шіл.
568 882 Рет қаралды

Hip Hop jewelry keeps evolving - and owning custom jewelry is like collecting art. J Balvin talks about his love for ice while seeing a new piece that’s just been created for him. And Migos, A$AP Ferg, and Talib Kweli are on hand to have a larger conversation around how the evolution of hip-hop jewelry is reflective of our larger societal shift towards appreciating non-white art. Episode 4 of Ice Cold.

    • @Open Minded I highly doubt that. They probably gave some rough input and gave notes but I doubt they truly steered the ship so to speak. They likely helped on the sideline and took full credit. They say that in the credits but I’m sure they had a team of people helping. It’s probably out there just because it’s good name recognition. No ones going to know Joe blow but if they see the Migos it’s a different level.

(Bling Bling was 1999) birdman had 2 platinum Rolex on his wrist, (Gucci Mane 07) had Bart Simpson that crazy cartoon piece, and (Busta Rhymes in touch it remix 07) plus (Rick Ross with the piece that had a piece in 09) had some of the best stacked on jewelry. Migos didn't start the trend, they just continued what was going on. Migos was in elementary when others rappers where doing it big! Smh lol*

  • Very well produced series. I truly appreciate how you take a deep dive into the symbolism of jewelry for both hip-hop and Black culture. Moreover, nice job of illustrating the parallels for a love of jewels between black and white culture. It's truly ubiquitous throughout the world, expressed in different ways. Props for adding voices like Kweli and Tribe.

  • There's a sucker born every day and hip-hop jewelry obsessions prove it. People will finally get rich and worry more about what everyone else thinks (especially about what's they wear) Then mindless fans will try to imitate. The cycle of useless consumption and overindulgence never stops feeding.

So we've had like 30 plus years of hip hop being respected.. Sure there was some.. Now i get theres the argument that nwa was suppressed.. But that was for subject matter.. Not cause it was hip hop..
